How much is a family member's life worth?
Sounds like the family of the man killed answered that question with a dollar amount. Just goes to show that big money can buy a person’s way out of most problems. I agree with JasonB’s take on this from Bleeding Green Nation.

Also
It’s important to remember that Mr. Reyes wasn’t totally free of fault either. He was jaywalking on what has been described as a very busy and dangerous street. I’ve heard reports that Stallworth saw him in time to avoid hitting him, but I haven’t seen any further description that would detail why the man still got hit. I’ve been driving on busy streets many times when a jaywalker will just appear out of nowhere forcing me to slam on the brakes to avoid him. My annoyance at those past events makes me more willing to not totally blame it all on Stallworth. Apparently, the Miami judicial system sees it as both the deceased man (RIP) and Stallworth being at fault, which is why they didn’t push for a tougher sentence.

I agree as well
As long as the victim’s family is satisfied with the settlement and judgment, that’s really all that should matter. Had this been a repeat offense, I could see where Stallworth might be deemed a potential threat to society, thereby justifying concern and/or outrage on the part of the public. As is, it’s an unfortunate isolated incident. Hopefully, Donte will learn from it and go on to use his name recognition as an NFL player to educate others on the dangers of driving while impaired.
