CSC Community Mock Draft: The New York Jets Select...

With the seventeenth pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the New York Jets select...
Mark Sanchez, QB, USC
The player the Jets coveted in the first round is available and they didn't even need to trade up for him. Unlike last year's short-term move for Brett Favre, in Sanchez, the Jets get a QB with all the NFL measurables who could lead the team for the next decade. The Jets addressed other needs on defense with the signing of Bart Scott and the trade for Lito Sheppard, and offensive needs take center stage for their early-round picks. The Jets figure they can address WR needs in the second and third rounds, while their RB group led by Thomas Jones is serviceable if not spectacular.
Here's how Matt McGuire of Walterfootball.com profiles Sanchez:
"Strengths: Solid size and adequate bulk ... Impressive statistical production in junior season ... Extremely fluid athlete ... Outstanding mobility ... Great pocket awareness and knows how to step up into and around the pocket to get the ball off ... Has the sixth sense for the pass rush ... Strong arm and can make all the NFL throws, but it isn't elite ... Very solid, consistent accuracy ... Fluid footwork ... Very quick release ... Nice touch on the football ... Throws a sweet deep ball ... Looks like a natural in the pocket and throwing the ball on the run .... Highly intelligent ... Spent four years at USC around a traditional West Coast playbook ... Field general ... Reportedly great work ethic ... Extremely high upside.
Weaknesses: Very inexperienced; only threw 487 pass attempts in his career with only one year of starting experience ... Started out hot, but had inconsistent accuracy during the middle of the season ... Unimpressive as a sophomore ... Needs a little more work on reading defenses ... Could put on a few more pounds of muscle ... Major durability concerns ... Will likely need a year with a clipboard before he is ready to start ... Got arrested for sexual assault as a freshman, but there was no found evidence.
Summary: Talent-wise, I absolutely love Mark Sanchez. I think he has more natural talent than Matthew Stafford. BUT, Stafford has the experience factor and arm strength over Sanchez which will propel him to be the first quarterback taken. Sanchez has it all when you talk about a franchise quarterback, and the work ethic Matt Leinart does not. The team that drafts Sanchez might have to be a little patient. The sexual assault charge does not concern me at all (no evidence, no further problems) and it will not concern GMs."
The Jets current QB depth chart of Kellen Clemens, Erik Ainge, and Brett Ratliff leaves a lot to be desired. Look for Sanchez, despite his relative inexperience of starting only one full season at USC (but an outstanding one with 34 touchdowns and over 3200 passing yards), to be starting by mid-season.
The Denver Broncos are now on the clock...

All you NA voters
Don’t know if you noticed, but Brent Faver retired again. What do you propose the Jets do for a quarterback? Chad Penningtonsworth is gone also. Kellen Clemons? Kellen Winslow? Chet Lemon? Hello?

Ah yes, week 4 vs Jets
The infamous, highly regarded, and reverently respected Sir Lito Sheppard comes to town. We will be dazzled with his efficient, prohibitive, and punitive defensive skills. And I will be forced to admit, as all his fans and fervent admirers have told me so many times, that he is in fact, the sh*t.
Week 4, nah, he’ll probably be on the bench anyway, still smoking from his 3rd degree burns in weeks 1, 2 and 3.
