Gonzalez to the Durty Birds!!!
Well it looks like those durty birds have another receiving threat...again from our good friends at Rotoworld:
Falcons acquired TE Tony Gonzalez from the Chiefs in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
KC got its asking price, but not for this year. Gonzo is 33, but coming off a 96-catch, 1,058-yard, 10-touchdown season. He obviously has a lot left, and going to a dome can't hurt. Atlanta relies on the run more the 2008 Chiefs did, though, and while Matt Ryan can only get better Gonzo's numbers will likely dip some. He'll steer some attention away from Roddy White, but could also cut into possession receiver Michael Jenkins' targets.

Just wait Mr. Falconer
Wait until young Mr. Ryan leaves him open across the middle when Gonzo will meet Mr. Vilma…kablam…pow…splat….zoink…
Kudos to the Falcons though…
ugh
i dont like it. another legit tight end in the NFC south is bad news. I dont know of anyone the saints currently have who can cover these guys :/
I've gotta say
I’m curious about what Vilma’s going to do that makes a “zoink” noise. On further reflection, I’m not sure I want to know.
Well that is lack of sleep talking...
I was trying to recall all those various “noises” from a Simpsons episode featuring Radio Active man…“zoink” stood out for some strange reason…although i could be imagining it…
zoink
I think that was Shaggy from a Scooby-Doo episode. Or a very old Batman TV episode
Being a Saints fan will take years off your life
Vilma doesn't make the 'zoink' sound
That’s the sound Gonzalez makes afterward.
“How many fingers am I holding up?”
“Zoink.”
“Tony, what’s your name? Your name?”
“Zoink.”
“He’s gone, coach.”
RE-SIGN LANCE MOORE!
You and your witty conversations
If you had your way, the team doctor would be saying to his wife:
Wife: “What’s the matter, honey?”
Doctor: “Everyone on the Falcons is dead. I couldn’t save them.”
awkward silence
Wife: “Well, that blows.”
Such hostility
One would think you were a Falcons fan.
That’s not Gonzalez dying, by the way…that’s just his cute way of zoning out for the rest of the game. He’ll be fine.
Still haven't thought of a new signature...
that MNF game just got more interesting
Does this impact the draft? I don’t know that Weanie Bells can cover Gonzalez.

2nd that ugh
I don’t like this. Don’t the Falcons, Panthers, and Bucs know that they’re supposed to just lay down for us while we win the division, since we finished in last place last season? Now their adding players like this and trying to make life difficult for us. So far, the Panthers and Bucs have been cooperating by either not making significant moves like this or firing their head coach. I don’t think the Falcons got the memo.
Seriously, I expect the NFC South to once again be a tough division to navigate through for any team. So far, it looks like the Falcons will be our toughest competition for a divisional title. Matt Ryan just got a new weapon. I hope our D is up to the challenge.
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

U took the words
out of my mouth, except for… DOH ! (Homer Simpson) maybe some teams’ D can knock Ryan out ..who their back-up QB?
You think you know, and you don't know, and you never, ever will know..Jim Mora Sr.
Cornerbacks don't cover tight ends
The need for a good, fast strongside linebacker and a strong safety just got a little more extreme.
Could this push the Saints more toward Brian Cushing and away from Malcolm Jenkins?
RE-SIGN LANCE MOORE!
Isn't Cushing's biggest weakness his coverage skills?

Yep
But are they superior to Fujita’s? I don’t know…but I also don’t know what Payton and Loomis think, or if they’re likely to base a choice on trying to stop one man who’s 33. That’s why I posted a question instead of a statement.
Still haven't thought of a new signature...
Gonzalez quote...
He has made a comment that actually made me scowl a bit…via Rotoworld:
Tony Gonzalez, 33, told FOXSports’ Jay Glazer that he plans to play “three or four (more) years.”
“I’m looking forward to making a Super Bowl run in Atlanta every year,” said the 33-year-old. “With Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, Roddy White and now myself, we have the chance to be in the top 5 in the league in offense every year.”
BAH!
I was actually starting to have a good day.. Thinks were falling in place.
I was CATCHING UP and even made a deadline or two.. then…..
my phone buzzes the way it buzzes when its a text from a sports site.
and there goes my high :(

This is big...
But I don’t feel it’s as huge as people like to make it out to be. He’s good but not great (at least on average due to age) just like Ryan and even White. I still prefer Brees, Shockey, and Colston. The falcons need a good defensive draft if they want to really want to make me scared.

Maybe it's blasphamy
But I think Gonzo is a much better TE than Shockey. They paid less for him and got a better reciever AND a better blocker. Sadly, it’s a great move for them.
Last year he had what 1000+ yards, 10+ TDs? That is a stud TE.
Only upside is that he’s old and probably only has 2 or 3 years left.

That's OK
I secretly like the Falcons….when they aren’t playing the Saints and are also several games behind in the divisional race. I was raised to be an Atlanta Braves fan, so I have to reserve some love for the Falcons also.
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Notice I said "some love"
This basically means I like them more than I do the Panthers and Bucs. I once really disliked the Bucs, but then Gruden was fired and I lost my reason for hating them. I promise I am not, nor have I ever been, a spy for our enemy opponents. :-)

Now personally
I disliked the Bucs and that dislike turned to a hate when Garcia came on board…i think Jeff Garcia is the biggest pile of Moose droppings on the planet…whiny little piece of fecal matter…makes me want to spit every time someone mentions his name…
Now i dislike the Raiders…
your just mad
cause when he was with calgary he wooped those blue bombers all over the place
Calgary Stampeders
Garcia was a standout quarterback while attending Gavilan College and San Jose State University. He started his professional career in Calgary with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He won a place on Calgary’s roster as their third string quarterback behind Doug Flutie and Steve Taylor when he threw two fourth quarter touchdowns in his exhibition game appearance in 1994. Soon he was named backup to Doug Flutie. Garcia took over as starter in 1995 when Flutie was sidelined midway through the season with an elbow injury. In his second start filling in for Flutie, Garcia set a team record with 546 passing yards and six touchdown passes in the Labour Day game against Edmonton touching off an eventual quarterback controversy among some fans when Flutie later returned. Flutie ended up starting over Garcia in the Grey Cup that year which the Stampeders lost. After Flutie signed as a free-agent with the Toronto Argonauts in 1996, Garcia took over as the Stampeders’ starting quarterback. During Garcia’s three years as starter, the Stampeders finished with records of 13-5, 10-8, and 12-6.1
In 1997, Garcia won the Jeff Nicklin Memorial Trophy, an award given to the Most Outstanding Player in the CFL Western Division. Garcia led the Stampeders to the Western Final in 1996 and to the Western Semi-Final in 1997. In 1998, he led the team to a Grey Cup victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and was named Grey Cup MVP. Garcia’s performance included an 80-yard, game-ending drive to set up the game winning field goal on the last play of the game.2 Garcia was also named as the 1998 CFL All-Star at quarterback.

Not mad at all...
But good research…full props to your googling ability :D
I just cant stand him…performance aside…he is such a whiny little piece of crap…
How he managed to convince his wife (a playboy playmate) that he “wasnt a douchebag and that she should actually marry him” is beyond me…i am thinking a nice string of roofie coladas…
Roofie coladas?
It’s easier to just buy a dart gun. You don’t even have to talk to them.
here drink some of this kool-aid don't worry it won't hurt you...
Touche
I could see Garcia being that lazy…and whining about having to put the drugs in her drinks…little whiny b**ch
What in the world is wrong with his hands?
Nerve damage due to his bizarre throwing motion?
here drink some of this kool-aid don't worry it won't hurt you...
If you saw 300
Then you know the Spartans inspected all of the children to see if they are worthy…his hands clearly show the mark of the “douchebag”…
Cleaning tips???
Anybody know how to get spit (heavily laden with contempt and disgust) off of a 24" Dell flat screen monitor???
A reflection
Since reading about our newest contributor and the controversy that has arisen from his writing…i will take a moment to apologize if i have offended anyone with my comments about my dislike about Garcia…since BAA and GAAH seem to be taken…i will keep my loathing comments to a simple YARGH (trademark approved)…plus i like the piratey feel to it…
I'll fess up
My wife’s a Falcons fan, and I live here in Atl, so I too follow them a bit. I go to the Saints/Falcons game every year, and of course wear the Black and Gold. Until last year there were as many Saints fans at the game as Falcons fans it seemed.
I haven’t developed NFC South hate yet. Now the RAMS on the other hand. I still hate those bastards!!! And we haven’t been in the same division in what 5-6 years?
by saintsdevotee on Apr 23, 2009 9:28 PM CDT up reply actions
Haven’t liked the Rams since they traded Roman Gabriel. Except for the Vermeil years. And I still think they stole the Saints’ color scheme.
