Around SBN: Diego Sanchez and the Dangers of Fame in MMA

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this yet, but this seems much more likely than all the LT talk.

Never heard of him, but I like the sound of this:
The question of Weaver’s future is an interesting one. For a fullback, he’s very, very fast. In fact, he used to race Shaun Alexander back when he arrived and those races were extremely close.

And his pair of long receptions against San Francisco last season showed that he’s got more giddy-up than you’re traditional fullback, who usually functions more like a sledgehammer than a speedster.

A Speedy Sledgehammer? He might be the ideal powerback, short yardage bulldozer we need.

Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Here's some info

Ht: 6’ 0" Wt: 242 Age: 26
Born: 9/23/1982, Melbourne, FL
College: Carson-Newman
NFL Experience: 5th season
Salary: $1,421,200

At 242 lbs, he’d be a hell of a load. Plus, I don’t see an injury history for him, so he’d probably be able to stay healthy. He could be the “Earth” in our little Saints version of “Earth, Wind, and Fire.”

Karney is listed at 5’ 11" and 255 lbs. But he runs like this “boom boom boom boom”

I'm down with G-Dub.

More like "boom boom"

The first boom is a yard, the second is Karney hitting the turf.

Karney ain’t a great runner: he’s got a 2.0 lifetime average. Last year he was 1.3, people. Weaver was 3 yards a carry better than that.

Oh when the Saints...Start kicking ass...You don't want to be in that number...

Rotoworld seems to think he would remain a FB:
Free agent FB Leonard Weaver is expected to visit the Saints on Monday.
Weaver offers the versatility coach Sean Payton loves and could be a short yardage/third-down option in the Nola. He wouldn’t start over Mike Karney.

We should probably wait until the Times-Pic people report on him before we, but mostly I, let our imaginations run wild over this latest visit. Mike Karney had some injuries last season that kept him out of some games, but I would be surprised if they thought his ability was beginning to slip. I like Mike.

Mike Triplett says:
Mike Triplett, T-P: Hey guys, sorry about the delay. … I’m trying to confirm the Weaver visit, but I’m sure that’s probably an accurate report.

Weaver would add a nice dimension to the Saints’ backfield. He’s primarily a fullback, but he’s more effective as a runner and receiver out of the backfield than Mike Karney. So he could be in kind of a hybrid role.
Mike Triplett, T-P: First, an update on Leonard Weaver — He has not scheduled any trip to New Orleans at this time. They’ve at least made inquiries about him, but nothing sounds serious yet.

Sounds like the report of plans by Weaver to visit NOLA may be a bit premature.

Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Great

get us all excited over an offensive player for once and it turns out to be premature. My understanding of women has just increased.

My understanding of women has just increased.

Even if your understanding of women only increased a small amount, you’d still be more qualified than the rest of us to analyze the lovely members of the fairer sex. I’m still quite clueless. :-)

Even though a visit isn’t exactly confirmed yet, all signs point to it being very possible at least. After reading Weaver’s profile, I see he first played LB in college and was then moved to TE. He came into the league as a TE and the Seahawks made him into a FB. He sounds like he’d be very versatile.

Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
