Carolina: Delhomme worth $42.5 mil?
I think the Panthers front office needs some serious drug testing!!! Reading the comments to this story it appears their fans think so too.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers signed Jake Delhomme to a five-year, $42.5 million extension on Thursday that keeps their quarterback under contract through the 2014 season.
The extension comes just over three months after the 34-year-old Delhomme had the worst game of his career, throwing five interceptions and losing a fumble in Carolina's 33-13 loss to Arizona in the NFC divisional playoffs.
But coach John Fox and general manager Marty Hurney had expressed strong support in the offseason for Delhomme, who has been the Panthers' starter since 2003.

BOOM rec'd it!!!
:) <<<< That’s me!
Suck it, Panters (sic)!!
rotoworld.com:
His agent says the deal contains $20 million guaranteed, but Delhomme will be in his 40s by 2014 and it’s probably for cap relief more than anything. Delhomme’s cap number was roughly $11M and Carolina has had to cut bit players just to stay under. Delhomme has proven himself a winner for the most part, but isn’t getting any better.Carolina needs to start thinking about a future QB. Without a first-round pick, though, that’s unlikely in this draft.
HA! That’s the truth.

foxsports.com comments:
For Sale: All my Panthers memoribilia from their inaugural season to Today. Because Today, Is the last straw. I thought for the past 3 years maybe Carolina would open their eyes and see Jake is just not that good. I thought Maybe, Just maybe, They would fire Fox for Not firing Jake and replace them both with a Real QB, and HC. Now, I see the Real Idiots, are in the Owners box. So, Instead of pulling for 2 teams cause i am a Carolinian, It’s back to just the Steelers, A REAL football dynasty.
Oh GAAA! I was with you until the Steelers part. Actually, you lost me at Carolinian.

All that did was give them an excuse to cut him in three years….you heard it hear first….he’ll cost too much and the third rounder they draft to replace him “later down the road” turns out to be good. “Hey if we are going to be losing with mental mistakes, it might as well be the young guy.” I can already hear it.
looking forward to 2010

I like it
the more you pay for a mediocre QB, the less you have for the rest of the lineup. Plus it will breed discontent when teamates having great seasons making 1/8 of Delhomme’s salary will be pissed when he has a journeyman season.

Delhome?
I know what Carolina was thinking and that’s saving cap money now but Delhome is on the decline. He got the best of that deal!! Go Jake!
