Around SBN: Miikka Kiprusoff Wins 300th Game, Buffalo Crushes Boston

Who don't you want to see in Game 17?

The Saints will host a team that won a playoff game in the week prior. Which team scares you the most? My pick is Philadelphia. I know we shredded that team to pieces way back in September, but something about that team scares me. Maybe it's the explosive offense, maybe it's the wildcat, maybe it's Michael Vick scoring touchdowns.

I'm curious to see what you guys think though.

(Clearly, Game 17 won't be against Minnesota, so that's not an option here.)

If we get our secondary healthy, I think we fare well with any team.

Arizona offense is pretty potent at times, but they do have some bad games.

Warner and those Arizona WRs can play very well indoors in a track meet, so that could be tough. The Cards defense looks very good tonight as well. Maybe I should rethink my pick…

You're wrong about Minnesota

They could be our opponent. While it is unlikely they will be that opponent, I see them losing at least two (Cincinnati and New York Giants) of the last four games, which would give them four losses. That would make them the third seed behind Arizona, if they only lost one more game, Arizona has the tie breaker with Minnesota. Should the Vikes lose one other game they and the Eagles win out, the Vikes would be the fourth seed and would have to play the Saints, should they win their round one game.

I forgot to point out something

This was Tulane Stadium on natural grass and with that swirling wind coming out of that old tunnel. God I loved that old stadium. You youngsters really missed something. 81,000+ seats, all filled, the stands would rock when we stomped that old wood and steel framed stadium. It was great. We had old wooden bleacher type seats and on sunny days in the upper deck, you could get a sunburn, but man it was so much fun. I miss it. I’m sorry they tore it down.

I miss dropping popcorn box whirly-birds over the top rail, on to neighboring lawns. Heh.

When I played Pop Warner football (for Clay Square in the Irish Channel)

our team would sometime get free passes for a Tulane home game. We sat at the very top of the nose bleed section and would freeze our butts off. There was absolutely NO place to get warm up there. I remember the punters in the pre-game warm up. I couldn’t believe anybody could kick the ball to the altitude we were sitting at!!!

That Pop Warner football was under NORD (New Orleans Recreation Department). Does that still exist? Great memories of all that.

Not sure if NORD still exists or not. I haven’t heard that acronym (nor PARD) used in a long time.

I remember NORD used to sponsor midnight basketball games, to keep project kids off the streets. Seems like it would have been cheaper just to buy them each an Atari.

Arizona

…in a way. Losing to any top-quality team isn’t something to be ashamed of (depending, of course, on how you lose)…but having lost twice to Minnesota and once to Philadelphia already in our lamentably short playoff history, I’d rather not see them show up. (There I go getting all old-Saints again. I keep forgetting this is a chosen team. Nobody’s going to beat us. Bring ’em on!)
