Tulsa World: Q&A with Drew Brees
A quick football question concerning one of Tulsa's own. There's talk Robert Meachem could be a big factor in your offense next season. What do you think?
Robert has been doing great here in camp. He's continuing to improve every day and has been awesome. He works extremely hard. He's quiet and humble in how he goes about his business, but I know there is a lot of inner fire and drive there as well. He deserves to be successful because of the way he works. Robert is an exciting young player. The possibilities for him are endless.

I have Meachem
on my FF sleeper radar. He showed up big the few times he got extensive reps in last year. Year Three is often the breakout year among young WRs. Of course, last year was Colston’s third and he got injured. As long as that doesn’t happen again and Meachem shows improvement, they should be in good position to let Lance Moore hit the open market by season’s end and dedicate the big bucks to a more crucial area of need. Nothing against Moore, obviously. WR is just a rotating door of opportunity in this type of offense. A seventh rounder and an undrafted player in the starting lineup is a pretty clear indicator of that. David Patten was a third, Adrian Arrington will soon follow suit. As long as Brees is dropping back to pass 550+ times a season, there’s no reason they should be locking anyone up long term at that position. Unless Mr. Loomis is able to hammer out cap-friendly deals, like Devery’s recent 4 year extension, I mean. Otherwise, I’d be willing to play the “now serving number eighty-_” deli game all night long.
