Status of Deuce & Comment on Rookie Salaries
What's the scoop on Deuce? Is any team looking at him? The last thing I heard about him was that his Toyota Dealership in New Orleans was in financial trouble. With the cut and no salary, I'm a little concerned about a player that has done so much for the city and the fans. You would think the league would reward stand-up players like this with a little loyalty, but the business side of this profession has gotten pretty nasty. I really think that the outrageous salaries for rookies need to come down significantly and some type of tenure raise (of sorts) should be given to vets that have been upstanding in the league. Of course, if something like this were implemented there would need to be a cap and a cutoff after so many years.

Deuce
I have been wondering the same thing. Sorry, but it is hard to let go, especially when I saw flashes of the “old Deuce” last season.
I was in N.O. a couple of weeks ago and when I drove past the dome, there was still a giant poster of Deuce hanging on the side of the dome. Is it still there? Maybe they know something we don’t.

I love Deuce too, but
I don’t think we have to worry about him. He made a lot of money and should be set for life. The car dealership looks like it was a setback, but I would doubt if Deuce is going to be homeless. Even without football pads on, he can make a lot of money as an analyst, club rep, etc etc. I don’t think the NFL has to be in the business of taking care of players or ex-players (especially stars) such as Deuce.

That would make some sense… waiting on the results.
I’d like him to come back too, but I figure that’s not likely unless he comes back as a coach.
Still I’d like him to get a ring by any legal means necessary, and coaches do get them…

Oh and as for rookie salaries, I don’t think the total amount is the problem. It’s only about 4% of the entire salary cap and you’re drafting 4 to 10 players a year, which is potentially 6 to 16 percent of your 60-man roster. The problem with rook pay is that the first rounders get a ton and the 7th rounders get a pittance. If you’re going to be playing on a fixed sized pool the expected top talent really should get more, but not THAT much more.

a ton....
for what?
nada.. they have shown NADA.
Give all rookies the same amount or grade it by draft round.. but make it less then the amount your stars get.
