CSC's Attempt at a Podcast

Okay, here it is. I have been screwing around with programs and such trying to determine the best way to get this done and I think I have finally figured it out. I'll warn you that there really isn't much in the way of content on this clip but go ahead and press play, sit  back, relax and hold onto your seat for the wildest six minutes in Saints podcasting. That last part was a joke by the way. Then let me know how bad it is.

had to google Mick's song, not familiar with that one

I might have used Rip It Up or something, if it had to be the Stones. Other than that, I loved it. Nice effects. Can’t wait to call in and blow up your little show, Dave! I listened twice.

If this is in any way easier than typing cutting and pasting you should do it, absolutely.

Tech note: No plug in available for Firefox, had to switch to IE8 (also known as Slow Fat POS8). (I refuse to use QuickTime, it’s buggy and malware prone, but that wasn’t even an option as a plug-in)

NO voters need to say why. Is Dave’s neutral Long Island accent off-putting?
Does he speak too fast for the average listener to follow? (As opposed to Ralph, who tends to belabor the point, I think)

QuickTime is a jewel

on a Mac. It’s a PC that is buggy and malware-prone.

I’ll bet you a diet water that you’re using a PC.

Diet Water!

Love it.

Back in the early 2000’s, when the “low carb” diet was all the fad, I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw a commercial for “Low Carb” dog food. Combine that with your diet water…

Not bad

I think you are going to have do to it a few times with actual Saints related content to get a feel for whether or not it is something to continue doing. And if not, at least we tried.

My question is how is the content on the podcast going to be different enough from the typed posts to make people click and listen? Is it going to be even more opinionated? Podcast exclusive content?

Stu: there is a Quicktime plug-in for Firefox, mine worked fine with the podcast.

SteveTheFan intentionally provoked me

I HATE QUICKTIME! GAAAA! I wouldn’t load that crap on my machine if they paid me.

I think you mean..."GAAA!" "Idiot child!"

If you know he is intentionally provoking you and you bite anyway, you’d really want to criticize yourself for it afterwards, just like your old boss.

Hate Quicktime on PC's...

…but like ti on Mac.

SB minus just a D above average.

Good point, Steve, about fresh content needed for the podcast to make it appointment listening

Maybe take one of your prepared “posts” for the coming week and read it over the podcast and take calls/discuss it with your co-host. Then the podcast could be posted on CSC in podcast form for folks to listen to (if they missed the live run of it) instead of just reading the usual typed postings.

You could also do live podcasts from your store with customers getting to sit-in for a little back-and-forth as they shop…

Excellent job, Dave.

You have a good voice and good rate of speech for this, and for having not much content, it didn’t seem like you were reaching or filling, or anything like that, and you didn’t stammer too much or repeat yourself. Having an Okie/Kansan like Stu on would make a nice contrast (like Jim Hendersen with Hokie on wwl), or maybe a cajun with a Y’at accent.

And the format of recapping the “week that was” for the Saints/CSC, then talking about what’s coming up on CSC makes good sense to me. Adding listener call-ins to expound or further question would make for a nice little 15-20-30 minute show, I think.

I cringe at hearing the sound of my own voice on tape, so I’d be a bit hesitant to actually call in…but if there was a way to email or IM questions in to the show in real time, I’d definitely do that. And if it ran once a week or every other week, or whatever, I’d also definitely listen to it every time.

How exactly would the co-host deal work? Would said co-host have to be “in studio” with you?

Great work and a fine production, overall. The effects were well-timed, humorous, and didn’t overwhelm your voice at all.

After I click on POST, I’m going to vote for abso-freakin-lutely on your poll.

Well done, little grasshopper.

running gag

Every time someone calls in, Dave has to tell them to “please turn down your radio”.

dang it, Stu - you beat me to it!!

I was thinking the EXACT same thing.

he could also make up some joke "sponsors" to plug during the play-in and play-outs

like a Saints fans “singles” 1-900-chat-line or matchmaking service…

cohost

i liked it. you did a good job and i’d listen into it. i like the idea of adding a cohost, i think it will help things if you’re not just discussing things in 1 POV but 2, sorta like mike and mike just more centered on the saints. call ins would be cool. I think it will be better when the season actually starts or just the draft and training camp also. there will be more to talk about then. also think they will be great for right after the game or the day after the game and for special events such as signings, draft, arrests. I hope we do it more in training camp because there will be more to talk about and you/we can get a feel for how we like it. also, i agree that it needs to be different than just the posts that are on here, like podcast only coverage. last thing, maybe you could do halftime podcasts somehow or at the end of each quarter, like a live reporter. idk if you could be there but i think it’d be cool

Superbowl bound!!!...I hope? Go Saints! :D

Just use it for good

Not evil, like, I dunno, dissing the Falcons. That would be bad.

Dave

Can’t stay away can you?

You would be prank calling with soundboards or call and say Falcons Rule then hang up quick.

by Steve the fan on Mar 29, 2009 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions

You can't get rid of me

I’m like a red-and-black cockroach.

And my accent would unfortunately be a dead giveaway for prank calls. Alas, alack!

I liked it

I would love to right a long “Pat on the Back” paragraph about how eliquient your voice is or how insightful the message was, or whatever, but that sounds, let’s say…….. GirlyMan. Let’s just do the pod cast and ……move on.
