Its not too early-2010 NFL draft
Trade Reggie Bush and the Saints #1 pick to the Raiders for their #1 pick. Then take Ndomakong Suh from Nebraska. When the crowd is chanting a D-linemans name during a game like the Neb fans were doing during the Big 12 Champ game, you know the guy is good. I am a huge Reggie Bush homer, but getting Suh would make the Saints D-line incredible. You know Al Davis drools over Bush and would make this move.

I agree
He is the best college football player in the country and will make a big difference on sunday’s
It’s a shame D linemen dont get heisman trophy’s
The Raiders won't pick first
…and with the year he’s had, Suh might go first overall. Probably not…but what would be the backup plan in case one of the four or five teams picking ahead of us nabs Suh first?
And by the way: if it could happen, it would be brilliant. How in the world do you defend against Suh and Ellis at the same time?
But couldn’t we offer the Raiders Charles Grant first? Al’s so senile there’s no way of knowing what he’d fall for.

To answer my own question...
The first fallback would be Eric Berry. Second…hmmm. Maybe Russell Okung. Or maybe Gerald McCoy.

Well
You set the deal up in advance but dont finalize it till the pick comes around thats how teams handle alot of draft day trades

Al Davis is so senile we could offer him George Bush!
Fat, dumb, and happy. Hell, two out of three ain't bad!

funny but sad
As a bay area saints fan this post has both made me choke on my dinner and sigh at the same time. Well done jnd but wow can’t we really get Suh somehow?
GW's too good for Al Davis

Suh will likely go to Tampa.
I doubt they’d be willing to give us that one. Though I do agree that we should pawn off Grant. Maybe we can trade him for a DE that will wake up in the morning? That’d be great.
Don't say that
Don’t even think it. Go ahead and state publicly that a Super Bowl trophy is a done deal…but don’t jinx us by putting that monster onto the roster of a division rival.

I'm not saying give him to a division rival.
I’m just saying get rid of him.

I cant imagine any team passing on Suh

I can imagine half a dozen. If they think they need a quarterback more, or a left tackle, or if they think Berry grades out better. And they may be right…look at how disappointing Dorsey has been for the Chiefs.

Well
This year has a pretty week Qb class clausen is the cream of the crop and he’s a junior Colt Mccoy seems like a career back up QB
And i watch college footbal pretty regularly and cant think of 1 lineman offense or defense that can dominate a line of scrimmage like suh and i’ve only seen about 4 nebraska games this year and he stands out
I think he can anchor a defensive line for along time
Also there will be alot of players coming out to the pro’s this year because of the un-capped year and the possibility that a rookie cap may be implemented the following year so there will be quality 2nd and 3rd round linemen availible

That’s a good evaluation…but every year, seemingly intelligent NFL personnel men do the wackiest things. Darius Heyward-Bey stands out, for example.

...ah, I see your mistake here...
…it’s in using this statement:
“…seemingly intelligent NFL personnel…”
In reference to ANYTHING to do with Al Davis or the Raiders.

Eric Berry would be my close second to Suh
Berry looks like the next “Hair” Polumalu. Makes plays all over the field.
But knowing Payton...
CJ Spiller or Dez Bryant may be in the Black and Gold next year.
I say we take a look at OLBs
The downside of us being destined to win the Super Bowl is that we will have the 32nd pick, and since we all know that if will happen, lets toss Ndamukong Suh, Eric Berry, Gerald McCoy, and the rest of those top 10 talents out of our minds. They won’t be Saints unless Payton pulls a Ditka.
There aren’t really any top 10 OLBs in this draft, so we can sit back with that 32nd pick and aim for someone like Travis Lewis out of Oklahoma or Sean Witherspoon from Missouri. Outside of those two I can’t really think of any OLBs that would fit a 4-3 scheme. Most this year are the DE/OLB 3-4 type of guys. Draft one of those two early or bank on the Scotts or Stanley Arneaux (who knows what he may be capable of!) to stay healthy next year. Maybe we can pick of somebody in free agency.
"That Brees is a good quarterback." - Giants Free Safety Michael Johnson after a 48-27 Saints victory.
good point
I truly think we need OLB’s more then anything and defensive linemen 2nd worst need
Like i said above i thik we should be able to pick up some Dline help in rounds 2-3-4 because of the large number of underclassmen expected to come out

This thread blows my mind. The difference in trade value between where Oakland will be picking and where the Saints will be picking in the first is roughly the equivalent of the 14th overall pick. If you think Reggie Bush holds that kind of trade value — even to Al Davis — you’re crazier than Al Davis.

Agreed.
As much as getting “value” out of Reggie might be tempting, it won’t get a pick that “matters” that much in the draft, IMO.
It MAY be worth considering a trade for a player with a known value and a couple of lower round picks, say DeMarcus Ware from Dallas, or Hiloti Ngata from Baltimore.

I personally
had a masive errection for Keith Rivers the draft before last. The Saints need a new, dominant linebacker who is explosive, and has a nose for the ball. Fujita is solid, but always hurt of late, and Vilma can’t do it all on his own. One more linebacker, along with a run stuffing nose tackle and/or a solid pash rushing end (don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out Grant) and the Saints should be set defensively for a few years.
X nay on the Bush bashing...
don’t publicly trash the boy and mess with his head untill the seasons over. He has fleeting moments of talent and we may need them…..
