CSC A-V Club: 1978 Saints - "I Believe"
NFL Films used to produce, back in the day, annual season highlights films for all NFL teams to be broadcast in the local TV markets. They were just long enough to fit in 30 minute slots with commercials.
wikipedia:
NFL Films is famous for producing an annual highlight film for each team every season. If a team had a good year the film often revels in each victory, while breezing through, or skipping altogether, losses during the season. Inversely, if a team suffered through a poor season, the highlights commonly attempt to still show the team in a good light, however difficult that may be. Losses and pitiful play is commonly, and conveniently, edited out, leaving only isolated moments of success, prompting the viewer to not always realize how bad the team might have actually been. Most films conclude by portraying teams optimistically for the upcoming season, whether founded or not.
You can order these on DVD-R here FOR ABOUT $55 postage paid.
I have the 1978 season called "I Believe", because it was Archie Manning's best season statistically (yes, they went 7-9). Two crushing last minute losses to Atlanta in weeks 11 and 13, one set up by a BS interference call.
It is illegal to make copies and distribute them, with penalties up to 5 years in Leavenworth and $250,000 in fines. Did I mention that it is a DVD-R? Of course there is nothing wrong with me putting it in the DVD player when you guys come over to the house and we'd all enjoy it together. But that's not going to happen.
It's a fun 24 minute program with lots of game action and Archie in his white practice pants and Archie talking about his rehab. Mostly game action with cheezy Muzak disco music playing over the top. It is illegal to make copies of this program. Did I mention it's on a DVD-R?
If you'd like to discuss how illegal it is to make copies of this program, send me an email at stujo4@aol.com. M-E and MT, it wouldn't hurt you both to take a ride down memory lane and soften your stance against the only quarterback whose name and number are on a banner hanging in the Superdome (as of today). If I am not making myself clear about how much opposed I am to making illegal copies of this program, be sure to email me at stujo4@aol.com. It's on a DVD-R. Sure would be easy for a bad person to make copies and sell them on the street. Think of the huge market of consumers who can't wait to get the Saints' 1978 season highlights. You could make millions if you were a bad person. If I am not making myself clear just how bad that person would be, email me at stujo4@aol.com. I don't know how much more clearly I can state it.

I bought a VHS copy of the one they made following the 2000 season, "Rebirth on the Bayou"
And I think every year, they still make “NFL Yearbook” videos on each team and broadcast them on NFL Network near the end of training camp or during preseason…

I'm not quite getting it
So, you’re saying a person would have to be the scum of the earth if they made copies of this DVD-R? In this day and age, how could anyone even consider doing such a thing. :-)
So, you paid $55 for a 24 minute DVD? $55 for one season? $55?? WOW!
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

yeah, scum of the earth
I really wanted to see some Archie highlights. No lowlights, as the wiki thing said.

I once paid a similar price for a video
So, who am I to judge. I paid $50 for a VHS of rare performance video of a guitarist I was really into at the time. And, that was early 1990’s dollars. The video quality was horrible. Live and learn, I guess.
Even if I could lower my sense of morality far enough to actually do the despicable deed of copying a copyrighted DVD, I’m not sure I have the capability to do it. I think my computer can, but I’ve never tried because that would just be wrong. People who do that are almost as bad as those who record all the games by a particular team throughout a season so they can watch them again during the offseason. Those people justify it by saying, “Hey, I paid almost $300 for NFL Sunday Ticket, so I should be able to record and watch these games whenever I feel like it!” Those people make me sick.
On a totally different note, I just rewatched the Saints/49ers game from last season and really liked what I saw from Deuce and Tracy Porter that day. :-)

Live and learn.
I kick myself every Sunday for NOT recording the games, so I could re-watch them during the off-season. How great would an ice cold beer and a Saints game be right about now?!

Has the heartburn faded yet?
I watched that re-air yesterday too. I had forgotten that that was the game in which we lost Tracy Porter for the year. You could tell something was very wrong with his wrist the second he got up and walked to the sideline. I’m very eager to see him this season. He WILL be awesome!
So much happened in that game. Drew almost gets injured on a sack and fumble, Grammatica misses another game-winner, the refs blow it for us on a missed facemask call resulting in a fumble, and Kevin Kaesviharn commits probably the worst incident of pass interference I have ever seen to set up the Vikes for a game-winning FG. I’ll bet it was after watching film of that specific play that Gregg Williams decided to just go ahead and cut KK loose. No need to bother bringing him to OTA’s, no need to bother bringing him to camp, just get rid of him.
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

NO! Now I need some Paxil to pull me out of this funk
That was an exciting game that the Saints had no business losing.
1) I actually felt bad for Grammatica. He was hurt. He should not have been kicking even though he made that long one, he was way overcompensating which is why he hooked the other one so badly.
2) That facemask non-call was BS, big time.
3) KK got beat and tried hard to catch up. The receiver stopped short to field the ball, KK had no idea where the ball was, and just ran into the receiver. He needs to be selling insurance, his time in the league is over.
4) Seeing Reggie return punts made me think about 2009. See the Reggie fanshot comments.

Darren Sharper
After posting 2 items on this Viking/Saints game, I failed to list something that was very noticable, Darren Sharper was toast (and most of the game he stunk), and Devery was doing the toasting, he beat him on the first TD, and later a long pass inside the 20/30 of the Vikes which ended in a FG att. blocked/returned for TD. My point is —we got him now, and he’s another yr. older , we still should draft S, LB, or that DT Raji (Boston C), love to see him next to Ellis,we had no pass rush last yr, a good pass rush can help the secondary big time……..

I wonder...
…what’s the shipping cost for “scum of the earth” material delivered in Canada.
Reminiscing Archie. How could there be anything wrong with that…
SB minus just a D above average.

NFL films
has a catalogue of games/seasons, I have the list somewhere in my junk, and its from several years ago. Game films were around $50— more for special games and SB’s.90’s money maybe higher now. Hope NFL network could spend more time showing old games (random games) instead of that Giants/Colts 58 champ game weve all see a 100 X.
