Remember her?

You know it's summer when Da Chronic's weekly Getting to Know You! posts return and mean old Mrs. Frumplesworth makes an appearance. For those of you who are new to the community or didn't join us until after training camp, this was something we did every week during the dog days of the off-season last year and I think it's about that time to start it up again. It's a great way for everyone to get better acquainted with each other and share personal tidbits all while strengthening our community and just having some plain old fun. With a much larger readership now this ought to be much better than last year. The rules are simple: I ask five questions, you answer five questions. This weeks theme will be the 2008 season. And away we go.

  1. How many games did you attend last season?
  2. What was your favorite game last year?
  3. What was your favorite play from last year?
  4. Which players 2008 performance were you most disappointed by?
  5. Which players 2008 performance were you most impressed by?

Who IS that?

1. Attend? I haven’t attended a Saints game in thirty years. How’s that for pathetic? I didn’t even get to WATCH all the games. I get all the Panthers’ games, though. Lucky me.

2. Favorite game? Easy: Green Bay. A good, old-fashioned butt-kicking in prime time in the Dome. It’s nice, every once in a while, to watch an easy win and not have to sweat.

3. Favorite play? Again, easy: though the game was painful, Reggie Bush’s TD punt return against Minnesota where Jo-Lonn Dunbar and Aaron Stecker absolutely jacked up their opponents. Two of the most beautifully executed blocks I’ve ever seen, and on the same play.

Martin Grammatica’s winning kick against the Broncos comes close, though. Oh wait…that didn’t happen. I’ll stick with the punt return, then.

4. Most disappointed? Again, easy: Jeremy Shockey. Constantly injured, as I thought he would be. Not any more effective than Billy Miller when he did play. I opposed the Shockey trade, hoped for the best when it happened anyway, and now I’m in “fool me once” mode. I’ll believe in Shockey when he proves it.

In second place, I suppose, would be Randall Gay. For no particular reason but blind hope, I thought he might help improve our secondary. Maybe he did, which is too scary to think about.

5. Most impressed by? Gosh, a lot of easy questions today: Lance Moore. Absolutely an A+ performance from a former backup, former free agent. Payton is so good at identifying and developing receiver talent, it makes you wonder what the hell is wrong with Robert Meachem. But like I said before: maybe his problem isn’t that he’s no good, but that the Saints are so stacked with talent at WR. That’s why I don’t put Meachem in “most disappointing.”

RE-SIGN LANCE MOORE!!!!

   1. How many games did you attend last season?
one – Saints at Detroit.. was my FIRST ever live Saints game and the crowd was so depressed the Saints fans in the crowd had to sit on their hands to avoid making the natives attack.

   2. What was your favorite game last year?
I cant pick one. I cant pick GB its like the Detroit game it was never in doubt. And thats hard for a Saints fan to accept.. A game we cant lose? So I have a 6 way tie for favorite games.. all the other wins.

   3. What was your favorite play from last year?
Deuce running it in for the record.

   4. Which players 2008 performance were you most disappointed by?
Sean Payton oh you said player. The Powderpuffs then.

   5. Which players 2008 performance were you most impressed by?
Big Sed and Porter, Nicks too.

Let's see

1- I can’t attend games but get to watch it on the web. I just hope we’ll see the Saints as often as last year on nationwide broadcasts like MNF or Thursday nights

2-Minnesota. What a rollercoaster!

3-The pick by Jason David setting up Deuce’s historical touchdown. For once, he was useful….Special mention to Reggie returning the ball without his left shoe even if it probably cost him an injury to the left knee. That’s how hungry I want to see him everytime he gets the ball.

4-I will try not to go with Shockey…Nahh, still Shockey.

5- Devery. Who would have thought?

SB minus just a D above average.

1. No Games… Trying to complete a Masters program leaves little time for road trips to the city.

2. Favorite Game: By far, the Green Bay MNF game… but even though we lost, the last game with Carolina was pretty exciting too.

3. Favorite play is a tie between the Marques Colston catch for a TD in the GB MNF game where he just caught it in stride and the Lance Moore catch for a TD in London vs the Chargers that he caught through two defenders…

http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80cca1f6 <—— Colston Catch

4.. I was most dissapointed by Grant and Smith, especially after the monster contracts they recieved!

5. I would say Lance Moore was the most impressive, but I had a feeling he was going to rip it up this year ( I drafted him on my FF team early on) I would have to say Im mos impressed with Billy Miller. He stepped itup in Shockey’s place.

1. Zero
2. The second game vs. ATL. What a running game we had that day.
3. ummmmmm…..Reggie’s run against tampa where he caught the swing pass out of the backfield and planted hard on his right foot towards the sideline and had the defender just looking at him as he blew him. Y’all hold on, here is a Lil Wayne reference, we don’t get many of those around here (thank God) but this one hits the spot.

Like the wave pool / At Blue Ba-you / And I wave fool / As I blew by you

4. Shockey.
5. Moore, with Hartley making the decision tough

looking forward to 2010

What's up CSC??

Let’s get to it…

I only attended one game last year. That was the Monday Night Football Game versus the Vikings! We lost but man, that game was crazy! I was on the 3rd row on the 40 yardline on the Saints side…When Reggie was returning those punts, the dome was literally shaking.. it was so loud. I live in Florida, but every year I try to get to 1 game in the dome with… and the last 2 years it’s been MNF games. I go to a sports bar to watch every game during the year though…

If we’d one the last game of the season vs Carolina that would have been my favorite, but our secondary… sigh the dudes were hot garbage. So I’ll go with the Green Bay game. Wow, that was the Saints team I expected to see all year.

My favorite play had to be Reggie’s second punt return in that Vikings game, but I’m partial, cause the dude ran right in front of my face… that radio edit (lol) is blazing fast… TV does it no justice..

I’m going to have to go with the DEs specifically Charles Grant… I thought going into the season that we’d have one of the better D-lines in the league… I think Grant may have used that contract money to buy rice rice crispy treats or something because the guy looked overeight and slow to me all year… and he was dominated week in and out by just about every o-line we faced… I wanted to jump through my TV hit him, and dare his slow butt to chase me!

Harper disappointed me too. I thought he was going to progress a little bit more last year..

And David Patten is an honorable mention.

I was impressed by a number of players though. Starting with Lance Moore. Wow. I thought he was getting better every year step by step… but he leaped this year. I really hope we can hold on to him.

Tracy Porter pre-injury impressed me too. i wasn’t sure about using that pick on him, but he proved why I watch games from a sports bar instead of luxury box…

Villma, whoa… they guy was everywhere. He should have made the pro bowl in my opinion.

Alright Let's Get this started

I did not attend any Saints games last year :(

My favorite game from last year was the first game of the season against the Bucs. Seeing Reggie tear it up, was great.

My favorite play was in the Packers game when Brees aired it out to Colston who caught it in stride and took it to the house. So natural…so…so beautiful.

The most disappointing performance of the year was from Robert Meachem. A high YPC, but a low number of catches. He has to get it together.

The most impressive performance was that of Drew Brees. Anytime you throw for 5000+ yards, it’s impressive. No matter what offense you play in.

1. One game attended…@ Detroit. Pics Here

2. I guess beating the Falcons was my favorite game. I just can’t pick a loss as my favorite.

3. I think that stop of L. Johnson by Vilma…I was pumped after that one…

4. Disappointed in Smith and Grant.

5. I honestly expected Drew to be lights out. For most surprised, I’d have to say Lance Moore. Did not see that one coming…

Thanks Deuce!

Who Dat say

1. all 8 home games
2. even though it hurt my soul, i gotta go with the Vikings monday nite game
3. Reggie, Reggie Reggie, 2 punt return & 1 almost if that fleur de lis wouldnt have tripped him up
4. Meachem, Chuckie Grant, and Will Smith
5. Alot of people forgot how Reggie was on fire before he got hurt, Mr. Kardashian impressed me the most

I got to see the Denver, KC and week 17 Carolina games. All tough ones. 2 losses and the Chiefs were terrible, the game shouldn’t have been that close and Campbell’s career ending injury (although we didn’t know it at the time).

Favorite game? I don’t know. Green Bay was good, but soured because we found out later that they weren’t as good as they appeared to be. Minnesota was a good game but we lost.

Favorite play was all the long throws to Meachem and Devery throughout the season, because I yelled the same thing every time: “Holy sh*t he CAUGHT that!!” I know, it’s kind of an entry level fan thing to be impressed by the long ball. But it’s like throwing dice or turning your cards over and you realize you hit the long shot. BOOM! Quite a thrill for me.

Tie: I was most disappointed by Deuce’s performance, I thought he was healthy and essentially benched, although that wasn’t the case. And the secondary. Good God that was terrible, for whatever reason. Hey Gary Gibbs! Good luck in KC!

Have to be most impressed by Brees’ 2008 performance. He made it look easy, like just another day at the office.

Man I miss it

1) I made it to all of the Dome games last year, and I took a trip to Tampa.

2) I would have to say the Green Bay game. I really didn’t see that blow out coming!

3) They had a bunch, but I have to go with Deuces record setter and the way the Dome just went crazy.

4) Considering that I feel as if he single handedly lost at least 3 games. I have to go with Gramatica.

5) Brees was awesome, with that you have to give it up to the receivers! Moore, Colston, Henderson, Miller, REGGIE and Pierre out of the back field!

Just a little something extra. Even though it looks like his helmet sits in his shoulder pads, I feel as if Jason David had a better year. But still not sold on him.

Here we go.

1. I didn’t make it to any games as I’m in NY, but will be there with bells on next time they are up here. I saw as many as my fighting-the-NFL-network cable company would let me.

2. The London game was my favorite…maybe not the best game, but so much fun.

3. I have to say Reggie’s put returns if only because…

4. he follows up moments of brilliance with long periods of tap dancing.

5. Pierre Thomas, who knew?
