Paul Spicer-DL- Jaguars Mar. 17 - 8:21 am et
Saints agreed to terms with DE Paul Spicer, according to profootballtalk.com.
Terms aren't available. Spicer, 33, played for new Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in Jacksonville last year. The solid run-stopper will be a backup in New Orleans, but could start while Charles Grant is suspended early in the year.

I guess this means

a new round of cuts coming. The Saints must be close to financially capsizing by now. Gotta cut down some of that top-hamper.

renegotiations

I’d bet they’re reworking contracts (Mike McKenzie, Jason David are prime candidates) but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more vets cut. Like this pick-up, though— to go along with Jeff Charleston and Bobby McCray, we have AWESOME depth at DE (that’s arguably better than our starting lineup).

Nice pickup

Spicer isn’t a spring chicken any more, but he’s a summer rooster when it comes to making quarterbacks fall on a winter day. Or something.

Brian Young out?

Rotoworld is speculating that Brian Young will be released now that Spicer is on board:

The New Orleans Times-Picayune suggests that Paul Spicer’s addition could cost DTs Brian Young or Hollis Thomas a roster spot.
This also indicates that Spicer could be used at defensive tackle. Thomas is New Orleans’ only true two-gap clogger, so he’d seem more safe. Injuries have cost Young 15 games over the last two years and he turns 32 in July.

I really like Brian, but the many injuries have taken their toll on him. Someone’s probably gonna be released soon and it makes sense that it could be Young.

Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
