Saints sign FB Marcus Mailei (who promptly takes Eckel's #36) and LB Anthony Waters
Appears to be a big Mormon-Pacific Islander and Ultimate Fighting fan. Nice combination. Now let's see him hit somebody. BOOM

nfl combine:
Positives: A thumper inside who often puts his target to the ground. Stout build throughout his body. Explodes out of a very low stance, and can get to full power even though he lines up a yard closer to the line than most fullbacks. Also goes in motion before the snap to get outside faster. Stays low, and brings his hips and keeps his legs moving when making contact in the hole. Always finds someone to hit. Sustains blocks through the whistle, if needed. Has a good punch and extends his arms to hold off ends in pass protection or linebackers if blocking past the line of scrimmage. Soft hands in the flat and has some open-field agility. Could handle short-yardage running responsibilities.
Negatives: Shorter than scouts prefer for the position. Lacks great speed and is not a fluid runner. Loses balance because he lunges while blocking in space. Does not have the suddenness or hip flexibility to adjust to fast NFL linebackers and safeties. May struggle to make yards after the catch against quicker defenders because of a lack of elusiveness.
I’d like to see a lunge where he pops somebody’s helmet off.
Who gonna check me, boo?
Looking good
I like this one. If the short yardage game returns to what it was early, the offense is sitting pretty. Now, fix that defense, Lee Harvey.

Chase Daniel
was cut from the practice squad? Ouch. Poor guy. I assume this means Lance Moore is almost all the way back.

Push away from the table and go pack your bags AGAIN, fatass. The “bottomless cup” at WaffleHouse does not include waffles & syrup.

Waters...
…was a victim of the numbers. He bought very well into GW system. I remember that fumble he caused and recovered vs Houston in the pre-season – a one man play. I am glad he is back – guy is a stud
Ubi maior minor cessat
He'll probably only play special teams, unfortunately Troy Evans is the starter now until Fujita comes back, ugh.
I'm with you there.
I liked Waters and was disappointed when he didn’t make the cut. I’m hoping he can do well with this chance.

Also questioned his IQ due to rumored inability to understand Lee Harvey’s offense. Big error. I personally apologize for my own bad comments. Meachem’s the real deal.

Actually...
I was in favor trading Devery prior to the Draft to get a couple picks (if possible).
I have been proven wrong. And I couldn’t be happier. ;)

I am starting to see why resting starters if the Saints clinch home field may be a viable option. If Vilma or Sharper get hurt I think even Carolina would drop 50 on us. No more injuries please.
Ya man, I agree. I think they'll rest Porter until the playoffs, same with Fujita.
I just want home field throughout the playoffs, once we get that, rest the starters. Imagine an injury to Colston or Brees, Sharper or Vilma, or even Ellis? Ugh..
FB-Mailei has size
Eckel was smallish out there, everytime i saw him, he was picking himself off the ground after a play. Sure miss Evans he delivered punishment, and could catch, hope Mailei can at least block, our run game has been a little sluggish.
You think you know, and you don't know, and you never, ever will.-Jim Mora Sr.
It's a setup for the playoffs
Did you see how the Cards chipped on Jared Allen all night and neutralized him? If Mailei can pick up blitzes or DEs to protect Drew’s blind side, it’s worth it. It’s a smart move to set up protection now and school him on the offense for a month before it really counts.
