With the 118th Pick in the 2009 NFL Draft the New Orleans Saints Select ILB Stanley Arnoux
The New Orleans Saints stuck with their Wake Forest theme in Round 4 of the NFL Draft by selecting the Hatian Sensation, ILB Stanley Arnoux. What a perfect name to play for the Saints, huh?
Here is all the necessary linkage to get yourself acquainted with Mr. Arnoux:
New Orleans Saints official website Bio File
Positives: Short, squat frame to handle taking on and discarding blocks. ... Plays with good overall physicality. ... Reliable tackler between the hashes. ... Flashes some pop as a hitter and can close in close quarters. ... Better in coverage than his measureables indicate. ... Gets surprising depth on his drops and reads the quarterback's eyes. ... Team leader who made the Dean's list.
Negatives: Shorter than scouts would like and a bit round in the middle. ... Lacks the instincts and quick first step preferred at the "Mike" 'backer position. ... Takes a moment to recognize the action and is slow to flow toward the ball. ... Lacks the straight-line speed to beat backs to the flanks and is a liability in coverage. ... Lacks the lateral agility to consistently get around blockers in tight quarters, thus relying on his pop to disengage. ... Needs an open lane to close when rushing the quarterback.
Strengths:
Excellent timed speed...Physical...Active with a great motor...Very tough...Can take on blockers...Intense and competitive...Nice special teams potential...Durable...Experienced...Hard worker...Team leader.
Weaknesses:
Average athleticism...Does not have the ideal size or bulk that you look for...Isn't very instinctive...Hips aren't fluid and struggles in coverage...Has trouble in space...Isn't real stout...Misses some tackles.
Notes:
Last name is pronounced "are-NEW"...Was a four-year starter for the Demon Deacons...Played outside linebacker early on in his career then replaced Jon Abbate in the middle in 2007...Was overshadowed by Aaron Curry but really made a name for himself with an impressive performance at the Scouting Combine...Doesn't play up to his workout numbers but possesses top intangibles...Won't be a good fit for every team...Could compete for a roster spot as a backup and special teamer.

Wait and See Pick....
Is exactly what he is. He’ll make the roster b/c he’s a great special teams player, but don’t let that highlight reel fool you, he’s not good in coverage. I think moving him to one of the OLB spots would be a good idea on the Saints though. He’d probably would get a few situational snaps, and maybe with the right guidance could improve enough to get in the regular defensive rotation.

Here is what Payton
says about him
Fellow fourth-round pick Stanley Arnoux will start out at weakside linebacker in New Orleans, with the versatility to move inside if necessary.
Pretty god article addressing today’s picks so far.

You guys have got to read this
http://blog.nola.com/saintsbeat/2009/04/wake_forest_coach_jim_grobe_di.html
Grobe raved about new Saints linebacker Stanley Arnoux, who played inside in college but projects as a weakside linebacker with the Saints. He said in several games last year, Arnoux was “every bit as good, if not better than Aaron Curry.”
Grobe said the two athletes have a lot in common. He pointed out that they ran the two fastest 40-yard dash times of all linebackers at the NFL scouting combine (Curry 4.56 seconds and Arnoux 4.61 seconds).
He said Curry’s a little smaller and faster, and Arnoux is a little more physical. He said Arnoux trimmed down to run fast in predraft workouts, but he played at around 240-245 pounds in college.
“He plays very physical and he’s the most dependable guy in the world,” Grobe said of Arnoux, saying he always played through any bumps and bruises.
I have gone from “huh?” to “WOW!” since this pick was made. Our defense is going to be awesome.
Bah!

How did we get a 5th round pick?!?!
We must’ve given up a pick from next year’s draft, no?

I assume so
And if we picked in the 5th, we must have given up at least a 4th. For a kicking specialist. He’d better be awesome.

OK, I don’t get it. You guys were whining like kids over how Morgan is two bad plays from grandma rocking on the front porch and how shanle is the worst player in the NFL and so then we pick a player who looks in many ways to be almost as good as curry and we don’t even have a single person truly raving about the pick yet?
Well I’ll get the ball rolling. When I saw this pick roll off I didn’t have a clue who this guy was, but I was still delighted to see a LB picked. I think Morgan is going to be a huge help for us this year until he (inevitably) ends up on IR, but until that time this guy is going to be learning from the best and getting ready to take over, plus he can probably play ILB in a pinch in the “oh crap” situation that Vilma goes down. (Obviously any Saints fan with an ounce of sense is praying that doesn’t happen, but being prepared anyway is always wise.)
I’m not exactly “delighted” by the punter pick of course, but I’m willing to wait and see on that one… for that matter any pick is always a wait and see to some degree… but at the moment I consider Arnoux to be one of their better moves this whole offseason.

the video called
dude the “forgotten man.” I can’t front I don’t watch a lot of college ball but I don’t remember WF being a football powerhouse school that we would take two cats from there. Especially the “forgotten man.” Somebody tell me I’m tripping and this was a good pick for us.

not sold .. based on those 2 clips
he didnt cross the line once.
Most of those picks looked to be bad throws.
That looked alot like a Gibbs Defense out there

Man you are grouchy today MT
PayLoo did not take an RB in the draft. That should’ve loosened up your bowels a little bit, right? I don’t know if this kid is any good, but it’ll be good to have him in camp. Some competition, keep the vets from getting complacent.
