Transcript of New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton's press conference
Times-Pic
"Yesterday we had an excursion; we didn't have a practice."
What did you do?
"We were in the French Quarter with a scavenger hunt. It was a pretty interesting day. It was three hours and 21 teams. There was a group that came in and put together the package. It started downtown and finished over at Drago's in the city. It was good."
How did it work?
"There was a series of 10 clues where you had to go throughout the city - mostly in the French Quarter - and you were being graded by time and the amount that you got right."
What team won?
"Bret Ingalls' team - I can't think of the team name. We had a coach with four players on each team. They were the winners. It was contested, but they were the winners."
A scavenger hunt, huh? Sounds like a fun outing for the players. He talks a little bit about Ninkovich v. Houser at the long snapper position. Houser has been very solid for years. When has he ever snapped a bad ball on either a FG or punt? If it ain't broke, why fix it? This reminds me of when Payton let John Carney go and it also reminds me of the heartache and frustration that came soon after with Mare and Grammatica.

Any more information on the excursion to the French Quarter?
We were there and saw them. What were they searching for and what besides flat screens did they win?

s apostrophe s
Bret Ingalls’ team – I can’t think of the team name.
One of the scavenger hunt items should have been a punctuation guide for the Times-Picayune employee who edited this transcript. To the best of my knowledge, the surname Ingalls isn’t plural.

No, but if the name is Ingalls then you don’t insert the apostrophe INTO the name, dude…

correct
It should be “Ingalls’s team”. That was my point.

lol! How do you know when it's the most boring time of the offseason?
When there’s little to talk about and we start discussing grammar rules. I have to admit, I don’t know what’s correct for plural possessives ending in “s” either. Do you really put an extra “s” after the apostrophe? If so, I guess I’ve been doing it wrong also.
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

AP style trumps grammar
for a reporter working on a newspaper that’s an AP affiliate, which the T-P is. I can’t remember which apostrophe rule they use, but I always hated AP style.

a plural possessive
ending in “s” would simply get an apostrophe. I wasn’t aware that the AP operated under their own laws of punctuation. I grow more impressed with the vast database of useless knowledge we’ve assembled here at CSC every day. And you’re right, this is truly scraping the bottom of the barrel. Right there alongside the results of a team scavenger hunt.

And who were the players on the winning team?
And why was it contested? Why won’t the New Orleans sports media press Payton on the tough questions?

Don't quote me, but...
I heard someone planted Bullocks on a team, and he kept turning the wrong way when they came to a clue.
Do you know what it means...

lol!
The Times-Pic reports on the winning team:
The Good & Plenty team, captained by running backs coach Bret Ingalls, walked off with first-place honors and flat screen televisions. Ingalls’ team included snapper Kevin Houser, defensive tackle DeMario Pressley, fullback Olanlyi Sobomehin and Colston.
WOW! They all got flat-screens? Geeez!
Go Saints!!!! Deuce may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Don't forget the three rings of marriage...
The engagement ring
The wedding ring
The suffering
The first two you have to pay for. The last is just part of the deal.
Do you know what it means...
