Around SBN: Randy Moss A Raven?

13. Gregg Williams, Saints. He uses a lot of stunts and twists with his linemen. Speed at defensive end is important. In the secondary, New Orleans will utilize a mixture of zone and man-to-man schemes with a lot of cornerback man-to-man coverages with safety help over the top in combination schemes.

Another load from the honey buckets

Excuse me, but…Dean Pees, 8th? “Pees is learning from the master”? Doesn’t this mean he’s still just a student?!

Greg Blache, 6th? Blache was Williams’ assistant!

Mike Zimmer, 9th? He’s been a coordinator for only two seasons, for two different teams!

It must be fun getting paid for typing while your neurons fire randomly. How does one go about getting one of these jobs?

(By the way…for a REAL hoot, take a look at their offensive coordinator rankings. An example: “3. Dan Henning, Dolphins. His system has stood the test of time, beginning with the Houston Oilers in 1972. Most recently, it has worked with Jake Delhomme in Carolina and Chad Pennington in Miami.” Dan Henning was fired in Carolina because his offense was too pedestrian.)

Good question

That’s what I’d like to know. Anyone can piece together meaningless lists like this. Williams will show ‘em how it’s done this season. As for their OC list, I was initially surprised that Payton wasn’t on there. Since he’s also the head coach, I guess they’ll rank him when they get to that meaningless list.

Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Yeah that’s the problem. Because Payton is the HC he doesn’t count as an OC, which means he can’t make the list at #1 where he would be otherwise.

Oh and Zimmer has performed not-so-minor miracles in Cincinnati ME & satch. I know he sucked it up with Atlanta the year before that but I’m not sure even Bellicheat could have done anything with that train wreck. His ranking is still tentative in my book because I want to see him repeat before I solidify him in the top 10, but getting a team with no defensive history a top-15 ranking while saddled with the dead-last offense giving it no help whatsoever is quite a non-trivial achievement.

My objection

wasn’t to Zimmer’s performance, but to the writer’s judgment. How can he possibly tell after only two seasons, for two different teams, that Zimmer is the 9th best coordinator in the league, and several spots better than a successful, highly-regarded coordinator with nine years’ experience? Answer: he can’t. He can only pull stuff out of his butt and hope it fools people. That’s what the media does all the time. At least when we fill space and bide time, nobody is pretending that it’s “journalism.”

This is OUR year!
