1. Deuce McAllister

McAllister, one of the most beloved players in Saints' history, was given the heave-ho by New Orleans.

With a couple of torn ACLs and a looming four-game suspension for taking the weight-loss supplement known as StarCaps, McAllister might try a new approach to keep his figure: waiting by the phone for an NFL team to call.

Let's face it, if he wouldn't have been one of the top two tailbacks with the Saints, it's likely he won't be one of the top two tailbacks in most other cities — especially since young ball carriers fresh out of college are plentiful and guys lower than No. 2 on the depth chart are expected to play special teams.

Deuce seems like a good guy. He should walk away on his own terms, before he's forced away on someone else's.

Man, Deuce beat out Brett Favre. That's sad.

10. Jeremy Shockey

The Saints tight end had a disappointing year in 2008, and there's a sense in some circles that his best years are behind him.

Maybe he'll turn it around and have a solid season or two in New Orleans' high-octane offense. But the recent "dehydration" incident at a pool party in Las Vegas isn't a good sign.

So maybe we'll all be better off if Shockey just calls it quits now, before he fades away.

Or has a more serious episode of "dehydration."

Wow! Really?

I’ve come to regard this website as a “nothing to see here” sports site. Really, who the hell is Mike Florio to determine who should call it quits? Here’s his resume:

Mike Florio writes and edits ProFootballTalk.com, which he founded in 2001. His site is followed closely by NFL players, coaches, executives and agents. He has served as an analyst on the NFL Network, CourtTV and radio networks and stations throughout the country. Mike is a practicing lawyer in his spare time and eventually hopes to write more books that no one buys, such as “Quarterback of the Future,” a 2001 novel that pulled him into this business. Mike resides in West Virginia with his wife, Jill, and their son, Alex.

What? Where’s Aaron Brooks on this list? If Deuce’s knee heals (and it appears to be doing just that) he should play for any team that wants him. He’s still very capable and well experienced. I can’t believe this d-bag has Shockey on the list. That just proves how stupid his analysis is and how his opinion is utterly irrelevant.

Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Probably he just needed an extra name to fill out his list of 10 and so he desperately looked around for anybody to make fun of and figured “oh people will laugh at my throwing in Shockey”.

This isn't "10 NFL players who should retire now"

It’s “A bunch of NFL players I don’t like, some who are getting up in years.”

I find his reasoning very weak in a lot of cases.

Unfortunately, his point on Deuce may have some validity, but it’s overshadowed by his asking a 25-year-old player to “retire” and saying Shockey is done, because he got loaded in Vegas and dehydrated.

Another opinion smelling up the room.

Do you know what it means...

I can't stand it when these a-holes do this

Who the hell do you think you are, Mike? It’s none of your damn business what these players should do regarding their life. You should freaking retire Mike, because the only thing spewing from your mouth is excrement! AAARRGGHHH!!!!

Who IS the Stig?

I agree

it’s easy for him to sit there and say that- these guys 1) have families to support 2) are doing something they love and 3) will not have a job if they no longer contribute- the NFLis painfully honest about that

Sporting News and PFT

…are HORRIBLE sites in terms of analysis. There’s never any substance to any of the “opinion” pieces that are written, and this article is more evidence of that.

SN vs PFT

I’m not quite so sure on SN. Iyer is actually quite good. Most of the rest of the morons there are just that, morons, but he brings their average up quite a bit.

But yeah, PFT is a joke.
