Does EA Sports have something against The Saints??

Madden 2010, The New Orleans Saints, And Their Dispicable Player Ratings

I found this online and got sick. If any of you play Madden especially online this is going to piss you off, or at least it pissed me off. These ratings suck, how am I supposed to defend the Saints after a loss online with these ratings and do you see what they rank Bush and Thomas - A travesty indeed!!

Posted by: Keith Null

Recently EA Sports released their highly anticipated player and team ratings for the next installment of the famed Madden series, Madden X.

Apparently the producers of the game are not fans of the NFL, as the new ratings are void of any actual realism to the game today.

I won’t get into all the issues with the other teams out there, and there are plenty.

We will focus on the Saints player ratings only, but if  you want to see the complete list of ratings follow this link.

What more can I say other than the rating is simply retarded. The Saints did finish 8-8 last year, last in the NFC South, but regardless of this most of these losses were by the slimmest of margins. The Saints were very competitive in most every game.

Secondly the Saints posses one of the more prolific offenses in the league, ranking as the top unit in the NFL two out of the last three years — at a minimum the team should be no worse than the low 80’s

What immediately stands out is the very low rating of both Bush and Thomas, the Saints 1 and 1A backs. Bush has elite speed, which makes him a threat to take it back to the house every time he touches the ball.

Sure he has struggled at times running the ball between the tackles, but defenses are gunning for him every time he lines up.

Thomas came out of virtually no where in 2008 totaling 625 yards and 9 touchdowns in less than seven games. If we use these numbers for estimation of what he could accomplish in a full season he would run for 1425 yards and nearly 20 touchdowns, phenomenal numbers for a running back.

Defensively the EA people have shown no love for any of our defensive players, especially in the secondary. On top of most all the players being rated far below what they should be, Tracy Porter stands out as the biggest disgrace with a 68 rating.

Porter was on fire last season before a wrist injury knocked him out. In the five games he started he was able to record 25 tackles, 5 pass deflections, 1 interception, and a sack.

So again if we take these numbers to use for estimation of what Porter could do in a full season he would amass 80 tackles, 16 pass deflections, 4 interceptions, and four sacks. A 68 rating, you gotta be kidding me.

Next is the gross misrepresentation of the Saints offense line, where the average player rating is 72. The 2008 offensive line ranked tops in the NFL in the least sacks allowed category.

Drew Brees’ quick release is a contributing factor to this, but he can’t take all the credit. Also Thomas managed to average nearly 5 yards a carry running behind these guys.

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Then on to special teams, they have kicker Garrett Hartley rated at 68 and punter Gary Pakulak a 61. Hartley played in 8 games with the Saints last season, never missing a single field goal or extra point the entire time. (13 of 13 on field goals and 28 of 28 on extra points)

He also averaged a 65 yard kickoff average with 9 touch backs.

Pakulak’s net punt average was 48 yards per attempt, which puts him high in the top half of the league among punters.

So it looks like the first few hours of playing Madden X for Saints fans will be spent editing player ratings to a more appropriate level, as EA sure couldn’t get the job done.

I can't believe that Malcolm Jenkins

is higher than Jabari Greer when he’s never even played a damn down in the freakin’ league. Whether it’s true or not remains to be seen. There is just no evidence to support that.

Very angry right now!

Well, I sure as hell aint gonna buy it now

I was on the fence about buying it this year, because I have taken a 2 year hiatus from Madden. I’ll wait till next year, after we win the Superbowl…

I was thinking of writing this post, after play

Massive oversight #1: the Saints have NO 3rd RB. None. No Bell, Hamilton, or even undrafted rookie. As soon as one is injured(which is almost immediately), your running game is useless.

Massive oversight #2: No discernible improvement, or even change to defense style. No Gregg Williams mention. The default N.O. defensive playbook is even more sparse than it was in ‘07 or ’08. No 3-4, no 46, and cover 2 is buried deep in the nickel and 4-3 playbooks. Apparently, the cover 3 is the Saints’ premier defensive look.

A short list of other sad oversights: No Hargrove, Campbell is there, and better than Miller(which I personally disagree with, if only in theory)and Dinkins is gone, Dan Morgan is still there, Jenkins is an instant star, while Porter is somehow far worse than Gay, Hartley can’t kick farther than 45 yards, Reggie Bush is slower than virtually every linebacker in the league, Lance Moore has terrible hands, and Brees can’t thread the needle in traffic.

Conclusions the folks at EA Sports seem certain of:

Bush is a total bust. He can’t so much as juke a linebacker effectively, and he gets RUN DOWN if he does break free.

Meachem will have a breakout year. He’s a superb deep threat, and so far he catches in traffic better than Colston.

Jenkins was a great pick. He jumps short routes consistently, and tackles better than anyone else.

Thomas is an every down back. Bush WILL go down in the fist half of the season(I’ve restarted my franchise twice, after losing Brees, Bush, and Brunell), and Pierre can literally carry 8 guys for five yards. It’s amazing.

The Saints defense can’t tackle for s—t. Deangelo Williams actually seems to become intangible once he’s heading north, like Kitty Pryde, for you comics enthusiasts.

Upside: 60’s throwback uniforms, complete with striped socks!

Additions I initially forgot:

Our punt return blocking is laughable, and, worst of all, there are tailgaters in the Superdome “parking lot”, and grassy hills off in the distance. Was this game developed in Calcutta?

Exactly

Bush can’t make it out of the backfield, okay. Harsh, but reasonable. But Bush gets caught in the flat? Almost never in reality, a foregone conclusion in EA Town.

…what to these bit-rump-rangers know about football? Most of ’em were trying to tape their horn rim glasses back together while we were at spring training in HS.

…chrisd21, I’d like to see your alligator mouth/canary @$$ self try to stop Bush. The guy was lighting up every defense he saw in the first 6 games last season, he stays healthy this season, you’ll likely see a pair of 1000 yard rushers in black & gold to go with a 4K plus passing attack.

Irony: An atheist Saints fan.

by GSO Saints Fan on Aug 21, 2009 6:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

normally I'd agree with you...

but I think these rating reflect a general lack of respect for the Saints in general. While this isn’t a big surprise, it does piss me off. Let’s assume that Bush isn’t a starting caliber back (let’s not go there right now) 79? Really? Knowshon Moreno is an 81 without ever having played a down. What is that based on? His college career. Who had a better college career? And if it’s true that bush is slower than most LBs, that’s just BS.

There are some stupid offensive ratings (Bushrod is higher than Strief even though he’s been behind him on the depth chart for 2 years? Heath Evans is our best RB?) but even crazier are the defensive ratings. Fujita is equal to/worse than shanle, simoneau and Morgan? Sharper is our best DB by 10%? Ok…

It’s all about the disrespect. We get less respect then the damn Lions. NFL network ESPN if you listen to when they report on the Saints it’s always extremely shallow no true in-depth reporting. Hell I get more info here then anywhere else. It’s “Breese is great, The D is horrible and Reggie Bush can’t run between the tackles….NEXT up Why are the Lion so bad…”
I feel like Rodney Dangerfield. How does the #1 offense in the league get such low scores. I’m sorry I’m really pissed off. I drop 50 bucks on the new Madden each year, these guys make HUGE paychecks to get this right.

Rookies

are notoriously rated too high on Madden. I still play ESPN 2K5 with up-to-date rosters for every team. Far superior graphics and play-calling, even four years down the line. Counting down the months until the monopoly dies. 2013 FTW.

Madden’s exclusive licensing deal runs through the 2012 season. If it isn’t extended prior to then (cross your fingers) we’ll be back to having competition, such as Acclaim, the ESPN series, etc. Even if you’re a fan of the Madden series, this is a good thing, because it forces them to get off their asses and make improvements. In the case of monopolies (which is exactly what Madden NFL currently is) there’s no “keeping up with the Joneses” factor and you’re seeing the end results of that as we speak.

Word

the NFL game monopoly has killed much of the joy in purchasing the yearly updates to games. I’ve gone back and forth on the Madden franchise through the years, but since their exclusivity took effect, they’ve just gotten worse. They look prettier, and you get more or different button functions, but the overall gameplay just gets more and more bogged down each year. I miss the Sega 2k series badly. It wasn’t always outright better, but it was mostly more fun, and always gave Madden a run. And where has Joe Montana Football been these past 15 years?! You didn’t even need an offense in that one. Every kick return was a touch down. Honestly, I’d love to play some Tecmo Bowl right now…

i got this game thinking it would be alot better. the game itself is better but none of the players get any respect except for high profile players that the nfl really wants to push. the faces of the franchises like Brees, Manning, Brady. No one on the Saints roster gets any respect except for Sharper. Bush does get run down in the flat, the Saints players don’t tackle worth a crap, and Bush has been injured in every game i’ve played so far. He has come back every time but getting hurt every other play is crap. Jenkins gets alot of respect too though. Best DB on the team, pretty much shuts down whoever i’ve played so far and picks the ball about 1 out of every 2 games i’ve played so far. Porters rating is crap even though he was our starter last year. Hartley can’t hit anything over 45 yards is true. Plus, for a 50 yard FG i’m getting madden’s recomendation to go for the FG. Hit it at full power and right down the middle(one of my few really good FG attempts) and he misses. The O-line…it makes me turn off my 360 lol. Not one of them is good in the actual game. No one can run-block. Bush is usually met in the backfield by 1 guy with 2 more coming after that. Brown gets beat consistently even though he’s a 94. They collapse on PA passing, as in as soon as i fake to the RB, before the screen zooms out to look at all the WRs, Brees gets sacked. Also, one of my biggest complaints is the on field view. I can never see my right DB/WR. If i play my safety and he gets put into man to man and the guy goes right, I have no idea where he is. Not so bad on the left side but still has a few problems here and there. Overall, if you plan on playing the Saints…don’t get the game. Keep playing 09 or earlier. 1 positive is the gang tackling but that’s still pretty flawed. If you’re at the line with 10 other guys and thinking your the first to hit the RB but you’re not then you just fly by when you press the tackle button. you have to push another button to help tackle the guy. stupid imo but i guess it makes it more challenging in a way. hope the next one is much better

on the FG thing

try building an open air stadium in lieu of the Superdome and set the game conditions to windy. If you lose the coin flip, elect to kick into the wind. That way, you’ll have it at your back at the end of the second and fourth quarters, likely the only instances you’ll be pressed for time to the point where you feel you HAVE to attempt a FG that long.

Download the roster update

and then restart the franchise mode using that roster. I think a lot of people don’t get that the developers have to finish coding a game long before it is actually released. Especially in a the preseason rosters are going to change. A lot. A 53 man roster during the preseason isn’t going to be that accurate, so if you want realistic rosters you are going to have to wait for a couple of roster updates before you jump into something long term like a franchise mode. When they finished coding the game and sent it for final testing Dan Morgan and Jason David were Saints, Pakulak was the more proven punter, and nobody thought Jonathan Casillas had a chance at making the team. Things change.

by VAsaintsfan on Aug 23, 2009 12:09 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Will do, thanks

I do understand that, but does the update include any change to the playbooks? The defensive playbook is terrible. I don’t mind switching team playbooks to Pitt or Jax, but I think you shouldn’t have to do that.

by FuSoYa on Aug 23, 2009 12:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Playbooks are still the same I think. I think for the most part they tried to get it close to what the teams actually run. For instance the Saints don’t even have a 3-4 formation as an option in this game. So if you are looking for a 3-4 then you have to switch playbooks, but then you run into performance problems of having 4-3 linemen and linebackers playing in a 3-4 set, so I wouldn’t think the Steelers playbook would fit for the Saints, but if its working for you go for it.

I’ve been alternating between that and New Englands for last 3 maddens. They also have the Wildcat. I tried the Saints playbook for my first 10 games and lost all of them, just wasn’t use to it. Prob could be, its a dope pb but too use to Pitts.

I think EA has drastically oversimplified N.O.'s defensive scheme this year

In Madden ‘06, the N.O. defensive playbook was awesome. It was still base 4-3, but there was a serviceable 3-4 and a killer 46. While the Saints clearly lack the personnel for the 46, and as a package, it’s a bit outdated, he video game didn’t know or care about that, and it was extremely useful in short yardage and exotic blitzing situations. The playbook has gotten understandably simpler over the past few years, but we have a new high-profile DC, and have had him since February. I think the playbook should bulk up to reflect the new defensive philosophy, even if the defensive player stats don’t suggest great success. Also, we do have the personnel to field a 3-4, even if it’s just a stunt package.

Or if you go to Xbox live, and select depth chart it should tell you you have an outdated roster and download the new one. I don’t think it will let you play an online game without the newest one either.

Bush does get hurt a lot...

u guys need to learn that there are defenses that ppl pick to run down Bush in the flats…i move one of my receivers or tight ends to the side Im running and block the guys they load up (called nano blitzing) But Bush is still a beast on the game, i break tackles by being elusive, but u have to have great stick skills. Give me ur gametags if u play on xbox 360 an I’ll lab with u guys and show u some tips, if ur on xbox live.

Plus u have to use the right playbook, i use pittsburgh which has a wildcat formation…im killing with it. I’ll admit i lost my first 10 games straight because of the slow gameplay and my adjustment to it. I was trying to play good players with a playbook i wasn’t familiar with but once i switched to pitts playbook, which is basically the same as on 09…

The newest roster update fixed a few things

In Wednesday’s roster update they fixed a few of the problems in the ratings. Pierre Thomas is now an 80 and the starting back. Jason David is no longer on the team (hooray!). Mike Bell is on the team with an overall 70 rating. I think Bush is rated about right, and is the best back in the game if you know how to use him. I’ve never had him get caught from behind and once he gets to the corner he’s gone. I think Meachem and Hartley are way underrated, especially Meachem’s speed. The update also has Carney on the team. Dan Morgan is also gone, and Simoneau shows up as injured for the year.

what game are you playing???

I use only the saints and average 100 a game right now. Reggie has yet to get caught from behind my 3rd game i had 350 yards rushing with him. His speed is still 97. If you wanna see what i’m talking about checkout some of my videos: http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/8597063
http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/8555360

and theres more there if u look, and this isn’t against the computer, I play exclusively online against other ppl.

Drew Brees is great, I’m throwing passes just like he does. I think the saints are on point for most part, I think the ratings for the running backs are low tho, RB and PT should be low to mid 80’s but online PT is actually 2 points higher.

So idk maybe ur just a recreational player and your playing cats with some game. People who know who to read the defense ur in and expose it or those who know how to put instant heat on ur QB as soon as u snap it…two years ago when i started playing online i realized i wasn’t as good as i thought because i could beat my friends. There’s businesses existing out there because they make playbooks educating ppl on how to play Madden, and ppl take it serious. Saints were 8-8 last year there offense reflects their dominance just as much as their D reflects there weakness.

Maybe it’s all my fault, but, you know, I’m not actually Reggie Bush or Drew Brees. I’m just moving avatars of them around with a toy. If I tell Brees to hit Shockey on a skinny post, I need the game to throw the ball for me like Brees does, and if I’m running towards a linebacker in the open field whose running at Bush full speed, when I indicate that I would like Bush to juke, the game has to actually execute that juke as if it were Reggie Bush. These things have not happened for me so far. From your videos, it doesn’t look like you utilize the right stick at all with your rb carries. Maybe that’s my mistake. All I can say is, I’ve done better faster with Bush and Brees in previous incarnations of this franchise. Honestly, Aaron Brooks was a better open field runner for me in the 2k series than Bush has been thus far.

i use it lil...

the right stick but its not as dope on M10 as it was in 09. In 09, I’d use it all the time, Reggie would just hop to the outside, now he does a little jig but i use the regular left analog more and rely on blocking. Brees is def most accurate dude on game but he’s slow as heck. I love using PT in 3 and short situations cuz he always falls forward. But like always Bush is always injured and he fumbles a lot. i’ve lost many a games last second because of him fumbling. I forgot what system you play on, if xbox give me ur gamertag, we’ll lab…

Don't worry I got your back cuz...

I gave up on madden long ago

I focus my football energy on NCAA, which for my purposes is more fun, altohugh I’m still not that good. At least my favoite team is good on the game – Hook ’em!

2008 Madden

was just playing 08 (2007 stats) on PSP Reggie has 98 speed/ 96 overall how does it drop 20 points.Wuzz up wit Dat? I started playing Madden around 96/97 and bought the game every 2 years and became re-interested after Saints NFC champ run, figuring a little more respect for the black and gold. When we win SB I’ll buy the following year’s game. Thanks Big Tmill I’ll pass on 2010.

You think you know, and you don't know, and you never, ever will know..Jim Mora Sr.

yeah he was a monster back then...

he still is with the speed but his overall rating sucks! He should be getting the around the same rating Westbrook is, because when he’s healthy he’s a killer. How can a homerun threat have a 79 rating?

Don't worry I got your back cuz...
