LaDainian Tomlinson to New Orleans Saints?
The National Football Post has revealed a juicy tidbit of rumor news on their website today.
Sources close to the situation have informed me that the New Orleans Saints are “looking closely” at San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The Saints would have a “high level of interest” if the Chargers were unable to come to terms on a new deal with Tomlinson.
Ummm...I highly doubt it.
Ladies and gentleman of the jury, may I present Exhibit A. These National Football Post guys are also the ones who claimed yesterday that Jon Stinchcomb was "very likely" to sign with the Seahawks. We all know how that one turned out. And if we are to believe one of the commenters of said post than we would also know that reporting innacurate rumors is a common occurence for this website.
You said Jonathan Stinchcomb was close to signing with the Seahawks but his agent Pat Dye says he’s never talked with them. You said T.J Houshmandzadeh was going to resign with the Bengals but he’s in Seattle right now. You said Joe Barry was going to join Jim Mora’s staff last month but it never happened. I’d say your batting average isn’t so good.
Until it is reported that Tomlinson is actually making a trip to the Big Easy, I refuse to believe this blurb is accurate.

Please stay on target here
We don’t need LaDanian Tomlinson. We have the best offense in the league. We need defensive help. We should re-sign our important offensive talent (like Lance Moore) and use maybe one or two lower draft choices for offensive depth, but that’s all. Everything else—draft choices, free agent signings, trades, whatever—should go toward building up the defense.
Oh when the Saints...Start kicking ass...You don't want to be in that number...

All true
First of all, I don’t believe any of this LT to NOLA hearsay. M-E’s right—we don’t necessarily need him. BUT….remember the tendencies of our head coach. He said at the Combine that he is dreaming of getting a power back. He drafted a WR with his 1st round pick in 2007 when we already had needs on defense. He traded away two draft picks in this year’s draft for Shockey, when we didn’t really need another TE. Payton loves to have an armada of potent weapons on offense. That said however, it just doesn’t seem financially possible for the Saints to acquire LT. If Payton were to somehow bring him in and the defense continues to struggle causing the team to miss the playoffs, Sean would be run out of town on a rail by December.
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Nice!! Did you (and M-E, too) get a raise with your promotions, or just titles and extra work?

LT could upgrade our defense...
One thing the Saints have been missing is a time of possession eater in the 4th quarter. If LT could keep our defense off the field more than they were last year, he would help our defense greatly.
