New Orleans Saints @ Buffalo Bills: Game Predictions

Alright ladies, it's time for our third installment of CSC's prediction contest. Make them here and make them good.

This is also the point in the show where we acknowledge last weeks most accurate guesser, so congratulations to bayoumaverick who went three for three. Since he doesn't have an avatar set up, I treat you to another Saints cheerleader picture.

Good luck to all of this weeks participants.

A SAINT in Panther country

by carolinasaintsfan on Sep 25, 2009 2:15 PM CDT reply actions

At the risk of sounding derivative...

I’m going to go with Brian of Buffalo on the score: 37-24. That sounds about right to me.

1. The Saints will trail at some point of the game.
2. The weather will not be a factor.
3. Zach Strief will score a touchdown.

That last one: I’m going to continue making that prediction until it happens. If they’re going to bring him in to play a jumbo tight end in short yardage situations, it’s inevitable that eventually they’ll throw to him.

Saints 55 Bills 17

1) Edwards throws 4 INT’s: Greer, Sharper, Gay and Porter each get one. Greer runs his back for a TD

2) PT has over 110 yards rushing with 2 TD’s, 1 at the goal line. Heath Evans also gets a goal line TD

3) Brees goes 430+ yards with 3 TD’s: each to Shockey, Colston, and a screen to Bush

Our first real SUPER blowout of the year. Go ahead, laugh at that score, I’m dead serious we’ll put up 55. Not because it’s Buffalo; they’re not bad, they do fight hard and have creative special teams, but we’re the Hottest Team in the NFL right now, and honestly NO ONE wants to face our Offense.

God, I can’t wait to see the Jets game next weekend…

Saints 48 Bills 10

Some EPSN insiders discussed what Bills offense does—lots of vertical routes. Saints will challenge the Bill’s attemtps at running the balll, and the Bills will throw deep a few times—for INTERCEPTIONS, Having NO PASS INTERFERENCE will run up the score for the Saints.

38 - 24 Saints

1. Drew Brees plays well but is disappointed with only 3 passing TDs and 300 yds
2. Both Pierre and Heath score rushing TD’s
3. The defense will not have a turnover, and will be less than impressive

by Corb on Sep 25, 2009 2:33 PM CDT reply actions

Saints 31 - Bills 20

The Saints get pinned at the 1 yard line. They hand off to Bush where he runs to the back of the endzone, beats 7 tacklers, and takes it all the way to the other 10 yard line when a freek blizzard hits in Buffalo and the game is called right before he steps into the endzone.

Saints 45 Bills 24

1) Lynell Hamilton gets a rush TD

2) Reggie gets a rec TD of 20+ yards

3) Hargrove gets 2 sacks and Greer gets INT — welcome back to Buffalo

BONUS — TO both has a drop at a crucial time and scores a meaningless TD & still showboats as Saints defenders just point to the scoreboard laughing.

by Hans Petersen on Sep 25, 2009 7:12 PM CDT up reply actions

That's the genius of it

I might be implying he’ll score on a punt return, but I also cover my bases if he scores as a WR. With Thomas, I figure Payton probably has a play for goal line situations where he’ll line up two TE’s in what looks like a run play and then have Drew go into play action and hit a wide open Thomas in the back of the endzone. It’s got to happen eventually cause defenses don’t seem to be paying much attention to him…yet.

2) Bush 100+ yards RUSHING (wet field gives him advantage), 200+ yards all purpose (rush/rec/ret), 1 TD
3) McCray 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble

I think the Saints will take advantage of the weather here, and that will surprise everyone, especially the Bills. Wet field can give an advantage to receivers, they know where the cut is, defenders have to react. Short passing game will eat the Bills defense up, missed tackles on short game will give huge YAC numbers to Saints receivers, and push Brees’ numbers up. Also, they will start to bite on short routes which will cost them at least one long TD hookup to Henderson.

From a Bills Fan: Saints 31, Bills 23

I like our chances this week but I think we lose a squeaker because we can’t punch it in and have to kick Red zone field goals.

Some food for thought:
1. The Saints will not be able to throw the ball deep. Nobody does against the Tampa 2 when it’s playing well. But Brees is smart and won’t try. He’ll paper-cut us to death.
2. Brees will throw at least 50 passes.
3. The Bills win the turnover battle.
4. This game hinges on how accurate Brees is on 3rd and 6. The Bills stop the run well and don’t allow big plays. That translates to 3rd and 6. If a QB can execute the way Brady did week 1, the Bills will lose this game. If he doesn’t execute (Leftwich last week), the Bills win. But I’d bet on Brees to execute.

Good luck this week guys. I’ll see you out on the field.

Saints 31-17

1. Weather (and to a less extent the Bills’ secondary) holds Brees to under 300 passing yards and less than 66% completions.

2. Pierre Thomas nets over 80 total yards.

3. Reggie Bush scores twice (1 rushing, 1 receiving)

"Gowin on fourth and 14 will punt it away. He hangs it very high, angling it for the near sideline...HAKIM DROPS THE BALL!!! HAKIM DROPS THE BALL!! Brian Milne might've fallen on it at the ten yard line! It's the New Orleans Saints' football! Brian Milne, the most unlikely hero of them all, falls on the fumble, the muff by Hakim! There is a God after all!" -- Jim Henderson

Saints 41 Bills 13

1. Trent Edwards wil have less than 60% qb rating

2. Saints D hold bills to less than 75 yards rushing

3. Drew will have such a good lead in the 4th quarter, they will put in Rookie, Chase Daniel to get in some quality playing time.

Reggie

Well at halftime, you can add all 3 Bills players together and they dont have as many yards as reggie

I hit on Jackson, but not the two WRs. I figured the Saints would jump out to an early lead, causing the Bills to play catch up and throw more often. Both team’s pass defenses played much better than I expected.

Football is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.
