HOW MANY 3rd and 1's
Why do we have so many dam 3rd and 1's. Can they get that CBS/FOX yellow line to go across the field somehow so our players know where they need to get. It absolutely drives me crazy when i see a player fall a foot short on 2nd down because then we have M.Bell and PierreThomas who always fall short. For gods sake how can a runner fall at the one millimeter line of the touchdown, like Mike Bell did in overtime, and what is that "lowering the roof" thing he does, kinda gets old. Even Bush couldnt get that 3rd and, but to his credit he did try to extend the ball and got a bad spot from the ref. MB and PT really need to be more agressive at getting that extra yard at the end of every play. Why didnt SP put in Bush when we were at the 3 yard line, he can fly from the 6yrd line, he is the most athletic player we have and can smell the endzone, we should give to him anytime we are within the 10 yard line, he will find a way in every time, thats his speciality. Brees' arm strength also concern me sometimes, Brees under threw Bush on the first series or else touchdown, and he consistenly under throws D.Henderson. another time RB was open in the middle of the field but the pass got knocked down at the line. I feel bad for Reg, i almost want him to go to another team and be the main guy,and tear it up just to watch his critics eat their words, but then I realize we might be a team he faces, and it hurts my insides. Yes I like the guy, maybe i do have bias for him, I'm not afraid to show my appreciation and admiration of a great athlete. There are far too many people suppressing and bottling up their love because they don't have stats to back up their inherent like for the guy. Who cares, if you know football and play football you can recognize someone who plays like a beast, and for that I am a huge fan. Also people like coldpizza keep attacking your love for him, which gets annoying and unwarranted. They keep throwing stats in your face, when they have probably never lined up against 11 guys who want to kill you. Its like you describing to me how comfy the couch is standing outside the window. Its not about stats, its about what you feel when you see him with the ball and making great plays. This is football, a sport, how serious can you take it, supposed to entertain, and thats exactly what he does for us.. Stand up, Reggie fans, don't be ashamed and don't let bonerkills like coldpizza turn you away... Yes im having a weird moment right now, ho homo.
come one cold pizza, im expecting another one of your patented one liners, reeking of pessimism and depression disguised as intelligence and wit.

I can't think of a coach i football who wouldn't take 3rd and 1
It is so much better then what alot of teams get.And when your trying to run the ball for a balanced offense that mean 4.5 yards on 1st and 2nd down pretty good
Unfortunately, you can't make a flying leap, stretch out the football and "break the plane" of the first down line.
It all depends on where your butt hits the turf!

I think Payton was right in limiting Bush's touches Sunday
The field was definitely NOT conducive to his style – speed, quick cuts, etc. – and our run blocking was TERRIBLE (I see the little swing passes, dump passes and screens as glorified rushing plays). Bush would have at best been ineffective, and at worst, he would have been injured again (mentally and physically) by trying to hard in a futile and fruitless effort during bad conditions…
Lace ’em up again next Sunday vs. the Falconers, Reg!!!
I was glad to hear Payton say that he could have called short-yardage plays better (more quick-hit passes instead of runs later in the game…) given what was unfolding on the field, but on the other hand, I’m gals he didn’t totally abandon the run after one quarter as he’s done in the past…

Jeff Duncan mentions it a bit in his Tuesday Film Study article - Dave posted it as a fanshot - check it out

A two for one!
It’s a piece about 3rd and ones and about Reggie Bush.
I’m pretty sure the last thing you want to do with a player getting over an injury is put him on that kind of pitch in his first game back. Payton tried to give him some BIG TIME plays that could have ended with end zone dances, they just failed to convert. I honestly think Reggie Bush was used in this game to try a few things out that will be seen later. Case in point was the wheel route against the Bears in the Championship game. That was a play that hadn’t been run to that point. I expect to see a few of those in the playoffs.
In essence, there’s a reason he’s been limited, there’s a reason he only gets a few touches, and there’s a reason Bush is content with that. I’m sure it will all make sense at the end of the season.
And get off Coldpizza’s back. He’s just as entitled to dislike Bush as you are to like him, and I’ve never seen him once deny that Bush is an incredible athlete. All of the athletics in the world don’t mean squat if you’re not producing, though. :::Cough::: Kijana Carter

Being there
I was sitting behind the Saints bench on Sunday, with left over snow falling on us from the upper decks. Reggie did rest his knee on the bench at times, but he seemed ready to go. The skins just looked a step faster all day. Or for 59 minutes anyway. Once again, we took a team’s best shot, and found a way to win. Pictures to come.

Actually
Most of the year we’ve had far LESS trouble with 3rd-and-1 than we have in previous years. Considering that they were nearly impossible in 2007 and 2008, I’ll take the improvement.
Now yesterday we were back to horrible. But I think that was a combination of a very good D-Line on their side, horrible field conditions hurting ours, a few bonehead mistakes by our guys, and a bad spot or two to add insult to injury. It wasn’t that we suck as a whole over the entire year.
yeah. maybe we chalk it up to the bad field and bad blocking against a tough front four of the 'Skins

Dallas
remember what Bush did to Dallas a couple years ago… expect a repeat of that performance. Payton calls out Reggie for going out of bounds after getting 9 yards. Because right after that we didn’t convert on the 3rd and 1. So he gets pulled for the rest of the Skins game, except a quick out on the on the last drive. Reggie on grass is a nightmare because of his cut backs, he makes defenders slip more because they aren’t expecting it and are reactionary cuts which are more likely to cause a slip. I know we wont play on grass until the super bowl…. but look for some greatness this playoffs, like the sick play against the Bears.
( i just wanted to bump this topic)
HOW MANY MORE
3rd and ones did we have yesterday. Meechem, Colston, Bell, were all stopped right before the sticks, and its not like they couldnt make it either, Colston going lateral instead of falling forward, Meechem running his route short when the guy gave him ridiculous cushion and Bell falling down again. I am so pissed of with these guys, why don’t they see the first down marker. Its like they are just happy to get yards not first downs. Come on, wake the eff up and get your team a first down, yeah you might have to exert an ounce of more energy, but its worth it. 1st 10 compared to 3rd or 4th and 1. I wanted to pull my already receding hairline out which would upset my propecia persrcibing doctor but would have been worth it for me. We go into the playoffs looking like this, we have lost easy games at home, so WTF does home field advantage give us anyway. They need to go away and get a road victory!
Sidenote: My boy Reggie looked real good and ready for the playoffs tho!!!!!!
