Do the Saints need Larry Johnson???
I was going to post this yesterday, but I feared that the blowback would make me cry. Now I am vindicated, baby!
rotoworld.com:
Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post believes that the Saints "should be all over" Larry Johnson if he becomes available.
Apparently Lombardi isn't a Pierre Thomas believer. New Orleans shouldn't be trying to trade for Johnson, but may show interest if he's released. L.J. has made it clear, however, that he'd prefer to play for an East Coast team.

Larry Johnson says he'd like to play for a team on the East Coast next season, or the Dallas Cowboys. Johnson was born in Maryland. L.J. seems to think he'd be easy to trade, but he is mistaken. His contract is massive and he is in danger of opening 2009 on suspension. L.J. is also 29 and on the downside of his career.

Larry Johnson told 610 Sports in Kansas City Wednesday morning that he wants a "clean break" from the Chiefs. L.J. believes the organization hasn't backed him, and it's ruined his public image. He must not realize there is a new GM in town and KC will have a new coach shortly. Johnson also thinks he was on the trade block at the October deadline, and that the Chiefs "have been trying to trade me ever since I got here." It's pretty clear that L.J. was told he was great too many times by too many people in the mid-2000s. He's lost touch with reality.

Chiefs beat writer Kent Babb believes Larry Johnson's Chiefs future will rest in the hands of the next head coach. LJ has little trade value as an aging, expensive distraction with a questionable attitude, but Babb thinks the new coach could just flat-out release him if the two don't see eye to eye. With no every-down replacement on the roster, though, the Chiefs won't be so eager to let him walk without getting something in return.

A Kansas City municipal judge gave Larry Johnson a March 27 court date to face two charges of simple assault. The trials were originally scheduled for December, but got pushed back. L.J. is accused of spitting a drink in a woman's face at a bar and pushing another in a nightclub. He is in danger of facing league discipline.

NO! NOOOOOO!!!!!
Mike Lombardi has just used up all the journalistic capital ever acquired with that piece of nonsense. To cut a man like Deuce McAllister so we can add a cancer like Larry Johnson? WTF!?
Oh when the Saints...Start kicking ass...You don't want to be in that number...

Agreed
I think it would cost too much for the Saints with their financial resources already strained like they are. I think they should look for a “future of the franchise, diamond in the rough, under the radar, non-Antonio Pittman type” RB with one of their 4th round draft picks. I think LJ’s best days are behind him.
Go Saints!!!!

i am a huge penn state fan
loved lj when he was there, thought he was robbed of the heisman and there is NO WAY the saints want him on the team. when you’re talking about locker room cancers, the man is up there with T.O. Don’t forget the pounding he has taken over the last 5 years or so in KC.
definitely agree with satchmo about trying to find a diamond in the rough somewhere along the line – we need more picks!

I like Mike Bell
I’d like to see him get a chance. There will always be an Antowain Smith/Cedrick Benson on the trash heap in Sep and Oct if he fails.
Larry is a spoiled narcissist. I don’t know Mike Lombardi but he is obviously a moron. I just thought we should discuss it.
Change is GOOD.

No, Lombardi is no moron
He usually has good opinions. Better than that, he usually has good reasons for his opinions. I don’t know where this one came from, but if it puts the idea in Payton’s head to get Larry Johnson I will PERSONALLY send stujo to hurt the man.

Well, I guess he could have predicted Lito Sheppard or Roy L Williams. I’ll settle for knee jerk, ill-considered.
Change is GOOD.

rotoworld.com is the worst source of opinion and information ever
Lombardi has made an impressive transition to NFL insider, with his front office experience lending an interesting viewpoint. He believes the Lions (20th pick) and Vikings (22nd pick) would both have to throw in something extra to get Cassel. If Lombardi is correct, it’s going to be tough for the Pats to pass up that kind of return.

uh oh
rotoworld.com:
Cowboys S Roy Williams vented to a local TV station that he doesn’t feel comfortable in the team’s defensive system.
Williams thinks he’s more fit to play in the 4-3 than a 3-4, says Dallas misses Bill Parcells’ iron fist, and called out his teammates for “talking too much” to the media. Williams also said Terrell Owens is constantly in the middle of controversies. Both players are potential offseason cuts.

Change is GOOD. Except when you have to deal with a bunch of obstructionists.

Hey Guys
First post over here on Canal Street, but I am a lifelong Saints fan, and Resident of Kansas City.
Hell No, the Saints don’t want to sign Larry Johnson when Scott Pioli Cuts him (as most of the local KC media thinks he will). His only good years were under 2 specific circumstances. 1) He had the leagues best offensive line to run behind and 2) HE hadn’t gotten paid yet.
Larry is like that kick ass rock & roll band, who’s debut CD is full of spite for the world & sharp, cutting lyrics. Then, once that CD goes Gold, their follow up release is mostly melodramatic ballads because they are fat & happy & they forgot who they were before, and what made them successful.
He has had numerous run ins with the law, and still has a trial pending when he allegedly spit his drink in a woman’s face on the Plaza. All of his offenses (or accusations) have been for violence towards women.

here's another one for consideration
rotoworld.com:
Texans released RB Ahman Green.
Green averaged 4.0 YPC last season, his best mark since 2004, but he was only healthy enough for 74 carries. There’s no way Houston was going to pay him $5.5 million to return as Steve Slaton’s backup. Green turns 32 in February and will likely have to take a minimum deal to find a new home.

So many provocations, so little time.

I say
The the Saints throw a pile of $$ @ Darren Sproles. Think of the hilarity of having Sproles, Reggie & Lance Moore on the field at the same time. Those three could just run the weave ala 8th grade basketball practice down the field, nobody could tackle ’em!
BOOM! ROASTED!
