DEs
We seem to be set at DE without Smith and Grant……..Not a bad situation to be in I guess.

THE ROSTER
Dont forget about Derrick brooks, We will sign him, but he wont get be there for another week or two. he dont need the hits and if we wait we wont have to guarantee his contract for the whole season. Wait and see…….

I can't see us keeping Drew Brees
Quarterbacks named “Drew” just never seem to make it. I say cut the cord and be done with it.

Just get the D going!

I would guess that Harper, Arrington, Pressley, Cassilas, Waters, and Vaughn are all people they might try to slip onto the practice squad after the major rounds of cuts in the hopes that nobody else during week 5 desperately needs position X enough to claim them off waivers.

I think Pressley stays and maybe a guy like Prioleau goes..
Can’t Chip Vaughn play the back up SS?

No way is Prioleau going.
No way. I will eat my hat.

Vaughn
IS a strong safety. Prioleau can play both. I can’t imagine him not making the team. Especially with Jason David gone. Same goes for Troy Evans. Quality special teams cover guys don’t just grow on trees. While I agree that Waters and Vaughn have more upside at their respective positions, you have to be wary of the big picture. That’s why Leigh Torrence is ultimately going to survive the cuts, as well as a possibly a 6th receiver or 4th running back. Harper’s not eligible for the practice squad, btw. Waters is though, surprisingly enough. Not sure if he’d clear waivers, though. I know Vaughn wouldn’t.

I just realized
you meant Rod Harper. I have a feeling he’ll stick, though another afterthought WR may wind up outshining him, before all is said and done. If was just reading his bio on Wikipedia and it says he was leading the AF2 (arena league) in scoring, TDs, receiving TDs, tied for most receptions and 2nd in receiving yardage when he signed with the Saints. Could wind up being a diamond in the rough, a la Oronde Gadsden for the Phins a few years back.

the real trick
will be the Week 5 53-man roster in light of the suspensions. Doubt 6 WRs will make it. If Arrington doesn’t get on the field, he will be odd man out I am sorry to say. Real potential, but needs to get healthy fast. Probably keep 5 WRs and 2 FBs, not 1.
Not sold on Torrance at CB. Every time I see him on defense, he is getting beat or badly missing a tackle. Remind you of anyone? Supposed to be a special teams demon, but I like Gorrer instead based on what I have seen so far.

Randall Gay?

Nate Bennett
could possibly edge out Nick Leckey for the backup center spot, being that he also plays guard. Not like they’re terribly pressed for bodies there anyway, being that Jason Kyle could fill in in a pinch. This would allow Duckworth to walk — or waddle, for what a Duck’s worth (thanks, I’ll be here all week) — and free up another roster spot.

Danny Gorrer
I really like this kid. he’s my darkhorse to make the squad. i’d like to see him make it over torrence anyhoo.

Skyler Green & Derrick Brooks (Maybe)
I think Skyler is the return specialist and has to make the team. I see the Saints going into the season with 6 receivers and Adrian Arrington moved to the practice squad with hopes that he does not make it. If D. Brooks is signed, I don’t see either Waters or Casillas on the squad. I think Duck is out because Troy Evans is great on Special Teams and he is a good locker room guy besides I think O-Line is good with him on the practice squad. When Smith and Grant come back, look for Charleston (although I love the guy) and another LB to become expendable.

Don't know if we will carry 3 QB's
this hasn’t been the history of Payton. I would like to see him figure out a way to keep Arrington. Although i gotta say that I like our back ups but never want to see them in the game (unless we’re up by 40)

this is true
I’d hate to see Harrington get cut, though.

i don't think
that green will make it. nothing in his return game has been impressive in my mind. let Reggie or PT take back some kickoffs. whoever isn’t going to start the next series at RB. Green has never been very good imo.
Superbowl bound!!!...I hope? Go Saints! :D

Roby
not green lol. that’s who you were talking about and who i was thinking about. should’ve read the post below first :D

Buck Ortega for Darnell Dinkins
Whoever is the better blocking TE will get that spot in my opinion. Also, Courtney Roby is one I’d like to see on the roster for his return skills, maybe instead of AA if he is injured or Harper. Also Derrick Brooks and Waters to practice squad.

You're right
I meant Roby not Green!

Derrick Brooks
isn’t eligible for the practice squad. Even if he were, I doubt a future Hall of Famer would allow himself to be relegated to the practice squad…he’d probably retire first.

agreed
if he didn’t make at least 1st backup i’d rather watch him retire.

RBs
Last year we had 4 rbs on the roster and this year we are suppose to be trying to establish the run, especially the short yardage game and time of possession. I would think they would try to keep a 4th back, the most productive out of Hamilton, Donaldson, or Hill.
I also hope they keep Roby to return punts.

Sorry, I was trying to say Derrick Brooks on the rosyer and Waters to practice squad
I guess it didn’t read that way, but i know that Brooks would never be on PS.

This is why...
the NFL needs to increase roster sizes. That should be on the table at the next CBA negotiations. Just a few extra spots, that’s all.

rocket man
I’ve always liked Roby because of his speed, and without the wedge this year, the kickoff return team will be a very important facet to the game. Of course, if the other team does not score, we will only use the kickoff return team once every game???

Chris Reis
Hoping to see Chris make the final roster, but I think the numbers are not in his favor…

Looks Good
But…
1. Who will return Kickoffs?
2. I think Bush will be starting Running Back.
by Lostastic on Aug 19, 2009 6:18 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Bush and Thomas will both be starting RB, until an inevitable knee/toe injury sidelines one or bot of them. Then it’s Bell all the way, and Brees returns to encroaching on Marino’s record. God help us all.

maybe Deuce really will be back in black(and gold) come October, if my naysaying predictions come to fruition.

I’d like to have him sign in late November instead. Then he’ll still be in good condition in February when we need him most. :)
