A new contributing writer????
Can you give us a hint? Pretty please with sugar on it? Do we know him/her? Is he/she a member?
The suspense is killing me!!!
Malcolm Jenkins is gonna make Dave Waymer look like Lito Sheppard.
Thanks for the thought, but...
my free time is so limited that regularly contributing well-thought-out posts doesn’t seem possible at this time. I usually only post when I have free time at my office computer during work hours. Shhhh, don’t tell my employer. :-)
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

the bar is set pretty high
Saintsational and M-E both do a fine job of putting words together. But a third contributor is welcome.
Restore the wetlands!
Here's a hint
When HansDat referred to “him/her” he was onto something.
here drink some of this kool-aid don't worry it won't hurt you...
so it's something that has a gender
I’ll write that down in my detective’s notebook…

a hermaphrodite with something to say
No wonder it gets its own announcement post.
Restore the wetlands!
I thought I knew who it was
I thought it would be Nolachick from “chicks in the huddle”. After M.E. said “has mass takes up space”, that threw me off.
I am the Stig
i'll guess...
that it’s satch or maybe stujo is acting like he doesn’t know b/c it’s really him?
I’d welcome a 3rd person. 3 perspectives is better than one. have the overly opptimistic person, the middle-type person, and the pestimistic person
Superbowl bound!!!...I hope? Go Saints! :D
I can be pessimistic
But I can’t write worth a crap. I can only copy other writers’ work. And paste.
Restore the wetlands!
I know - it's Caffiend
aka Jeff Duncan…doing some moonlighting
Malcolm Jenkins is gonna make Dave Waymer look like Lito Sheppard.
It's Erin!
Since you have your hands full with this blog and are probably lacking time for domestic choirs I guess she’ll fanpost, once in a while, something about not forgetting the garbage, taking the dog for a walk or her folks coming over for the week-end.
SB minus just a D above average.
I didn't see how I could be wrong
But a ghost has no mass and occupies no space. Whatever…welcome back, Hap. What’s the morning line on a Saints Super Bowl?
here drink some of this kool-aid don't worry it won't hurt you...
Stu juked him!
Wait, that could make a great sequal to Geroges Orwell “1984” book. I’d call it “404, this page never existed”.

THAAAAANKKKK YOOOOOUUUU
Dave is the man. Let’s enjoy our Saints again. It’s like old times.

cross? where
The fleur-de-lis is a stylized design of either an iris or a lily that is now used decoratively as well as symbolically, or it may be “at one and the same time, political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic, and symbolic”,1 especially in heraldry.
While the fleur-de-lis has appeared on countless European coats of arms and flags over the centuries, it is particularly associated with the French monarchy in a historical context, and continues to appear in the arms of the king of Spain and the grand duke of Luxembourg, members of the House of Bourbon.
It is an enduring symbol of France that appears on French postage stamps, though it has never been adopted officially by any of the French republics. In North America, the fleur-de-lis is often associated with areas formerly settled by France, such as Quebec and Louisiana, and with French-speaking people in other Canadian provinces.
It is also the emblem of the city of Florence, and of the Swiss municipality of Schlieren.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the flag of Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1992 to 1998 contained six fleurs-de-lis and is used as a national symbol of Bosniaks.
In the United Kingdom, a fleur-de-lis has appeared in the official arms of the Norroy King of Arms for hundreds of years.
The Welsh poet Hedd Wyn used Fleur de Lys as his pen name when he won his chair at the National Eisteddfod of Wales (Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru), the national poetry contest.
Fleurs-de-lis appear on military insignia and the logos of many different organizations, and, during the 20th century, the symbol was adopted by various Scouting organizations worldwide for their badges. Architects and designers may use it alone or as a repeated motif in a wide range of contexts, from ironwork to bookbinding, especially where a French context is being implied. As a religious symbol, it may represent the Trinity, or be an iconographic attribute of the archangel Gabriel, notably in representations of the Annunciation.2 In such contexts, the fleur-de-lis is associated with the Virgin Mary.
The symbol is also often used on a compass rose to mark the north direction, a tradition started by Flavio Gioja, a Neapolitan mariner of the fourteenth centur

Nice!
What an history lesson. But I must correct something. Fleur de Lys isn’t a symbol of french-speaking person in Canada. It’s my official province flag (french speaking Quebec baby!) and the only one allowed in my house:

French around Canada don’t have a flag. Heck, they don’t even have recognition!!!!
Religion and politics on the same day. Let’s never do that again.

See, we can provoke each other, in a civilized way and still be friends. Thanks for the lesson. I didn’t mean to put you through all the trouble of research. But I read that in some European communities, the fluer de lis means Holy Spirit.
That’s all I have to say about that.

What did I miss?
I get home from work and pull out da chronic and see that a post has been pulled because apparently the poster referenced a cat raping punter. I need an explanation.
I’m not sure pulling it was the wisest move, Saintsational. Not that I liked it. I didn’t. But the internet really is forever. The caches at Google are still there, and they aren’t going anywhere. The Internet Wayback Machine probably won’t have it for awhile (6 months or so) but eventually it will likely be available there. Etc.
Religion and PG-ratings and whatever else aside, this is really the #1 reason to be careful with what you post. It’s hard advice to follow… few if any manage to do so all the time. No matter what you do, this site will forever be associated with the phrase cat raping punter. Even if you delete this comment and every other comment that references it.
My initial reaction was based on the idea that the kind of bilge we saw was going to be a common feature on the site. When I realized that wasn’t likely I backed off a bit, and when you asked for compromise I tried to give it. And I’d be willing to stick to that. I think many others would too. Some wouldn’t, and for both their sake and the sake of kids (or parents of small kids) who want to be able to view this site I would say it’s better that the profanity (at the very least) and especially the crude sexual references be kept to a bare minimum or even zero. But I wouldn’t say he can’t post. As I said before the comment become unavailable, passionate arguments are not a problem, and indeed if you don’t hold your opinions passionately you are not a true fan but merely a dabbler. I would, however recommend that if he does post it’s easy to know at a glance it’s his writing so those who do not wish to read it can avoid it.
But the post itself shouldn’t have been yanked. Neutered, maybe. I would have renamed it and cut out all the original text but replaced it with something else to explain it. Like maybe “This post was a test to see how our users would react to a new poster’s style. It did not go over well at all, so the post has been deleted.”
But trying to pretend it didn’t happen isn’t a good idea. Sorry, but it’s just not.
CSC needs a Devil's advocate
I think the offending post was over the top, and too much for a football fan site. While I was in no way offended, I have no problem with removing it from the site since it was offensive to the reader base.
But I liked the thought of having a Saint’s fan who was focused on what needs to be fixed and what the organization has done wrong. Too often the tone of the articles is overly optimistic. For example grading the graders. Strory summery: The Saints did awesome and analysts who don’t see that are morons.
As a fan site objectivity is lost. And that’s fine. We are all fans here, we will have baised opinions. But we need a pessimistic voice. Someone who thinks Shockey is extremely overrated, and that we’d have been much better off with our 2nd round pick this year.
I hope when looking for an additional writer that we try this vein again, and do not get discouraged by our first try.
Yeah, I think you have a good point here, although I think your “short summary” is rather badly overstating things. And ignoring (completely) the rankings that had something to do with the other teams mentioned, like the Raiders and Lions… You’re part right in that it was a typical fan post, though, and a devil’s advocate poster probably would be a good pickup.
But on the other hand, I will also say this is not an easy thing to do. It’s hard to do all of the following: care enough about something to write about it… be honest enough to point out flaws despite your love for the target… be self-controlled enough to avoid expletive-laden vitriolic rant… be emotional enough to spark a reaction but logical enough to avoid being dismissed as a two-year-old flying off the handle into a temper tantrum… etc… Oh and also have time to produce a steady stream of items…
And Diogenes thought he had trouble finding an honest man? This paragon of virtue, talent, and more might be harder yet to find.

Your quotes.

Which is it?
Offend half the people, and lose them forever? The other half couldn’t care either way. At the end of the day, you have a site with only the half that doesn’t care.
Is it worth, losing half your readers, have the site blocked by concerned parents, and have CSC drug through the mud all over the web so one blogger can spew filth?
Keep the Faith ! ! !
missed my point
I don’t need, nor want for that matter, an article that is designed for shock value. I don’t need cursing. I don’t want players personally trashed through no fault of their own. I most certainly don’t want a thread that uses rape for comedic value.
I do want someone to post that trading a pick from next year for a kick-off specialist was a poor use of resources. I want someone to say that based on what we’ve seen trading our second for Shockey was a horrible mistake. I want someone who assess the off-season and is concerned that Atlanta has put together a better team than us.
I want to N.O. to win a super bowl badly. Not for me, but for the players I have come to care about. It looks like it’s too late for Deuce and Mike Karney, but there are still other deserving Saints. Unfortunately, saying we are going to doesn’t necessarily make it so. The decisions that are made in the front office play a huge part, and they are not always positive. Calls on the field make an impact; and sometimes, for all his offensive genius, Payton makes bad calls. I want a fellow fan to go after these things.
Is a counter opinion that unwelcome? I don’t think so. I think the problem was the offensive language/tone. My appeal was for someone else to be willing to disent, but do it with more class.

Alright, Big and Easy, enough already
Is it worth, losing half your readers, have the site blocked by concerned parents, and have CSC drug through the mud all over the web so one blogger can spew filth?
Man, you seem awful sure of your powers of persuasion.
You talk about this being “just your opinion”, and come with the above quote at the same time?
To ask you your own question, which is it?
Let me make this clear, I found the Cat Raping Punter post diverting. I don’t think it was an excellent piece of analysis, and I don’t think it was meant to be. It amused me, and it made me think. I personally have no problem with curse words; swearing is part and parcel of the English language, although I can understand why the offending words were ****’d out.
I don’t appreciate having my ability to read or not read someone’s opinions being curtailed by the fact that someone else can’t handle the way in which those opinions are being expressed.
Saintsational, I understand entirely what you did and why you had to do it. My complaint is not towards you. Unlike some people, I don’t intend to walk away when things aren’t going my way.
ooh
It’s hard to hear a defense for a counter opinion when the wounds are this fresh. You may disagree but hear my point about “hate fans”. When I go to a game, high school, college, pro, baseball, soccer, football or pingpong for that matter, I go to release stress and enjoy my passion. I work hard and have lots of pressure on me everyday. When I go to a game, which is my hobby, I get there early and leave late. I enjoy being there because I know that one day I might not be able to go. Things change, life is short. Whether my team wins or loses, I enjoy being there. If I sit next to a “fate fan” that yells at the team that he is there to support, questions every call like he a better coach than the professionals, and leaves when we are behind at the half, I get up and find an open seat far away from that person so I can enjoy my hobby. I’ve been a Saints fan since about 1975 and I will be Saints fan far after the “hate fan” has moved on to hocky or deer hunting. With that same thought, I’m not coming to CSC if I’ve got to sit next to the “hate fan”. It just ruins it for me. It take all the fun out of the thing that I love. That’s just my opinion.
Keep the Faith ! ! !
now that...
I understand and accept your position on this Big and Easy.
I in fact agree that it is not the right thing for the main board here at CSC.
But in that big stadium, do you think there might be a spot for every fan?
Or should those that are ever inch the fan you are, been fans for just as long and maybe longer, bleed black and gold after a lose but are filled with more …irateness.. not go to the game at all so as not to upset you?
Sorry.. its the lawyer I never became asking this.
Sorry.. its the lawyer I never became asking this.

MT
You know I would never ask a fan to be like me. That’s why I would change seats. I wouldn’t sit there and lecture him about the proper way to support his team, that’s his business. I would just go to get a hotdog and return to a better spot. That’s all I’m saying. I don’t let others dictate how I experience the game I’m watching. That is the way civilized society works. We associate with like kind. We all choose, not to have the same exact opinion about everything, but the same spirit about the subject we are speaking. All I’m saying is, it would be a shame to loss what we have here in the name of ruffling feathers. You know I love this team and have began to love the site. I am willing to stand up for things I believe in.
