Mare is now Jim Mora Jr.'s Headache
With our newly drafted punter playing phenomenally well, and John Carney showing us that an active senior is better than all those guys we tried to replace him with, I wonder how that Olindo fellow we once traded for is doing... hmm...
Best part was Mora's postgame interview--wish I could find the video for that.

Mare is roster poison
It was only a matter of time before he blew a game for a different team. Actually, wasn’t he doing OK before this? Too bad for him. There are a few different capable kickers out there right now looking for a gig, including Grammatica and Melhaff. If Carney stays 100% accurate, Hartley may be looking for a job in week 5. I can’t decide if Hartley or Carney is the better option going forward. Carney is the veteran Pro Bowler, but only useful with kicks under 45 yards. Hartley has the bigger leg, but may not be as accurate. Hartley proved himself last year by going a perfect 13 for 13, though.
This is a great dilemma to have, I guess. We could be stuck with just one inconsistent kicker like last year and the year before. We don’t want that again.

After further thought
If Payton is confident he can keep this no.1 offense blasting away all season, Carney will probably be the better option. With Drew and this O working, if they get into a 4th down situation between the 30 and 40 they can just go for it and probably successfully convert most times. It’ll be interesting to see who our kicker is coming out the bye week.

Mare did make 4 out of 6 field goals in that game
…and if your offense doesn’t ever get in the end zone, you probably have bigger problems than a crappy kicker. Also, just saw on ESPN— Mora semi-apologizing about his reaction (but not really).
Anyway, I too think we’ll stick with Carney. He’s a freakin machine—and Morstead has enough leg for kickoffs. Hartley looked great last season, but the misses in preseason and the missed time might be enough to get him cut. Plus I think Carney gets the Saints AARP discounts for team dinners.
