So we got two spots to fill...

Eckel and Jo Lo… I bet one is Anthony Waters

Did he ever play?

I’m not familiar with his name. I think Wendy’s must have made him expendable.

by xen-cuts on Dec 9, 2009 6:06 AM CST reply actions

He played - was picked up after Evans got injured

and while he was not a major contributor, I did like the idea of having at least 1 FB on the roster just in case.
Dave Thomas has done a good job at FB, not really a great job, but if he gets an injury, what then? I think we need a FB of some sort, even if he’s not on the actual 45 man active roster.

i am definitely missing heath evens these days

short yardage running game has NOT been the same without him

I don't really agree with this move

You need a fullback on the roster.

And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.

by Ace Venom on Dec 9, 2009 7:48 AM CST reply actions

Ace, maybe they thought they could find better elsewhere?

Or it could just be to make room for another injury replacement player until the starters heal up, and they’ll bring him back later on.

Hey

Believe it or not Charles Grant played fullback in high school and for awhile in college. I think he’s still tied for most touchdowns in a season in Georgia. How I don’t know, because he’s so damn slow.

by KilnBill on Dec 9, 2009 8:04 AM CST reply actions

I made this same point/suggestion before the season, and was ridiculed. Harsh, undeserved ridicule. Oh, the humanity!

Speaking of Charles: has anyone else noticed how sloppily out of shape he looks? I can’t recall any defensive end whose paunch overhangs his waistband like that. Nose tackles, yes…but ends? When he retires, he’ll be up to 450 in a heartbeat.

Here's what I remember about Eckel
4-2-STL 31 (7:17) 4thQ 36-K.Eckel right tackle to SL 32 for -1 yards (99-L.Ramsey).

He’s no Heath Evans. Hell, he’s no Mike Karney circa 2009. Via con Dios.

Who gonna check me, boo?

And...

Stujo knew Heath Evans. Heath Evans was a friend of Stujo’s. And Mr. Quayle…..uh, I mean Mr. Eckel, you’re no Heath Evans.

Dave, I hope you’re writing all of these down for future t-shirt sales.

It's early to even think this but

I hope this means Heath Evan will be back next year. He’s got a fire in his gut that I love. We are a better football team with Heath in the backfield.

with Dunbar and Fujita out

we are perilously thin at linebacker, especially outside linebacker. Fujita may not be back until playoffs in my view, and Dunbar is on IR. Got to sign someone this week (today) if only to chip in on special teams duties

Lorenzo Neal is still available. Arguably one of the best FBs to ever play in the NFL and he doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring. idea

I think in a limited role, Lorenzo Neal could do the job still

but I am not sure Payton would use a roster spot for a guy just to block on 6 plays a game. But, it might make sense…..
