View from Section 110-Bills' offense kinda sucks

Nice day at the Ralph, for the most part.  Lots of Who Dats in attendance.  Locals are an odd mix of very polite, very nice citizens and ugly, abusive mobs.  No beers down the back or batteries upside the head, so I guess the abusive talk is just that, talk.  But boy do they hate Archie Manning.  No kidding.  I've never been called a**hole and told I suck this much in one day in my life.

Star-divide

Great seats on the 30, 8 rows from the field, behind the Saints bench.  Got to see that rarest of events (lately), the Charles Grant sack.  Drew looked rushed and uncomfortable for most of the game, Bills bring the pressure.  Bills fans were certain that this was still a evenly matched game until the 4th quarter.  Dude, your offense hasn't even scored yet, how can you think that?  Special teams trick plays don't count.  You think your D is going to hold Drew and the Boys forever?  Things changed when PT came in, he looked awesome, like a bowling ball rolling down the lane.  Shut some people UP.  Lots of penalties, one Payton meltdown over an uncalled time out?  No one without a radio in the stadium could figure out what the dispute was about but it was obvious that Coach did not approve of the officiating.  Oh yeah, they hate Shockey too, big time.  And Reggie?  Ugly.  No respect.  Bills fans had to hear the Who Dat cheer loud and clear in the final minutes, though.  It all comes around.  Good game, good Saints D overall, patience got the job done.

More Canadians than Saints fans.

That Malcolm Jenkins strip and fumble recovery on the punt was extraordinarily awesome. Dumbass crowd was shocked into silence.

sometimes silence is the sweetest sound of all

Nice pix and thanks for the report, Stuart! Sorry about all the Archie heckling…what was that about?

Maybe they’re just insecure underneath it all, and have to cover it with baseless bravado. But at least they knew you were in Archie’s jersey?

Thanks for the pics and the narrative!!

- How could anyone dislike Archie- hard to fathom.

- I think Payton had a meltdown because the refs missed when Drew called a timeout and that forced Saints
to run a critical 3rd down play without the timeout.

- Anyone know why Payton had a meltdown with the Punter?

- Anyone know why PT didn’t start (worked out great- just curious)

- Who is “Photo Op?” (Young?)

PhotoOP

is Hamilton.

We dubbed him that cause he got to get his picture taken with Rita, his only contribution last year.

“How could anyone dislike Archie- hard to fathom.”

Growing up a Saints fan, I can think of a whole lot more to dislike about the guy, than to like about him.

Manning joke

I heard this one around 2004, thought it was especially fitting:

Archie and Eli are sitting in the Manning living room. Eli is watching SportsCenter, Archie is reading the newspaper. A disgruntled Chargers fan refers to Eli as a “prima donna” on TV. Eli turns to Archie and asks “Dad, what’s a prima donna?” Archie looks up from his paper and replies, “It’s a Latin phrase meaning legend in Mississippi, son. Now, go fetch your old man’s slippers.”

Punter

wind direction…. kick into wind, then Brees gets wind at his back, but he let clock run down, so Payton was upset, I’m guessing. PT de-hydrated ,some type of virus on Fri. It killed FF owners this wk. everybody thought he was a no factor…

Got sick so didn’t go but my friends that did say anyone with a saints jersey was called an Ahole every time they moved.

As for more Canadians then Saints fans.. there are more Canadians there then Americans. Thats why they play 1 game a year up here now.

Did see a LOT of Ontario license plates.

Like I said, it’s a mix. We walked through the parking lots before the game, it was like a gauntlet at times. After one tough area, a big guy came up to me and said “Welcome to Buffalo” with sympathy. A lot of beer talk for sure.

the Buffalo fans were kinda cocky pre game

on this website and there’s if I recall. Especially something about a great run defense. I don’t know what to think, they held our running game to under 225 or some thing!! (lol). one guy even said there’s no way they could lose to the Aints. Well, we aren’t the Aints!!

ou’d think with all those Super Bowl losses they would be a little more humble.

I think the comments were mostly about not underestimating the Bills’ pass defense even though it was ranked 31st. IIRC, the sentiment was that you all had been talking about dropping about 50 points on us. Clearly, we got dominated, but we didn’t let you do it through the air. I think our D came out with a solid plan, but the O was just abominable. * sigh *

by WhyBillsWhy on Sep 28, 2009 9:26 AM CDT up reply actions

I think you guys played a VERY solid game on the Defense side. You had to respect the pass and you shut us down in the air. Great job to your boys for that.

But your scouting report on us missed a key fact. We dont run alot cause we dont have to. By shutting us down in the air we simply moved to the ground and showed that we are a complete team.

MT

by MT_always on Sep 28, 2009 9:37 AM CDT up reply actions

I don’t know that the scouting report necessarily missed that point. We knew Bush was a danger when you get him some room. We knew Thomas was underrated. You just have to pick your poison and hope for the best. If we switch to some more run-oriented D schemes, you burn us through the air. I don’t know that there’s a lot of adjustment to be made.

The fact is, we needed to keep up with you in the point-scoring department in order to keep the game from getting out of hand. We didn’t and it did. I get so frustrated with these setbacks. It seems like we never pull a random game out against teams that are better than us. We just beat the teams we’re probably better than and call it a day. I wonder when we’re gonna take that next step.

P.S. -Please beat the Jets. They look legit and we really need to keep our divisional opponents in check. Thanks in advance.

About the Canadians: The FO is trying to expand the Canadian fan base as well as into more parts of NY. This is why we’ve got 5 regular season games in Toronto over 5 years. There are actually a surprising number of Bills fans in Canada already.

About calling you a**holes: Sorry about that. I wasn’t at the game, but I’ve been to several. People in B-lo take football seriously. They also take drinking seriously. :-) When it’s a 4pm game, they tailgaters have already been at it for 5 or 6 hours. You’ve got to admire their dedication.

About the stadium in disrepair: It’s a dump, but it’s OUR dump. Not to mention it’s completely paid off at this point. Buffalo has a declining population and we’ve never been as rich as our Manhattan brethren. Hence, why we have the lowest ticket prices in the NFL. The stadium thing is gonna be a problem in the future, but it’s hanging in there for now. Also, sorry about the bathrooms. It’s a problem, but there’s not much to do about it.

Now if only our O could’ve gotten on track, maybe that game could’ve been worth watching.

I live in TO.

So I know all about how you guys are trying to grow up here. How concerned are you about the team actually moving here?

MT

by MT_always on Sep 28, 2009 9:38 AM CDT up reply actions

Not overly. If any franchise goes away, I think it’s Jacksonville moving to LA. Canadians have the CFL. I don’t think they wanna give that up. The Argos, as I understand it, are a pretty key franchise in the CFL and I think it would do a lot of damage to them to have to compete with the NFL. Maybe that’s my optimism talking, but I know Buffalo would be burned down if the Bills moved somewhere.

Stu, thanks for representing “The 8”, my next purchase along with “The 9”. Bills fans will be close to falling on their swords soon. Guess its not their fault for being part of the “Rust Belt”..Who Dat…
