I bet a lot of you are surprised that I would say this, being that I am perceived as a Reggie Hater. Well, I am not, by only issue with Reggie has been that I think we have "every down" type of RBs that are more what our offense needs to sustain drives and wear down defenses. This Sunday, I see Reggie playing a big role. I don't think any LB on the Eagles can come clost to covering Reggie, I think none of the safeties ditto. And I think he is a majoe challenge for any CB s to cover him. Combined with Colston, Shockey, Meachem, Henderson, Moore, Evans and Thomas, ( some of them will be on the field with Reggie at all times) I think the Eagles have majoe match up problems.
I know the Eagles real well because I intensley root against them every week, and I know them inside out. Their LB core is weak and exploitable. Omar Gaither is inexperienced and not a good cover guy. Gocong and Jordan are not exactly household words. They are missing their leader Brian Dawkins and it will catch up to them when they are NOT playing against a washed up chump like Delhomme. The two safeties (Mikell, Demps and then there is also a rookie who actually starts- Macho Harris) are not seasoned and will struggle without Dawkins and with the precision passing of Brees.
They will try to blitz a lot and bring heat from all over to compensate, but Drew can make them pay. He is experienced with the blitz and is a quick read. However, In my opinion it would be best to be patient and run the ball with Bell and PT early (the Eagles will give up yardage on the ground), then short passes to Shockey and Bush to soften them up. Take the home crowd out of it. Possibly short passes to others, depending on the match ups. But, clearly, getting the ball to Reggie in the flats and as a running back carrying the ball once the ground game is established a little, can really work. I don't think we should try to establish the running game WITH Reggie, just let him capitalize on it later and establish the short passing game with him. If we establish the ground game and are also successful on short passes to Reggie, et al, everything will open up.
