CSC Community Mock Draft: The New York Giants Select...

This pick and analysis was written by CSC member SirSaint. Thank you for your participation!

With the twenty-ninth pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the New York Giants select...

Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland

Okay, so the New York "Football" Giants got rid of arguably the best wide-out in the league, Plaxico Burress. They are in the process, though, of trying to get Braylon Edwards from Cleveland, which I think could boost the wide-out position for the Giants. But even a guy like Edwards, who is an outstanding all-star, would have somewhat of a hard time filling in the shoes of Plaxico Burress. I contemplated about maybe a DT or an OLB here but it seems to me that they really need a playmaker at wide-out than any other position. I would love to put the versitle beast Connor Barwin from Cincinnati or even Larry English of Nothern Illinois in here, but again the WR position needs to be adressed. They do have adequate young wide-outs like Domenik Hixon and Steve Smith but they need someone that can make big plays now, not in two or three years. I think DHB will adapt quickly to the fast pace of the NFL. And did I mention his blazing speed? 4.3 40-yard dash at the 2009 NFL Combine is a very good time by this young man at WR. In fact he had the best time of anyone at the Combine. I think hes a great fit for the high octane offense of the New York Giants.

The Tennessee Titans are now on the clock...

i think they’re going to make a trade for their WR needs—plus i don’t know how much faith i have in DHB as an NFL-caliber receiver.

i also don’t think there’s a compelling argument to be made that plax was the best wideout in the NFL. definitely on the giants’ roster, but not in the league.

I voted yes; perfect for the Giants

Rotoworld.com:

Heyward-Bey’s 4.3-flat was second fastest forty by a wideout at the Combine since 2000, trailing only Jerome Mathis’ 4.28 in 2005. The Baltimore Sun suggests he secured a spot in the top 15. Still, Heyward-Bey’s routes and game-to-game production were suspect as a Terp. He’s a boom or bust pick.

Sooooo, kind of off topic, but Tony Gonzalez was just dealt to the Falcons.. Does this mean we’re drafting Cushing or Matthews? Or do we stick to selecting Malcom Jenkins?

That's probably not going to happen, but you can send Loomis a fax.
Britt, a highly productive player in college, is projected as a late first-round, early second-round selection.
Negatives: Lanky frame lacking strength in the upper body. Has difficulty sustaining blocks downfield against linebackers and safeties. Will need to learn how to use his hands to get off the line. Displayed very inconsistent hands during his career due to poor concentration and hand strength, leading to body-catching too many passes. Should make more plays on jump balls and down the sideline. Does not have the speed to separate after the catch. Not especially quick off the snap, and hasn’t faced much press coverage due to his size.
