Steelers fan here....

Look I'm not jumping ship on the Steelers, I love them to death. But I have always liked the Saints ever since they made waves a few years ago for the first time (BTW, if you didn't have to play Chicago in near blizzard conditions I think you guys would have won the SB against the Colts) and I have a legitimate man-crush on Drew Brees. He's the only one I would even give a half-seconds consideration to in a (obviously fantasy) trade for Ben.

Star-divide

So I just wanted to finally post on here, since my Steelers are imploding, and introduce myself to everyone. My attention is situated on the Saints for these last couple of weeks, so I'll be hanging around the blog a bit more and posting in the game threads. Seeing as how my dream Super Bowl between our teams is all but delusional to even consider at this point, I think I can safely throw my support behind the Saints now. It's been a blast watching you guys this year, and that stripped ball yesterday IS the best play of this entire year, and I dont think anything will be able to top it.

Lets Go Saints!

Welcome aboard

After that defeat to Oakland yesterday, you must still be hurting. It looked like the Steelers didn’t take them seriously enough and barely lost. I wouldn’t count Mike Tomlin out just yet though. I expect his D is gonna get some serious extra work this week. No way they lose to the Browns. Maybe they’ll find that classic Steelers’ defensive attitude this week and get something rolling through until the end.

Good point, but....

this is the Browns. After this embarrassing loss to the Raiders, the Steelers aren’t about to bring anything less than their A-game to Cleveland. A loss there would be monumental embarrassment.

Troy Polomolu is a beast. I can’t believe the difference that guy makes when he is on the field. Just wanted to throw that out there.

by dmcgoey on Dec 7, 2009 8:32 PM CST reply actions

Polamalu ;)

Ya, it’s a consensus among everyone now that Polamalu makes this defense what it is. You can say what you want about “One person doesn’t make the team” but one player that is on the caliber of Troy can be the difference maker in close games and serves as a linchpin for the whole team.

I am in the Steelers club that is saying one more loss and sit him the rest of the season. Let him come back totally healthy to a team that had a very swift, purposeful, boot in the ass and hopefully we can reclaim some of the dignity we lost this year, next year.

I still remain incredibly optimistic about next years team. Alot of our weaknesses were exploited repeatedly this season and, from experience, I know how the Steelers respond to those types of situations. It says something of the quality of an organization that even after a 4 game losing streak to some of the worst in the NFL, I still have a sliver of hope tucked away that we can get mean and nasty these last 4 and maybe have the winds shift in our direction finally, and barely make it to the wildcard. And if we can do that, I still have faith my dream Super Bowl is a possibility.

Polamalu = Sharper?

Sharper has made the Saints D better since he got here. The secondary still played well when he was hurt a couple games though. I think his leadership rubbed off on some of the other guys. But when Polamalu went out, the Steelers D definitely dropped down. They were my fantasy team defense for a while, but I had to drop them.

That's you on the left!

I’d recognize you anywhere! Welcome aboard. I’m kinda your opposite—Saints fan since the beginning of the team, and Steeler fan since the Bradshaw glory days as he was a good ole Louisiana boy. At least you’re not a bandwagon fan just jumping aboard this year, although there is room for everyone! I think it’s important that fans know about where this team has come from to properly appreciate where they are now. Oh, and remember…don’t whiz on the electric fence!

The Steelers are my AFC team

Hey svenhoek.

I used to have a buddy who was from Pittsburgh. As a result, the Steelers became my AFC team and the Saints became his NFC team. At this point, I’ve lost track with him but I still follow the Steelers and wish them the best other than the rare occasion they play the Saints. I don’t have a clue what’s wrong with them this year. As I recall, Polamalu missed several games last year and while he was missed, the wheels didn’t come off. I fear the problem runs deeper than just his absense. When Tomlin made his “unleash hell in December” vow, I really expected just that. And then they turn around and lose to the Raiders (in Pittsburgh!). The whole Hines Ward fiasco was really weird. It sounded like something you would expect to hear from the Cowboys, but never from the Steelers.

by Drew-Dat on Dec 8, 2009 3:48 AM CST reply actions

The Hines thing was just frustration boiling to the top. It'll happen.

Hines handled it like a class act and made one of the best apologies I’ve heard. There was nothing there for Sundays game.

Troy was healthy, along with 99% of the team, all of last year. The year after XL, he was gone a few games, and we went 8-8. The reason is that LeBeau bases his entire defense around Troy being healthy, so now when he is out, our D is a de-clawed cat. They’ll get you with the back claws from time to time, but their generally harmless.

Sharper is a beast. Around week 3 or 4 I saw how your Defense was playing and told everyone to watch out for the Saints. I had been saying for years, give the Saints just a moderately competent defense, and they go FAR. Now you guys have the beginning of a great defense, and that’s worrisome for the rest of the league.

Its funny, 4 months ago I was saying we would be in your position. 12-0 with homefield locked up.

wow...

Welcome aboard the BandWagon….But really? having two teams? Watching your “Second” team when your number “1” team is losing? Been a Saints fan since 1988 when my pops took me to my first Dome game…I went to high school in San Antonio, a true and true Cowboys fanbase city and never gave up on my Saints no matter how many bad beats we got or losses we had throughout the years, I stayed with them through the Aaron Brooks era…..through the Ditka Era through every good moment and bad in the last 20 years…..Never once did I start watching another team because my Saints were having a bad year…Welcome aboard and good on you for being able to do that, Im just a little to stubborn to watch another team ESPECIALLY when we are having a bad year….that is when we see the true character of our team…..

I was born in Pittsburgh

The Steelers are as close to family as you can get. Its not wrong to have two teams, especially out of conference. Believe me, I would go for my Steelers against you guys in a second, but if we cant have the top prize, I’m more then happy to see it go to you.

Lil joe - I think you missed the point....

svenhoek never said he was jumping on the Saints bandwagon because his “first” team was doing badly. In fact, I think he made a comment about not having given up hope they might still possibly make it to the Super Bowl to face the Saints. I posted above that I had followed the Steelers for a long time and always wished them well except when they were playing the Saints (which generally happens every four years). This has never even slightly deminished my love for the Saints.

I never stopped “watching” the Saints play even in the worst years of the past. But I’ve always enjoyed “watching” other teams play a good game, regardless of if the Saints were 4-8 or 12-0. It’s the difference between a real football fan who has a favorite team and a fan who could care less about the sport unless it involves a game that his team is playing in. Example: I’ll be rooting for UT to win the national title because they happen to be my second favorite college team; not because they’re playing Alabama. But this doesn’t mean I don’t wish they were playing LSU instead – in which case, it would be “Geaux Tigers”.

I have been a fan of the Steelers and Saints for as long as I have watched football since I was 5 in 76. It was great watching Terry Bradshaw and “Mean” Joe Green during the glory days and was a nice relief from all the cursing that went on when my grandparents were watching the Saints ;-). If the Saints and Steelers play I obviously root for the Saints. Before Payton was hired it had been almost 3 years since I watched any NFL game other than the superbowl or playoff games with the Steelers. I don’t think having a 2nd favorite team is odd in any way let’s face it as a Saints fan until recently it was sometimes pretty painful to watch NFL football.

I also want UT to win but only because I want to see Saban and Alabama lose :-D

Clarification -

I did say good on him and all of you that have two teams, but that I just couldn’t do….I love football the sport more than any other sport in the world (Even Beer Pong) and I always have at least 2 sometimes 3 Fantasy football teams, and I love to watch certain players rip up a defense or stuff a run (Ray Lewis, AP, Bruschi when he played) but I never rooted for their team…I apologize if my comments came off as snarky, but I live in San Diego right now and have for the last 9 years (work and money > hometown :( ) and there isn’t a bigger BandWagon city in the US that I have seen. Steelers win a couple of Super Bowls and every other truck on the street has a steelers sticker on the back window, same for the Patriots and Giants and so on. My previous post was more a frustration with people here than it was with you so sorry that came out as pissy as it did, but when I go home it’s all Saints all day and never another team. Thanks for showing some love to the Saints we can use all we can get
