The Correct answer is definitely "Stujo4 for getting his panties in a wad"

First of all, thank you for all the kind words and thoughts.  It means a lot to me and I do appreciate it.

Star-divide

I didn’t drop off because of the moderator issue (my error, I should never have accepted the job).  It was because of a fundamental philosophical difference with Saintsational Dave about the direction of CSC:  Are we a tool of the Saints organization in order to gain access to them (interviews), or are we a Saints blog with freedom of expression (excepting profanity)?  You can see my feelings about this here.

You may think this doesn’t matter or doesn’t apply to you, but you should think again.  In the future, you could be admonished, reprimanded, or banned for your comments, or for  putting up a fanpost such as “Shockey: The worst management decision of the Loomis-Payton era”.

Before you say “Oh that will never happen”, it has ALREADY happened to me (admonished), about Chip Vaughn, for example.

So what do I want?  One meellion dollars.  Not really.  I don’t want anything.  Well, I do want the Saints to win the Super Bowl.  I love the Saints (thanks, asaint).  This is currently the best site for Saints information.  Although Dave likes to say it belongs to everyone, it really belongs to him.  Just like the Nazi over at Arrowhead Pride said, the blogger runs the blog for SB Nation and he has the final say.  But I’ll be around, posting here and there, no big whup.  You can always contact me at stujo4@aol.com

Welcome back Stu

I’m not totaly sure if I understand why you left, but it’s good to have you back. I personally think it works better around here if we DON’T all agree. Bring your opinion and try and change our minds, that’s what it’s all about. But who am I telling, you’re the infamous Stujo4. It’s like Elvis coming back to life, he’s bigger than before.

I just read the link of your feelings

and that UCrawford guy seemed like, gotta watch my words now, a dick. Taking things way too seriously, or maybe he’s just jealous that the Saints are better than the chiefs. Anyway welcome back.

Actually, no, the UC guy was 100% correct. Fascist is thrown around like it’s an insult or a curse word. It’s not. Words have specific meanings and fascist is not what the guys at Mile High are. Stupid, overbearing, dictators, jerks, and a few hundred other words may or may not apply, but fascist 100% does not apply in any way shape or form.

On the other hand, I can understand being annoyed with being told you can’t say or write something. But if that’s truly your feeling then you should start your own blog where you can say what you want to say. Or find another one to become a writer for and visit here only occasionally. … But I would prefer you didn’t vanish again… so don’t, OK?

welcome back, Stu

I wasn’t around when you split, but if you’re half the objectively outspoken musclehead Dave paints you to be, I’m honored to post in your presence. Jk, Dave’s never mentioned you. I know where you’re coming from, though. I took a ton of grief on another site for lambasting the Stallworth-for-Simoneau trade, a few years back. While I feel a little better about it now, I can’t imagine the size the knot in my stomach would be, had Donte’s playoff touchdown with the Eagles been the play that sealed our fate that season. And it damn well could have been. Starting WR coming off his best season as a pro for a perennial backup MLB/hard-nosed special teamer. Yep, heat up the crucifixion stakes … I’m a Lord Payton pundit at times, too.

by coldpizza on Jun 27, 2009 10:13 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Well… I couldn’t resist… playing devil’s advocate is too much fun… so how do you know we would have made the playoffs at all without Simoneau? He wasn’t as good as Vilma, of course, but he was pretty steady and we desperately needed a steady presence in the middle at that point. We had absolute turmoil on both halves of the team at that point, and we knew by then that Colston was the steal of the decade and we could afford to live without Stallworth.

Even if that had been the end of our year, it still would have been a magical year. But of course I’m glad it wasn’t. I just wish bad rex would have shown up for more of the counterpart game. Can you imagine having played Seattle in the Dome instead? I sure would have preferred that! :)

Your post

Is laughable on so many levels. Let’s break it down:

Stallworth has averaged 3.11 receptions per game over his career. Not only is that more than 2-3, it’s considerably more than Henderson’s 1.77 rec/game average. Michael Lewis’s 0.37 rec/game average also pales by comparison. Lance Moore has averaged an identical 3.11 rec/game. Actually a little less, being that I’m rounding off. These are players that were retained in lieu of Stallworth in 2006. Other WRs have been brought in since. David Patten’s average? 2.20 rec/game. Terrance Copper’s? 0.73. If Stallworth “really sucks”, because of the “2-3 passes he catches per game” (sic) what does that say of all these other WRs?

Keep in mind, Stallworth’s average is without ever having played in Sean Payton’s pass-heavy offense. What’s Henderson’s excuse? He’s been here all along, has been less productive throughout and has higher percentage of drops. Not just higher than Stallworth. He’s led the ENTIRE LEAGUE that category. TWICE, in case you were not aware.

He was never 4th on New England’s depth chart when healthy. The 75 yd TD he hauled in against the Saints in the playoffs was on a crossing route (i.e., over the middle). His Saints contract expired when he was with the Eagles and they tried in vain to resign him. He instead signed with a perennial Super Bowl contender. For the money New England was offering on a one year deal, who can blame him?

If you are ignorant enough to believe Simoneau is one of the main reasons the Saints went to the NFC Championship game in ‘06, I have no problem stating that Stallworth is one of the main reasons the Patriots went undefeated during the regular season in ’07. How did they ever manage to do that with a “cancer” on the team? Make that TWO “cancers”, as Randy Moss has been called the same ridiculous cliche. Why is it that Bill Belichick can keep supposed malcontents like this in check, but Sean Payton "can’t (and won’t)", to borrow your deeply philosophical verbage? Maybe THAT’S the difference between a SB winning coach and a coach that perennially lingers around .500.

“Frauds” and “workaholics”. Funny how the thin line between good and evil just so happens to coincide with “member of the team” and “no longer a member of the team”. Stallworthlessness! How cute. Simoneautalent. Gosh, looky thar. I can string together nonsensical words that reflect my lack of maturity, also. Again, your post is doing a superb job of supporting the point I originally set out to make.

How’s about not using hindsight for once and answer this question: If Robert Meachem breaks out this season with 70 catches for 945 yards and 7 touchdowns, how excited would you be to see Payton trade him for a backup linebacker going into 2010? On second thought, don’t answer that. I’ll answer it for you. You’d be ecstatic, because Payton is all-knowing, Meachem drops passes, tweaks hamstrings like a malignant disease, the new guy is the greatest thing since sliced bread and works his butt off, blah blah blah. Save that rose-tinted Kool-Aid for someone that’s thirsty. I’m too busy forming my own opinions to sip it now anyway.

I guess you get off being nasty and having an arrogant attitude

and if you think Stallworth was worth keeping, I am not even going to point out how your arguments are off base. Except to say that Stallworth was BELOW Moss, Welker and Gaffney- clearly and he hardlygot playing time by midseaseon. He was not a #2 or a #3. He was 4. I have my issues with Payton but he was right here. And, Andy Reid didn’t want him and he was right too. And New England didn’t want him to stay either. 4 teams – what 7 years? You figure it out. There is a reason why a professional receiver with fantastic speed only lasts a season on teams. And excuse me, 3.11 entire catches per game- wow he’s a phenom!! And Mark Simoneau started 58 out of 78 games the last 5 seasons he played after learning the ropes for his first 3 years as a pro linebacker whioch is not unusual. He also was an important part of a defense that went to the NFC Champ game in spite of Gary Gibbs. Hardly makes him a backup. and ps- you seem like a very, very angry person. i feel sorry for you.

by Philinwood on Jun 30, 2009 6:42 AM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

"3.11 entire catches per game- wow he’s a phenom!!"

Again, what does that say for the WRs we kept?

He was their slot starting slot WR. That’s 3rd on every depth chart I’ve ever seen. He got hurt and Gaffney filled in. 3 contracts, 7 years. The average length NFL contract is 3 years. To join in on your Tom Jones karaoke routine, that’s not unusual.

Reid wanted him back. He made that very clear following the 2006 season. The Eagles front office just didn’t get it done.

BECAUSE of Mark Simoneau? DESPITE Gary Gibbs? HAHA Ha. Here’s a valid notion. Maybe the reason Gary Gibbs SUCKED so much as a defensive coordinator is BECAUSE he all he had to work with at the time were players of Simoneau’s caliber.

And I’m not angry at all. I just think it was an assinine trade, based on VALUE. They game up someone of VALUE (at the time), and got someone of far less VALUE (at the time) in return. They’re both of virtually no VALUE now, because one is sitting in a jail cell and the other is perpetually warming a bench. Thankfully we’ve landed an actual starting MLB and adequate WR talent since to offset the losses we took on this Year 1 abortion.

by coldpizza on Jun 30, 2009 8:03 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Reid had wanted him, they would have kept him.

The Eagles do this Good Cop, Bad Luck Cop thing all the time where Reid acts like he wants a guy so the fans won’t turn on him and then the mgmt says 0h, we tried our damnest to get him back- like they did with Dawkins.

Before I get sidetracked...

Welcome back Stu! Now, to get sidetracked…

You cannot honestly be comparing trading Stallworth to trading Colston, are you? Stallworth has never been 1/4 of the player that Colston has in his first couple of years. I realize that we have the benefit of hindsight, but any regrets at not having Stallworth? He was coming off of a good year in 05 but come on…

He almost never catches a ball cleanly, therefore mostly negating his speed. I just never saw anything that would have lead me to believe that he was worth the money. I’d much rather have Henderson. As for the draft picks that resulted from trading him, both directly and indirectly, definitely not good.

by SaintBevo on Jun 28, 2009 9:25 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I made that comparison

based on the fact that he was the best WR we had at the time. Or rather, the one with the most potential to contribute heavily in the immediate present and future. Figured I’d clarify that, before you start throwing Joe Horn statistics at me. I didn’t say anything about Stallworth’s first couple of years. Stallworth going into ‘06 is comparable to Colston going into ’09. But you’re right, it’s not the best of comparisons. Primarily because we have Moore, Henderson and Meachem to fall back on, in the event of a Colston trade. All we had then was Henderson. And Colston, if you truly want to believe Payton has crystal ball foresight.

Stallworth hasn’t dropped anywhere close to percentage of on-target passes Henderson has. We can go the KC Joyner route on that one, if you wish. I’d rather have Henderson NOW, being that he isn’t suspended indefinitely, but who in their right mind would have coming out of ‘05? Other than LSU fans, I mean. Does Henderson’s superiority explain why no other NFL team showed interest in him on the open market? Stallworth signed multimillion dollar contracts with both New England and Cleveland. Maybe he’s just a bigger con artist, than Henderson is a well-kept secret. Yeah, that must be it.

As far as the “not worth the money” point, his contract wasn’t up until February of ‘07, so I fail to see how that would have factored into the decision at the time. How did the money they saved by dealing him off a year early help the ’06 team exactly? If "it helped offset Simoneau’s contract" is the best answer you can provide, I’ll gladly counter with a resounding “not worth the money even moreso”. Any regrets at not having Stallworth in ‘06, you ask? Absolutely. When two players combine to account for 42% of a team’s receptions in a season and one of those players happens to be a RB, things MIGHT be a little too predictable.

What a lot of people are fail to see is, you’re not talking about Stallworth vs Colston … you’re talking about Stallworth + Colston vs Colston. With Payton’s inexplicable reluctance to run the ball on a wet Soldier Field, I can’t see how having another talented option at WR could have hurt. What did Michael Lewis contribute to the offense that year, btw? Not a SINGLE reception. Had Bush been returning punts full time as a rookie, Beerman’s roster spot is expendable. If Bush gets hurt, so what? Deuce is the only reason we got past Stallworth’s Eagle team the week prior to begin with. Color me insane, but I can’t envision Hank Baskett torching our secondary on a 75 yd bomb. Did that imaginary bobble negate any of Stallworth’s speed? Good thing he can’t catch, or Fred Thomas would have REALLY looked like a dud.

by coldpizza on Jun 28, 2009 4:39 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Did that imaginary bobble negate any of Stallworth’s speed?

For every time Stallworth made a catch and streaked untouched to the endzone, there were 10 times he bobbled a ball that hit him in the hands and ended up doing nothing (ok maybe not 10, but you get my drift – I’m sure you’ve got stats on this too.)

I don’t happen to like Henderson all that much, just think he and Stallworth have similar skills and Henderson is a whole lot cheaper. Doesn’t bother me at all that nobody else wants him. He fills a role on our team and that’s fine with me. And, by the way, I think Stallworth’s contract made a huge difference. I think Payloo wanted to dump him coming off a career year when his value would be somewhat high. I’ll bet he would have had similar stats to Henderson if he had stayed .

Color me insane, but I can’t envision Hank Baskett torching our secondary on a 75 yd bomb.

Really?? I have absolutely no problem envisioning a whole range of players beating our secondary on bombs, especially with Fred Thomas back there,

by SaintBevo on Jun 28, 2009 6:25 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

He wasn't making

a ton of money at the time. He was entering the last year of his rookie contract. As a former first rounder, it was in the same ballpark as what Simoneau was making as a six year veteran on his 2nd contract. It was considerably less than what Henderson just resigned for and even that is a bargain by today’s NFL standards. And even if you’re right about similiar stats to Henderson’s, I’ll take another 745 yards and 5 TDs worth of offense over 34 tackles, a sack and an interception any day. As far as unfast Freddy goes, I’m with you. I just don’t see Baskett, Reggie Brown or any other WR on the ‘06 Eagles doing it quite so effortlessly. Doesn’t really matter anymore. Brilliant or retarded, it’s a trade three years in the past. The only reason I brought it up to begin with is because I took a ton of flack over my opinion on it at the time, and your defending it has done nothing to dismiss that perceived lack of objectivity. Same superficial “I never liked the guy” basis of opinion, different offseason. All we can do is agree to disagree and move past it.

by coldpizza on Jun 28, 2009 7:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

project much?

I took a ton of flack over my opinion on it at the time, and your defending it has done nothing to dismiss that perceived lack of objectivity.

First of all – you didn’t take a ton of flack from me, I don’t think you’re taking a “ton of flack” from me right now, we just disagree.

Secondly, I don’t think he gets 725 yds and 5 TDs for us in 06. While I’m no fan of Simoneau, he was an upgrade for what was the WORST LB corps in football at the time. He was a solid and steadying presence which helped the defense, and stats don’t always show that.

Thirdly, if me watching Stallworth and being able to tell he wasn’t a good player is being superficial, so be it.

by SaintBevo on Jun 29, 2009 9:28 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Contradict yourself much?

“I’ll bet he would have had similar stats to Henderson if he had stayed”

“I don’t think he gets 725 yds and 5 TDs for us in 06”

It was 745 yds, btw. Where did you think I pulled those stats from?

by coldpizza on Jun 29, 2009 9:42 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

my bad on the ststs

I looked at Stallworth’s stats in 06 and thought that was what you were referring to. The fact that their stats were so similar makes me miss Stallworth even less.

I confess to be a little confused about this whole conversation. It all started with you comparing Stallworth and Marques Colston:

you’d be cool with a Marques Colston for Hunter Hillenmeyer trade today. That’s roughly what it amounted to at the time.

I simply pointed out thus was mpt a fair comparison, based on my belief that Stallworth was never close to that good. Somehow, it seems to have morphed into point/counterpoint on Donte Stallworth. I think he was overrated when he was here, and was not at all sad to see him go. I’ve seen nothing since that has changed my opinion. If the Eagles really wanted to keep him, I think they would’ve.

I have no issue with getting Simoneau at the time. What we did with the draft pick was not good, I agree. In my mind, what the trade amounted to was us dumping a player that was not in Payton’s plans and trying to upgrade a weak position.

by SaintBevo on Jun 29, 2009 1:31 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You're still evidently a little confused

I was referring to Devery Henderson’s stats in ’06.

You said "I’ll bet he would have had similar stats to Henderson if he had stayed"

I replied “If you’re right about similiar stats to Henderson’s, I’ll take another 745 yards and 5 TDs worth of offense over 34 tackles, a sack and an interception any day.”

Meaning had Stallworth also played for the Saints in ‘06, your perceived value of his (same as Henderson’s) would be greater than Simoneau’s actual value in hindsight. To clarify, I’m not suggesting he would have replaced Henderson. If anyone, they should have nixed Michael Lewis or Joe Horn a year early. They were both on the downside of their careers anyway.

As far as the Philly keeping him, I know several Eagle fans that were livid when they didn’t. This compared to T.O. (a much better WR)‘s departure the year prior, when they were burying #81 jerseys in a coffin on game day. I can’t really blame them for not matching the Patriots offer, though. It was a ridiculous amount of money being thrown around, more per season than Moss was making, if I remember correctly. And even if they did match, Stallworth was an UFA and New England is a better team. It’s not like the Eagles held the cards.

But getting back to the part of my original post that you quoted, I wasn’t comparing Stallworth to Colston. I was comparing the difference in value between Stallworth and Simoneau, to the difference in value between Colston and Hillenmeyer. Colston > Stallworth, Hillenmeyer > Simoneau. The only reason I used Colston’s name at all is because he’s the best WR (in terms of being both a proven commoditiy and in long term potential) that we currently have on our roster, just as I feel Stallworth was coming out of 2005. I could have just as easily said Wes Chandler for Dan Bunz. Just figured I’d stick with players most people would be familiar with.

by SaintBevo on Jun 29, 2009 6:56 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

How was he an upgrade exactly?

Ronald McKinnon had nearly twice as many tackles in 2005 and started 4 less games. I’m pretty sure I could count the number of exceptional plays Simoneau has made during the three years he’s been a Saint on one hand, and still have fingers to spare. Solid, steady presence? On special teams, maybe. On defense, no moreso than the vast majority of mediocre-at-best, slow-to-react garbage we’ve been fielding since the Ditka regime. There’s been a few exceptions, obviously. I just don’t see Simoneau as being worth a starting WR coming off his best year as a pro. And neither did Philadelphia, being that they threw in a 4th round pick. Truth is, my disgust had very little to do with Donte Stallworth. He could have been ANY starting WR in the NFL - Nate Burleson, Ronald Curry, Justin Gage, you name it - and I STILL wouldn’t buy into that trade.

I hate that

Why do two hyphens lead to a strike out? Dave, anything you can do to fix the html code, or whatever’s causing that?

by coldpizza on Jun 29, 2009 10:27 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

If you use double hyphens without spaces—like this—you get a dash.

If you use double hyphens with spaces on both sides of them — like this — you still get dashes.

But if you use a combination of "space hyphen hyphen [text] hyphen hyphen space -like this- you get a strike-through.

Why? Because programmers think they’re smarter than anyone else, and they love automating things and inventing shortcuts to problems that create more problems in implementation than they solve. Forget that the vast majority of people never use strikethrough, and dashes are common…we’ll just make the hoi polloi conform to our standards. And people wonder why Microsoft continues to attract evil like a lodestone.

This is OUR year!

Thanks Dave

Nobody appreciates anything until it’s gone. You’re doing a great job and mostly we, as a group take you for granite, and you are missed. Posting at 6 am every morning is the most time comsuming I’m sure. But, keeping 200 middle aged men from killing each other will make your hair fall out. I personally think that you have been very diplamatic with every situation that has arose.

Now, quit posing and commenting and get back to that woman that will put up with you for the next 50 years or so.

Right, Chris not Chip. Who the hell is Chris Vaughn??

Mr. Chris Vaughn Sr. came on and posted an annoying coldpizza length post about his prince of a son (that was your interview there Dave, what else was there to say?) and I called BS. I don’t really know if if was BS because I didn’t finish reading after the part where Chris Jr. and his girlfriend were suspended or something. But the length of the post alone was BS. So did dad leave CSC before or after junior was cut?

Saintsational Dave is not a Nazi or a fascist, he’s very polite. And he’s still The Man.

I've got a word or two
To say about the things that you do.

Did you lose a bet?

Sounds like you want to get as many people to hate you as fast as you can.

As much as I appreciated you’re first posts over here I’m getting fed up with your condescending attitude. For somebody who puts so much work (words) in your comments, one would think that you’d like people to read it, no? I don’t think you’ll mind that much but you did lose at least one reader….

Aww!

That was uncalled for. Funny, I didn’t even had to scroll to get those two examples since they’re all over…

by FrenchFreak on Jun 30, 2009 12:53 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do you know what else was uncalled for?

“an annoying coldpizza length post” -stujo4
“this dribble” (sic) -Big and Easy

What, did you think I was just going to let the snide remarks slide?

Think again. I’m not sure what part of a response to backhanded criticism could ever be fairly deemed “uncalled for”. If stujo4, Big and Easy, you or anyone else doesn’t like what I have to say or the way I present it, you can any one of the same two options I’m faced with every time I disagree with something I read:

a.) ignore it.
b.) offer a differing viewpoint.

In this camp, your telling me what positions I should take and how concisely I should summarize them will more often than not be met with option a.). It’s the same option I highly recommend you consider, being that you’re “fed up with my condescending attitude”. Can you say hypocrisy? Sorry dad, I had no idea this was Bend Over Backwards for the Huffy Whiner Week.

by coldpizza on Jun 30, 2009 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

There’s always another option. Write them off (mentally) as morons and walk away.

There’s this great old saying. “Never argue with a fool, people can’t tell the difference.” Now I’m not saying you are one, (or even that the others are), but if there’s even a chance that you might be perceived as one by continuing the argument, then it’s not worth it. Figure the other guy is either an idiot or just having a bad day, grumble to your wife/friend/whatever, and then walk away.

by FriarBob on Jun 30, 2009 3:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

only stujo4s walk away

I’m more of a “when you have them up against the ropes, finish them off” kind of guy. At least, within the realm of a legitimate debate. I’m fully capable of ignoring the Snidely Whiplash sidebar assassins and non-contributing members of any peanut gallery. Solid advice in general, though. I’ll will do my best to heed it, as often as it complements my disposition.

Thank you Stu

I appreciate the kind words.

Chris Vaughn was a free agent wide receiver pick up who was with the two for all of about a week or two. His father did leave. Not sure how he found us. I think he just wanted to TRY and set the record straight.

As far as long-winded comments by coldpizza or anyone for that matter only make CSC better. The alternative is a bunch of idiots who say “first!”

I also wanted to say one more thing. I have actually thought about the whole “gaining access to the organization thing.” Having done this now for a while and having talked to a few members of the MSM, I have come to realize that because of Sean Payton’s tight grip on pretty much everything, there isn’t very much difference between the MSM and this here blog. Believe it or not, it actually levels the playing field. So I really have no desire to gain more access. As long as Payton is at the helm, it won’t get us much further. And if I ever DID get access…I wouldn’t fall in line like everyone else. I would push it as far as a could and see how much I could get away with. All they could do is take it away from me and I would only be back where I started. And it would certainly be a fun little experiment, don’t ya think?

Boom! rec'd it!

After reading the explanation from both sides, I can see each point of view. It seems that ever since Hap first posted there’s been this tension here focused on figuring out what kind of Saints blog this should be. Should we try to build a relationship with the organization so we can land the occasional player interview (the Usama Young interview was great) or should we take them to task when they deserve it (the release of Houser makes no sense by the way)? It’s a tough call, but it’s mostly Dave’s call since he resurrected this blog from it’s former dead self and put in a huge amount of work every day since to keep it going. I learned from those pre-Draft player write ups we did that I don’t have enough spare time to do anything more than occasionally post an article link. Dave puts in a lot of work around here and, although I may not agree with every little decision he makes, I support his right to make those decisions.

I hope we can all survive here until training camp begins. It seems like we’re having football withdrawals, since there’s absolutely nothing going on right now. It’s like we’re all stuck together in a vast and empty desert with no hope of rescue until August. Rations are running low, tensions are running high, and we’re starting to think about eating each other for survival. I hope that doesn’t happen. The thought of chomping down on M-E’s or Stujo’s leg disgusts me. There’s not enough ketchup in the world to make that appetizing.

Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

I am sure I am not the only one who appreciates your work.

I think I truly have an idea of how much work and dedication you put into this site. And it is natural to oversee it and try to keep it from backsliding as it is probably one of the best NFL sites out there. And it seems to me that things can get out of hand and snowball really easily. It doesn’t just happen randomly that a top-notch site such as this pops up and runs on cruise control with no oversight.

I don’t see any reason for nasty attitudes and name calling like I see at times. Strong opinions- sure! Dissent- of course. But just as an dealing face to face with someone, there is no reason for name calling or degradation and snied remarks or other types of approaches that are other than respectful. We are all Saints fn want them to win. We are in this together for good or bad. And if you see fit to contact someone if you think they’ve crossed the line, even if it’s in the name of protecting a great thing, I say more power to it. That ‘s far from being a fascist or even a control freak. That’s called good judgement.

Not so ok now when there are 900 people and I dont know 880 of them.

I see that you have only joined us since February ‘09 and I want to let you, and everyone, know that it is just tough getting daily content out at times like this. I apologize if we’ve taken a little historical trip down memory lane here but I promise it’s not like that once the players start hitting the field. So please bear with us here.

No just needed to fix my vocabulary re: contributor/member

And I really wasn’t complaining about the historical look at the Saints—just sort of explaining my lack of activity on the site since the Saints’ history has never been my cup of tea (I know—how heretical, give our teams’ GLORIOUS past).

And in the 6 mos or so I’ve been here, I agree with tay that we’ve been able to coexist very peacefully except for a few occasions, and I think the reason it works is that people here can disagree with each other and even tease one another (e.g., “REGGIE SUCKS TAY!!!!”) but if we do it with a common goal (i.e., we love the Saints) and a shared respect for others’ opinions, then there’s no problem. Even our most heated disagreements don’t devolve into name-calling—despite being a blog of 900 members (not all middle-aged, might I add—at least I hope 25 isn’t the halfway point of my life!) who all have strong feelings and want to defend their opinions— and that’s what makes CSC great. But in order for it to work, we have to have a mutual respect for one another—and I think the best way to deal with outliers is as FriarBob suggested earlier in the post—ignore them. The only excuse for back-and-forth retaliation is insecurity, and there’s no reason for that here.

So bottom line, Dave, (1) you’re doing a great job and (2) you shouldn’t be worrying about this drama while you’re honeymooning. It’s not like there’s any real Saints news to be worried about right now anyway.

For the most part...

This blog has been pretty kosher and amiable, I’m mean there was the time I kept calling Philinthewoods a hater and him and some other guy got upset about that but other than that things are debated respectfully. Today was prob the first time I felt like I read a post peppered with sarcasm and condescending flavor directed at other members. I’m all for know-it-alls but only those who know how to apply what they know with precision. Not to fill some subconscious void within in order to feel good about themselves or whatever and then masking it as bluntness or “keeping it real” or whatever. Be sensible and have some respect. Either learn how to post an opinion without coming in here and ruining the spirit of the blog or go to sportsline.com and excrete your puffed up and delusional crap. No names need to be named anyone objecting to anything I’m saying is a culprit. Otherwise, I’m not talking to you.

Don't worry I got your back cuz...

Damn right this is hard, especially in the off-season. Nothing new happening, so nothing to post, but you still have to try to come up with a conversation starter…and try like hell not to be lame.

Pay no attention to these guys…they’ve never tried this act before. Or if they did, they had the sense to get out of it. Jeez, you’d better be having fun. Just come back soon. You are coming back, aren’t you? Dave?

Agreed!

Just enjoy the honeymoon, Dave.

We all need a player arrest or something to talk about until August. On second thought, I’d prefer the boredom to losing a player. Can we temporarily talk about baseball for the month of July? I know I like to think about baseball in certain situations where I’m trying to delay a certain occurrence.

You’ve done an awesome job with the site since i’ve been here! We can last for a week without shutting down if you’re not here, now go enjoy you’re honeymoon already! I have full trust in ME running the site for a week. For the most part this has been a very friendly site. I agree with Tay that this is the first posts that i’ve seen where i feel like people are “going at each other” in a non-joking way. I hope that we can all remember why we’re really here. We’re here for the Saints! Whether you love the history and present or only care about the present, we’re here because we are all saints fans! Let’s try to keep that in perspective when we all post. Let’s try not to ruin a good thing for so many Saints fans with bickering and arguing. Also, if we regress to name-calling and such, we’re also ruining Dave’s hard work by turning off other potential readers. Go Saints!

Superbowl bound!!!...I hope? Go Saints! :D
