Forget Another RB
At the beginning of the off-season, I was all for getting rid of Deuce McAllister because clearly he wasn't the same Deuce and then I watched this. Ever since the rumors of the Saints being interested in a RB in the 1st round began to surface, I started thinking: A shiny, new RB would be just that, shiny, new, and full of expectations.
However, Deuce knows he's getting old and his carries, of course, would be limited, and that's exactly what we need, right? Well I believe so. I am a big fan of Pierre Thomas and I do believe he can and should be the feature back, but this is a copy cat league and if we are looking for the element of "earth" as a part of a cliched trio, then why not Deuce? If someone asked me that question, my answer would be, "Because I know he's going to get hurt again," but doesn't every running back? You're almost guaranteed to get injured as an NFL RB. For the first time in a while, Deuce played a full season and it seemed as though last season was apart of his knee's rehabilitation as he had a very limited role. So this year Deuce can MAYBE show flashes of the old Deuce again and I'm stating this right here and right now: I DON'T WANT ANOTHER RB, I WANT DEUCE.

Boom! Rec'd
Good point. Depending on how his knee rehab goes, plan on re-signing him at a reduced salary before the draft. Besides which…if we really are going to take our shot at the Super Bowl, I’d like Deuce to be there.
But if he balks at the signing offer, and Payton truly feels he needs to take “Earth” in the draft…then we’ll just have to learn to deal with it.

I Have Been Thinking That Too
As long as Deuce and Peyton have the same expectations it could be good. I think the team would really be inspired to work hard so that the old veteran with still some left in the tank can contribute to a team trying to get a ring. And, Deuce catches and blocks well- there is no guarantee that any rookie big bruiser back will catch and block and pick up blitzes well (especially the first season) at the NFL level. But, still there is Bell and Hamilton who Peyton likes so I think it might be unlikely…………..

Boom!
I dropped my coffee (borrowing a joke from M-E).
I would love to see Deuce return. It would be a teary-eyed moment for me, no doubt. He’s the “26” in “satchmo26.” It could happen, depending on how that left knee heals. I once thought that Payton would never want him back because Deuce was a product of the old Haslett regime and it’s widely known that NFL coaches prefer to roll with the players they brought in. But, ever since seeing Payton’s response regarding Deuce in his NFL.com live chat last week, I think there may be a slim chance Deuce could return. His words seemed sincere:
If know one is interested in Deuce, would the team be willing to resign him with a reconstructed deal or the possibility of a position on the coaching staff?
Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints
First off, in regards to Deuce playing, what’s most important now is his rehab on his left knee. In the event that he doesn’t play anymore, I think all of us consider him a Saint for life. If that means doing something else inside the building, that would be a plus for our organization.
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

I'd like to point it out
that Deuce is only 30 years old, that should be the age where a RBs physical ability meets his mental maturity….I also think that Deuce would not enjoy a positional coaching job. I’d hate to have to watch from the sidelines knowing that I am fully capable of playing. Another thing is that just like the Giants, if we have a 3 RB system, we won’t be able to keep all of them long, so why not just keep Deuce? Barring some knee-healing miracle, Deuce won’t play too much longer, so i think he’s the quick fix we need.

Very true
But besides the injuries we all know he’s got some issues outside of football and it may be best for him to sit out a year. He needs to resolve his issues and rehab that knee. Then I would love to have him back. He’s Deuce for christ’s sake.

Great Point
Drafting a RB early in this draft (ie in the first round) would cripple us this year and in years to come.

The only RB I would want drafted this year
Would be Kory Sheets from Purdue. Mainly because he can be a bruiser and can be shifty and it doesn’t help hes probably the best pass catching RB in this draft.

looking forward to 2010

Hes a great runner
but something doesn’t seem right to me about him.

Figured out why I don't like him
He looks to be a one year wonder. As in that was his only year where he was A. Healthy and B. A starter. He would be a downgrade from our current backs

Big Question , Is Duece Trainning ?
Is he working out to try and come back. I would like to see Duece back as well . Bell maybe able to handle the job but he’s going to need more reps . I like PT for times when the play book is wide open. But there are going to be times when you put your big meat package against thier big meat package and see who’s going to gain that 3rd. and 1 or hold thier ground. Hell , I’m tired of speculating. Think I’ll sit back and see what happens at the end of the month.

I wish, but...
I think the idea of Deuce taking a year to get his knee and his other issues in order makes a lot more sense than jumping right back in this year. He’s already said publicly that his financial dealings were interfering with his rehab, so why not slow down and aim for next year?
I’d say it is conceivable that he could come back a better RB than he was last season, but the odds aren’t in his favor. I’m not so sure about SP really wanting him back either, and he has the reigns for now.
Wouldn’t it be sweet though, if he came back in 2010 to a far better team, with a real defense gelling under Gregg Williams, and picked up a ring before hanging up the spikes.

Deuce
He already took a year off (2008 Season, 107 carries). The scope he had after the season was just a cleanup. Sean Payton should have the best knowledge of the situation because I believe Deuce is still rehabbing in the Saints facility.
From a team standpoint, I hope they draft defense regardless. I would love to see Deuce on the field again (even for someone else), but at the very least he could be an insurance policy if PT or Reggie are not getting it done. He already knows the playbook and his role. I would give anything to see 26 run through the tunnel for another season.

well, hello ladog
Hope you enjoy yourself here at CSC. It’s a great place to be to read and discuss all about the Saints. I joined in August, and I have had an excellent experience. I mostly read everything at first, and then I started joining in as I felt moved to do so. Now I post articles, make comments, and visit the site numerous times every day. Welcome!

Wells Smells
There’s new report questioning whether Wells’ foot problem is healed or not. The report says he may still have medical problems with a “sesmoid bone” (I think I spelled that right) in his previously injured foot.

i really don't think
we’re taking wells or moreno. it’s too much of an investment in a role player, and that’s what they get so harshly criticized about because of reggie bush. it’s a popular sentiment, but i can’t possibly see it as anything but predraft posturing. of all the running backs linked to us, i think jennings would be our man, and we might take him as high as early 2nd round. payton and loomis aren’t going to sit around on draft day with their thumbs up their butts—they’re going to wheel and deal and get us a 2nd and a 3rd or two 2nds to get a safety or DT and Jennings.
or maybe they’re going to take wells @ 14 then trade back into the first AND THEN take moreno. HA!

and then we can trade them both to NE for all their 2nd round picks
