In the few hours since the Panthers released cornerback Ken Lucas, I've gotten a lot of questions in the mailbag about him.

SAINTS
It's no secret the Saints are working hard to overhaul their defense. They just signed Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter will be back from injury. But I think the Saints still would like to upgrade over Jason David and there's no guarantee that Mike McKenzie will return to full health. Lucas isn't the player he was a few years ago, but he's smart and could be a nice insurance policy. The Saints don't have a lot of cap room, but I don't think Lucas is going to command big money at this time. Plus, keep this in mind, coming to New Orleans would be a bit of a homecoming for Lucas, who is from Mississippi.
Do we need this guy?

We don't NEED him
I wouldn’t be opposed to signing Lucas, if the Saints had enough money to rent a king cake. Since they don’t, and since they still haven’t gotten that safety situation under control, I’m afraid Kenny is just going to have to go home to Mississippi.
(And no…we don’t need Pat.)

Ken Lucas-DB- Panthers Aug. 1 – 11:12 am et
Panthers CB Ken Lucas’ face was bloodied after a Friday morning fight with WR Steve Smith.
Lucas apparently missed the memo: Chuck Norris wears Steve Smith pajamas to bed. This is the same man who put a beating on teammate Anthony Bright back in 2002, so Lucas should have known better. Smith reconciled with Lucas after the fight, and the two briefly exchanged a hug. We’d be afraid not to select Smith in our fantasy drafts later this summer.
Ken Lucas-DB- Panthers Jan. 11 – 1:02 pm et
The Panthers are expected to part with CB Ken Lucas this offseason.
Richard Marshall didn’t have his best season in 2008, but has been overdue for a promotion to the starting lineup. Lucas’ age (30), price tag ($5.6 million in salary), and tendency to be beaten deep will make him expendable.
