Uncapped Season

Quote from the front page "But with an uncapped year looming, they won't be able to back-load his contract ".  So I've played enough Madden NFL to understand that you sign a player to a contract that increases exponentially during it's duration in order to have a lower cap number starting out.  At least that's what I think?  So... how does next year being uncapped affect this years signings?

Any and all are welcome to make me feel like a dumbass now!

collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the players' union
The 2008 and 2009 seasons will be played with a salary cap. If there is no new agreement before the 2010 season, that season will be played without a salary cap under rules that also limit the free agency rights of the players. If not extended, the agreement would expire at the end of the 2010 league year.

I don’t understand it either, but if there is no agreement, it appears the Jerry Jones can write checks and buy players without limit in 2010 and not a thought about the future. I can’t believe they’d do that, this league is a real money-maker. What they don’t want is to share it with the players. It’s management vs. labor once again.

read this somewhere the other day

When you get mad about how much money the players are making, think about the owners. They are still making FAR more. Huge money. And if you don’t like it, stop buying jerseys and game tickets and stop watching games on TV.

That’s what I did after the baseball strike in ‘83 or ’84 whenever it was. I missed the Kansas City Royals winning the world series in ’85 after following them closely since 1969. Face value of playoff tickets, field level, just beyond 3rd base were under $10 in 1981 or whenever that was. Did I cut off my nose to spite my face? Sort of, but I haven’t followed baseball since and I don’t miss it, it’s only gotten wor$e. Bud Selig? The whole thing is a joke. I hope the NFL doesn’t allow that to happen to them, but…

Kman....no dumbasses on this site

That’s a very good question you asked. I don’t have an answer, and I’m really glad you asked, because this is a site that has answers or finds answers and then discusses them to construct our knowledge of it. SWEET!

The Detroit Lions are on the clock!

Agreement or Else

All the owners aren’t going to like this, yeah Jerry Jones would , but if Goodell has the last word, they’ll have a cap and an agreement,or a stoppage in play will occur— its the NFL not MLB, and I think there should be a cap in MLB so that guys like Stienbrenner can’t buy all the best players…

No cap = death of small market teams

The resulting financial arms race from some of the deep pocketed owners would be the end of the Saints in New Orleans, Jags in Jacksonville, etc…

Reduced to being peers of Detroit and Kansas City. That’s ugly.

I'm down with G-Dub.
