McAllister Cut?

Chris McAlister was cut by the Saints today and replaced by Marcus McCauley formerly of the Minnesota Vikings as a 3rd round draft pick.  Jo Lonn Dunbar was placed on IR ending his season.

Clearly this suprises me because McAlister has been playing ok up to this point.  He had a key turnover last week and is getting his playing legs under him.  I do not understand what the reason for this move was other than maybe he has been getting torched by speedy WR's?

I am not liking this move i must say

Saints released CB Chris McAlister.
McAlister held his own in limited action against the Pats two weeks ago, but he was exploited by Devin Thomas and the Redskins. Jabari Greer (groin) is expected to return this week.

Year Team G Sacks YdsL Int Yds IntTD Solo Ast Total
2007 Vikings 16 0 0 0 0 0 64 10 74
2008 Vikings 10 0 0 0 0 0 6 1 7
2009 Lions 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Loomis and Payton have proven themselves

With all the moves that the team made over the offseason, I think the leadership has earned the right to make the moves they feel are right and we should just ride along

mcalister,why he is gone

our coaches moto this year if you cant help the team, you hurt the team, mac has lost a step and was burned sunday, it is a good thing our coaches think this way, because if we would have had carney kicking sunday iinstead of the kid, we would be 11 and 1 right now, we got did of carneys ass in the nick of time…..

McAlister was burned against the Pats and the Skins. The move doesn’t surprise me whatsoever. Btw, you should never judge CB talent strictly on INT totals, as the best won’t be thrown towards, but even if you were to, McAlister has never had a season of more than six. That’s not saying he WASN’T good in his prime. That’s saying there’s a pretty good chance he was a sheep in wolf clothing on one of the best defensive units in the history of pro football. Face it, if Jason David can collect five picks with the Saints, anyone can do the same with the Ravens front seven getting pressure.

excuse me....

never said a negative thing about the guy! just said I didn’t like the move and gave the stats I also pointed out

of course it doesn’t tell you how long he was with the vikings in 2008 and lions in 2009
. So I don’t get the comment about judging stats! It seems to me whenever I post my thoughts you jump down my throat on it. If you don’t like what I post please don’t comment.

It was a general comment. Why do you feel like it was directed at YOU? Was it in response to YOUR post? I jumped down YOUR throat? Didn’t think so. Put a lid on it, drama queen.

yes he does have that effect on people

as for the gender of person posting it should not even be in question. I am sure I am not the ONLY HER/HIM posting. BTW I am not the only person whose panties you have ruffled and I am sure I won’t be the last either.

If every person automatically assumes I’m responding to their posts when I’m not, I certainly don’t doubt that to be the case. I’m also unclear as to who questioned your gender. Her/him = I don’t know = I don’t care = doesn’t matter. I think we’re in agreement there.

so....

how bout the move? i dont think panties have anything to do with McAlister?

by Saintsfan4life on Dec 8, 2009 10:54 PM CST reply actions

This is a non-issue

McAlister was not doing a great job. Greer is coming back. McCauley is a tall kid with some speed. I think they were just trying a player who has some up side potential. He’s only 26.

GUYS

you are missing the reason:

We just put Dunbar on IR. He was a big special team asset. now that Greer is back we need to make room for a new special team guy. McCauley has plenty ST experience where as McCalister being a veteran would not play ST.

This move makes tons of sense esp if we can get healthy at the CB position before playoffs. ST are a huge part of the game. 1 mistake in the playoffs and we are done.

by touchdown my pants on Dec 9, 2009 3:18 PM CST reply actions

I think you got it TD my P

they do NOT overlook special teams players like some teams do and it seems very obvious now that you have brought this to our attention that Mc Cauley will play ST and just might be a player that GW can work with in the future as a sub, nickel, dime, or even starter in the defensive backfield! The price was probably good also, and I am guessing Mc Alister probably wasn’t really what they were looking for as far as attitude/approach is concerned.

JUst hope Greer AND Porter get healthy soon and Mc Kenzie stays healthy.

Mcalister was showing his age

we need more team speed. Mcalister was a short term solutions. Don’t be surprised if he hangs around and you see him again. There seems to be revolving door with the Saints due to injuries.
