Mr. DeShazier is an MSM big time
we know that they should be smarter because of personal experience or because of the woes of a teammate or friend, it makes the rest of us all the more aggravated that some of them still just don’t seem to get it.
He managed to get a whole column out of this. Anyone see that SI print article about bad things happening to athletes? Deuce was in it, with his Nissan dealership troubles. Why doesn’t someone do some work and write an article about WHY they get in trouble in spite of all they have and all they have to lose?

I bet I can answer both questions
Why do athletes get in trouble off the field? Because being athletes is all they’ve got the training for, and too many people with 20 mil in the bank think they have all the answers when they actually only have one.
And why doesn’t someone take this on as an in-depth article? Because writing your own insipid opinion is easier, and pays the same amount.

Excellent observation, Stu. DeShazier must be on a per-article payment plan over there.

Sad, sad
Of course I am sad this happened. Sad that a pedestrian died, sad that an NFL athlete drank and drove and killed him. But, I am not surprised. I always thought some things would catch up to Stallworth. After he left the Saints and joined the Eagles, then the Patriots, I followed his career and I always got the sense that he was trying to do the least amount of work to make the most amount of money- he would catch and average of 2 1/2 passes per game, miss 3-4 games a season, and still make 3-4 million. He has so much talent but clearly doesn’t seem interested in living up to his potential. If he was a workaholic he could be almost as good as a Marvin Harrison or a Colston. But, in NE, he wasn’t even their 4th receiver (they had Moss, TE (Watson or Coates??) Wes Welker, and then even Gaffney moved in front of him. With the Eagles, he would be injured with some mild affliction for 3- 4 weeks, catch 3 passes, then the following week, make a spectacular 64 yard play for a touchdown in the first qtr and then take the next 7 qtrs off! There are QBs that they say can’t make certain throw, right..he can’t run certain route!! He is down to about 2 or 3 and still gets millions. No, things caught up to him. he played the system well, made his money- he just screwed up here. Chances are, though, he’ll find a way to wiggle out.
