Wednesday Afternoon Audio

I was fortunate enough to find a copy of last nights Sports Talk Unplugged with Kenny Wilkerson on 990am WGSO from a Saints Report thread. In light of Kenny's participation here on Da Chronic, I thought this would be great for those of you who don't live in the area and have no knowledge of Kenny and his work. You might also enjoy this particular audio because a caller actually mentions our live Q&A from Monday night and Kenny elaborates a bit more on an answer or two.

Kenny starts the show talking about the Hornets so feel free to skip ahead to the 17:30 mark, about halfway through, for the good stuff. Enjoy.

Boom rec'd it! The Payton part, anyway

I hate talk radio. I guess it has its place, If I was on a long car trip, it would help pass the time. Terribly inefficient, a lot more words than ideas expressed. On the other side, an online chat may be too succinct, causing your point to be misunderstood or extrapolated into something inaccurate.

Kenny makes a lot of sense to me, and his personality surprisingly doesn’t bother me at all. Maybe because I have no history with him. He allows that Payton learns from his mistakes. What’s not to like? Let’s hear some specific criticisms from the anti-Wilk.ites.

Nothing's worse than ignorance.

Regarding Payton and Williams

Put me down for this prediction: Sean Payton will allow Williams to run the defense with a minimum of interference. I believe this is true because Payton is indeed on the hot seat, and knows it. In other words, Sean Payton isn’t the boss: Tom Benson is. And just as the McCaskeys in Chicago informed Ditka when they hired him that Buddy Ryan was going to run the defense, I suspect that part of Benson’s agreement on the Williams hire hinged on Payton’s allowing Williams to run the defense.

If there are more defensive failures this season, and they’re accompanied by the slightest whiff of of an uncooperative attitude on Payton’s part, it won’t be Williams who takes the fall.
