Inspirational Information
Stu's post is getting mighty long, so I figured I would start a new thread.
(once again welcome back, no hard feelings)
We all see how much time Dave puts into this site and we love him for it, so lets band together to make things a little easier for him. Lets call it a wedding present from all the saints fans that love the chronic, uh I mean CSC or both. Anyway I find the greatest challenge for any writer is the actual inspiration and planning of what to write about. On this note I feel it would be beneficial if we had an on going suggestions page that would allow Dave or anyone else to take a gander at what we would like to see discussed. I know it is the offseason and right now there is little to talk about, but that is why it is the perfect time to plan ahead. Please do not limit these ideas to only saints related topics, it can be anything.
I'll throw out a few suggestions that I am thinking of :
- Roger Goodell's stance upon the reinstatement of Michael VIck and Plaxico Burress is indefinate suspension? (not sure if this is proper word) What are your thoughts about these players or related incidents of NFL players legal woes. Another could be Donte Stallworth...
- Skinneykinny suggested doing a preview for upcoming Saints match ups similar to southtunnels recent post (we should wait a bit for this) but in the form of a depth chart breakdown VS... who has the edge at each position etc.
- Obviously another section could be the team practices in July, with people designating days that they would be going, so we can get a nice photo section other than stuff provided through Saint's official sight. Also, maybe someone could video tape the practices and make a highlight reel (PLEASE!).
- Free agents available that we believe would be beneficial (breakdown by position) and why
- Individual Player status reports like what Dave wrote for Meachem or Reggie... can be really about any aspect of these player even medical ie.) Lance Moore
- Personal Stories involving games or Saints players... reminisce and enlighten the reader
- Specific college players that we should keep an eye on; it is never to early to think about new players.
- Worst saints players that you can remember, any reason will do as long as you give one. Maybe even a section similar to what we are doing with all-time best team but the inverse of said team.
- If you are tailgating before games and would like to get a CSC party going post a note before games home or away. If you have an RV you are a badass and we would love to come throw down with you; we promise not to leave you any presents in your toilet.
- .... take it from here...again if you would like this post to be easy to find in the future please rec it
Also whoever knows the artist whom inspired the title will get my respect.

smart call
I like moving in a positive direction, and there are a lot of good topics for discussion. I don’t have much time before my daily beach trip (the ONLY good thing about living in S Florida now instead of NOLA), but I’d like to comment on the Vick thing:
I’d be HIGHLY surprised if he plays in the NFL again. Plax and Stallworth are much more likely (and we know teams will look the other way with criminal behavior—look at Haynesworth, that freakin $100 million dollar criminal) but Vick is unique for a few reasons: (1) he’s a quarterback. That’s such a high-profile, highly scrutinized position, and there’s really been no precedent of another QB with such legal woes during his playing career (correct me if I’m wrong on that one). They’re the ones who get endorsements, serve as the cliched “face of the franchise,” etc.
(2) His criminal behavior is uniquely offensive because of how America is about pets. It’s disturbingly true—people get more offended about attacks on animals than they do on other people a lot of the time. It’s a lot harder to forgive someone who abuses the defenseless than it is someone who’s just a stupid drunk and makes a mistake that many can (somewhat) relate to—like drinking and driving, or shooting yourself in the leg (ok maybe not that one…but you get my point).
(3) He really wasn’t that good in his prime. This’ll probably draw the biggest criticism, but it’s my opinion and it’s statistically verifiable—he’s not a REAL QB. He’s a gimmick, and now he’s almost 30, and most teams might not gamble on him even if he wasn’t a legal mess— I know some teams are dire for a QB, but combine his image with his inability to be an efficient passer, and I say leave him to the UFL.
Sorry for the hasty post—just a starting point, but I’m excited about discussing these sort of things (but i’m more excited about going for a swim)—so bring on the debate!
Also, did a quick google search on the title—is it Shuggie Otis? No idea who that is, BTW.

Vick is Wildcat in a can
Miami should snatch him up

Someone will
Too much of a freakish talent to just sit out there. I could see him playing nickel CB rather easily. I think any time you have someone with that sort of skill set, you find a way to fit him on your team, provided you have the cap room. And I agree that he’s not an upper echelon NFL QB, but I’d take him as an emergency third stringer over just about anyone in the league, considering he could help you in other areas in the interim.

2nd string is more appropriate for his talent
but i see what you are getting at w/ 3rd string as ATL’s offense was built around him and not many teams could suddenly work that into their schemes. Another question would be do you believe that he is gonna play this year? To answer my own question I do not believe that Goodell will let him, regardless of peta and other crazy pet owners, because Vick lied to him and for all the bad PR this has generated . I have to feel that there is some spite in the way he is handling this…. the guy has been in JAIL for two years and has lost all his financial stability.
I agree that 2nd string
is more fitting, in terms of talent. If I’m not mistaken, an emergency 3rd string QB must be designated as such and can’t participate in a game in any other capacity. I remember that came up quite often in talk show conversation, when so many delusional Saints fans were clamoring for Adrian McPherson to leapfrog Todd Bouman as Aaron Brooks’s primary backup, several years back. The stickler being that Bouman was the placeholder on FGs, so relegating him to 3rd would mean either finding someone else to perform those duties, or carrying him on the inactive roster each week. In Vick’s case, I don’t think you’d want to designate him as your 2nd string QB, only to lose your starter to an injury, subsequently surrendering whatever Vick was providing you in offensive and/or defensive production on TOP of that, in order to compensate. Especially not when you’re bound to have a 2nd full time QB on your roster who’s more familiar with the QB playbook in that type situation. That being said, there’s ways to work around that rule. For example, if Vick is officially designated a CB, he could play ANY position (as long as he reported eligible before each play) and STILL substitute as a 3rd QB. Why? Because he’d no longer be a QB. It would be the same thing as having Joe Horn playing QB, had Bouman gone down in ‘05. A bit off topic, but I never understood why the Saints didn’t just designate Reggie Bush as a backup punter or kicker, in order to get around the jersey number rule. My guess would be because reporting #5 as eligible an elible receiver before every offensive play would have proven to be a monumental pain in the ass. Still, it’s something that could have been done to circumvent the rule, if it truly meant that much to the “Baby Matrix”. Hehe.
As far as him playing
this year, my guess would be no. Goodell’s too much of a controlling (needle poke) to let the justice system wear his badge of ultimate discipline. I don’t have a hard time seeing him being reinstated for the 2010 season, though.
"there’s really been no precedent of another QB with such legal woes during his playing career (correct me if I’m wrong on that one)."
Art Schlichter and Todd Marinovich are two others that immediately come to mind. Both were 1st round selections.

I would like to see a wall of shame team as well. That would be fun to vote on and debate.

The Saints
could probably field an entire division with exceptional losers and massive busts! Some players could make the best AND worst lists, I think, like Ricky Williams and Donte Stallworth(both in terms of onfield production versus cash and draft value).
by FuSoYa on Jul 1, 2009 10:40 AM CDT up reply actions 2 recs
Yep
And that would make it kind of difficult, for me anyway. For example, were Larry Burton and Lindsay Scott TRULY worse WRs than say, Brett Bech and Robert Wilson? Or do I just feel that way because we invested first round picks on them? Jonathan Sullivan’s another good example. Total and utter bust for what we gave up to get him, but he did have a couple of semi-productive games during the 2005 season. He also forced a fumble as a rookie. Just saying, I’m sure we’ve had a less productive DT on the active roster at some point.
Ryan Leaf
kinda fits, too. He was never a good qb, but he was selected second in his draft, and he was recently wanted in Texas for drug and burglary charges. He actually seems like more of an authentic scumbag than Vick, who is just an overly wealthy doofus with a really stupid hobby.
I agree on that, as well
The only reason I didn’t mention Leaf is because jful specified “during his playing career”. He never really had any legal issues during that time. He was just an abbreviated version of Richard. Same as Jeff George. Jim Druckenmiller was another that ran into some legal trouble (rape allegations), though he was acquitted.
I would love
for somebody to point out any olb’s other than Brooks who could still fit in at New Orleans. I’m still waving the Brooks banner, because he’s an all-time great, he still wants to play, he’s from our division, and he’s got to be cheap this year, but maybe there are a few less high-profile options out there that we could look at. It is hard to see how there’s no available talent that could unseat Shanle and Simenoux.

Two I brought up a while back
that I think would be perfect fits are Marcus Washington and Rufus Alexander.
by coldpizza on Jul 1, 2009 11:13 AM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
I’m liking the Washington selection. Not quite the perfect on paper fit that Brooks is, but same idea, not quite as old, and a proven player. Rufus Alexander feels a lot like Mark Simoneau. I had to Google just to find out who the hell he was. But you don’t seem to currently work in the Saints front office, so I’m slightly more inclined to trust your defensive scouting judgment.
You again?!?
What’s it going to take to get you focused on the right things, an intervention?
This is the only time it’s guaranteed!
Do you know what it means...
i know!!
go enjoy your time w/ your wife! i’m wondering about you now. :P
Superbowl bound!!!...I hope? Go Saints! :D
I think that an easy way to decide upon successful topics
would be to rec the relevant comments… like the wall of shame etc. Also please suggest things that YOU would like to see not just comment on what I thought up intoxicated at 1AM.
Also another comment is Look at how MANY people vote, but don't post or comment
Come on folks discussion is furthered with more and differing opinions!!!

I think Vick...
has served his time and should be allowed in the league again. Who knows if he would’ve ever improved on his accuracy/reads but we’ll see.
Don't worry I got your back cuz...
Saw my first arena league football game last night
Wichita beat Alaska 76-14 or something. Those guys all looked small and not very fast. I think Vick should come back in the Arena league for a while, he’d be a superstar there while he tunes up.

I think arena football folded?
or was that just the Voodoo?

The VooDoo folded
The rest of the AFL is on a one year hiatus (supposedly). The AF2, XFL, SIFL and IFL are all still currently operating.
speaking of arena football
Does anyone remember the New Orleans Night? I have a pennant from that short-lived team…

Position Battles
over particular positions such as: 3rd Running Back, 2nd and 3rd receiver, outside linebacker, 1st and 2nd corner, and 2nd defensive end while smith/grant are gone. We have propably touched on these topics here and there, but an organized post could get all the ideas together and be cool. Just an idea
great post
can it be forwarded to the T-P so they have some ideas on things to write about too?

not sure ask SS
Also SS make a poll or article about why people vote but do not comment. I know some are busy and what not, but I find it is only a select few that are constant contributors and a lot of Fanposts have excellent discussion/comment sections. Most of the time taking longer to write or research then the article did. I feel that more topics would be potentially be brought up and more spin-offs created. It is worth a post maybe we get a few more people commenting who knows?
You can vote at least twice
I’ve done it logged in + not logged in before. I’d imagine that if you can vote without being logged in, you could conceivably vote multiple times from different computers. That’s if it even limits by IP address. It could be as simple as clearing your cookies.
something like this might be cool as well
from what appears to be a Steelers blog, a countdown of Rothlesberger’s Top 10 Gamesm beginning with 2006 win over the Saints at No. 10.
See how many times you can see Bullocks and Fred Thomas get beat in the still shots. A pretty cool breakdown, even if it ended in an L for the Saints.
