CSC Incredibly Huge Mock Draft Database Updated. Not So Incredibly Huge Anymore.

I meant to update our incredibly huge mock draft database right after the Combine but then the insanity of free agency hit us and it just got left behind for a bit. Things have finally settled down a bit and I just now got around to it.

It turns out that since the Combine a majority but not all of the mock drafts have been updated. The ones that weren't, however, I have taken off the list so our incredibly huge database can now only really be best described as just pretty darn big. Just to go over some of the details here:

  • There were originally 142 original mock drafts.
  • There are now only 92 total mock drafts. This, of course, means that 50 mocks were dropped from our database.
  • All mock drafts had to have been updated after the Combine to be included on the list.
  • 22 mock drafts had the same picks for the Saints as they did when we first examined them. Those are denoted with an *.

Let's take a look at the breakdown shall we?

Star-divide

Player Position College # of Votes % of Votes
Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio State 34 38%
Vontae Davis CB Illinois 31 34%
Brian Cushing OLB USC 7 8%
Chris Wells  RB Ohio State 4 4%
Rey Maualuga  ILB USC 3 3%
James Laurinaitis ILB Ohio State 2 2%
Knowshon Moreno  RB Georgia 2 2%
Aaron Maybin  DE Penn State 2 2%
Everette Brown DE Florida State 1 1%
Clay Matthews LB USC 1 1%
Kevin Ellison SS USC 1 1%
Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma State 1 1%
Tyson Jackson DE LSU 1 1%
Michael Oher OT Mississippi 1 1%

Okay, so this is all really interesting but how does all of this compare to what we saw with our first incredibly huge mock draft database?

Before Now
Total # of Mock Drafts 142 90
Total # of Players Picked 21 14
Most Popular Choice Vontae Davis Malcolm Jenkins
Combined Percentage of Jenkins and Davis 45% 72%
Chance the Saints Draft Pick comes from either Ohio State, Illinois, USC or Wake Forest 86% 91%

The obvious difference is that Malcolm Jenkins is now the most popular choice as the Saints draft pick. But what's also important to note is how much more consistent these mocks have become. The first database had five players make up 79% of the mock drafts. This time around we see nearly the same percentage comprised of only two players, Davis and Jenkins.

Anyway, that's enough analysis. Here is your brand new CSC pretty darn big mock draft database. Enjoy.

I’m from Ottawa, Canada and I would love to see Malcom Jenkins in black & gold :)

Me too Jenkins, not Ottawa. If I was to be Canadian, I’d be more of a Moosejaw SK kind of guy.

I think he’s gone to stay.

jenkins

so we are pretty much in agreement that jenkins is what we need, but what is the chance he is still there when saints pick. do they have anything to move up to get him?

by lockguy on Mar 17, 2009 10:54 AM CDT reply actions

Holy crap. If we traded up to get a cornerback/safety in the first round, he’d better be Ronnie Lott’s clone. That’s a lot of pressure on Jenkins to deliver and probably a lot more $$$$ to sign him. I’m guessing if Denver takes Jenkins then PayLoo go on to Plan B. Whatever that is. Probably pull the trigger on a trade down deal.

Plan A: darren sharper will be our starting FS next season

i’d be willing to bet on that, and i envision us moving into the 2nd round to get william moore as a backup. we don’t even really need to rely on a trade down, since i think they could trade 2010 picks to get back into the 2nd to get our safety. and payton will use the #14 pick to select the best offensive player that falls out of the top 10. i don’t think gregggggg wants an unproven rookie as the “quarterback” of our defensive backfield, and i also don’t think jenkins is going to fall to us.

I'll bet no soda against that scenario

All things considered, this seems most likely. Rec’d it.

Harper scored 26 on the Wonderlic

By contrast, Vilma scored 23. I don’t think Harper would have any problem being the “quarterback” of the secondary, if it came to that.

But what jful says about our first-round strategy fits in very well with what we know about Payton and Loomis. I can’t believe PayLoo would use that first to draft a running back—not with Their Guy still on the roster—or a wide receiver, considering that our two best are a 7th-rounder and a free agent. So Michael Oher or Eben Britton—or maybe even Alex Mack—are strong possibilities.

RE-SIGN LANCE MOORE!
