Where is the Respect

Just a quick comment: Where is the respect the Saints rightfully deserve. Everytime the Saints play well against a team no-one speaks on how well the Saints play but only on how poorely the opponent played. We dismantled the Raiders but all we heard from the media was "but its the Raiders". We looked great against the Bengals but all we heard was "but its the Bengals". I totally understand it is preseason and i know we can't hang our hats on the last few games but all i want is the respect that the Who Dat nation deserves. One time i want NFL Network or SportsCenter to say "WOW, even though the team they played did not look great, the Saints played a fantastic game. I don't intend to offend anyone with this post but it is just the way i feel. I been a fan my entire life brought up bleading black and gold instilled by my father. I love the Saints dearly and i feel pain when we don't get the respect that i believe we deserve. Thanks for your time.

That is one courteous post!

Put simply, the Saints have to get to the Superbowl to get out of the sports media afterthought doghouse again. After the amazing turnaround in ‘06, most of the football press predicted the Saints to build on their success and finally reach the big game, a prediction the team rewarded the media for(and more importantly, us) with two of the most mind-bogglingly mediocre years of football a group that talented could muster. It probably took a big gulp of pride for anyone to openly expect great thing from the Saints in the first place. While not statistically the worst team in NFL history they A) are probably close, and B) have been the most entertainingly bad team across the years, I think. If the NFC Championship game turned out to be NO/GB, in the dome, with Rodgers sidelined by injury, I imagine most folks would sooner take the Packers than admit nationally they expect the Saints to play up to expectation when it counted. To borrow the team’s recent catchphrase, they’ll have to earn it.

I’ll leave you with this, and hope they find their way this time. It hurts more to have all the tools and fail than it ever did to struggle to succeed.

"It hurts more to have all the tools and fail than it ever did to struggle to succeed."

disagree. I prefer being a bunch of mediocre winners than the mediocre losers some teams have been in the past.

we'll get the respect eventually

i really don’t mind not getting the respect. the only thing that sucks about it is that over here on the west coast, i don’t get to see/hear much about the saints on tv or else where. that’s why i love coming to csc. anyway, i think the saints have a real shot this year on making in impact on the league and making a serious statement about how good they really are. on paper, i don’t see how anyone can dismiss the saints. but when on the field, all the intangibles seem to come together and work against us. i really hope that is not the case this year and honestly believe we’ll make it to the big show.

agreed

completely. We always seem to find a way to choke whether it’s injuries, horrible ref calls, stupid penalties or something along those lines. I think that if we can keep the intangibles at bay in the playoffs we have a good shot.

Superbowl bound!!!...I hope? Go Saints! :D

I like that we're flying under the radar

we seem to do much batter in those situations than we do when everyone is expecting great things out of us

I agree

That’s why I always refrain from being overly optimistic.

and you beat the 0-1 Panthers

New season, new records. Also, did you think we were going to lose on purpose? Good teams win the games they’re suppose to win. On another note…this was posted before we played the Lions.

Keep it

on the down low bro. The only way u get the “R” is to beat it out of them (opponents). See my post reply of Saints get Snubed by Nat’ media 8/31. The big story this yr. is Jerry Jones and those obnoxious TV screens……

I remember Mel Gray, Barry Word, and the Dome Patrol. Before them, I was but a baby.
