Hefty Salary for complimentary player...
Is Reggie even really needed in New Orleans?
After seeing Sunday's game and the games we've played so far. I really don't know if Bush will be a Saint next year. Seriously! I know how the NFL works. Is the dude the most dynamic player in the game? Yes! Is he young still and makes some bonehead decisions? Sure. We gotta take the positive with the negative. But dude is earning a hefty paycheck. Hefty!!! And I don't know about yall but I think Papa Smurf aka Loomis might not be having that. Sure he can rearrange it and blah blah blah, but I know Reg and he can't be feeling this complimentary player stuff. I know he wants the team to win and he's a team player but he also knows that his skill -set only last for so long and in 3 or 4 years he can be running slower and no longer commanding what he gets now. Now, I'm a little ahead of myself seeing that I know Payton may just be being precautious in order to keep the dude healthy until later in the season. And it's only been 3 games... But honestly, people already have been saying it and maybe the Saints organization might be thinking, "Shoot Bell and Thomas can do this, what do we need Reggie for?" I'm just saying. Sure he commands attention and all that jazz but that's a big paycheck to disperse for a complimentary player...Let me know what you guys are thinking...

I agree with you
I’m just surprised to see this coming from YOU!
I like Reggie and I like him on the Saints, especially now that they seem to have figured out the best way to use him. It will be interesting to see what happens when contract negotiations start up.

Heard Drew
Brees has deferred some of his salary for next yr. (pretty stand up if you ask me) so some else can get paid. Maybe Reggie? I see what your saying and your not the only one,but next yr. is an un-capped $ yr. so things could go differently in money talks. I think he’ll take less to stay but one can’t be sure, and he doesn’t want to go to a losing situation, so then who else would slap down the cash to get the same Reggie we see. I like him, I want to see him stay. Greed or Championships….

Let's just enjoy this season
Winning or not winning the Super Bowl can influence this situation greatly. You make a lot of sense, but you are way ahead of yourself there.

Would love to see us work out a trade for him
Maybe work out something with the Raiders for one of their better defensive players (they have a couple of all-pro’s). Al Davis might go for it…and with JaMarcus as your QB they could hike the ball to Reggie on every play.

As of right now...
Reggie has the most all purpose yards on the team outside of Drew’s passing yards, averaging around 75 yards/game between rushing and receiving. If you want to look at performance vs. salary I think we have to take a good hard look at our defensive ends as well. Like Reggie, both Smith and Grant are among the teams 5 biggest salary cap hits. I would rather see Bobby McCray and Anthony Hargrove starting and get Spicer back before having Reggie leave. But in the end I think Reggie will have to restructure his contract in order to stay.

McCray ....
would suck as a starter.
He is a pass rush specialist and would get run over time and again
The Powderpuffs showed they COULD bring it.. give them another game and see if they do it again, if they do I may have to take their title away and give them respect to match their saleries

agreed M_T
I noticed a few times when McCray was in the game and the running play was straight at him…he missed at least two tackles when he was right there, but it seemed he was so intent on motoring towards the QB that he didn’t know how to adjust and tackle the RB.

Fine
Start Hargrove, go out in the offseason and sign a top notch DE on the free agency market, and sign a top notch OLB to play behind him, because that’s what you can get with the money we are paying these guys. $14 million and change can get a lot of good talent on the free agency market. That’s right, $14 million is what we have tied up in 2 average DEs, and if I’m not mistaken that will be ballooning up to around $17 mill next season.
Like I said, Reggie’s contract is bloated, but to put it in perspective, I’ll say it again: He is our top yardage producer in the 1st 3 games of the year. No other player has averaged 75 yards a game through 3 games. If he was rushing for that much we wouldn’t be calling for him to renegotiate. Colston isn’t averaging 75 yards/game receiving and I don’t hear anyone complaining about his production, and for the record, Colston rounds out that top 5 salary cap hits for the team this year along with Brees, Smith, Bush and Grant. So because Reggie’s 75 yards/game are done through rushing and receiving we are supposed to complain? I say we take the production any way we can get it and be happy about it.

I like your thinking VA...
And I’m not calling for him to renegotiate at all. I actually think if people quit looking at him traditionally, they’d see the dude brings it all around each game.

and I just read how McCray's playing with a back injury
that’d make it hard to drop a RB, for sure.

see that's the thing...
I don’t think Reggie is greedy, but I do think he doesn’t want to settle for being mediocre. I’ve heard the dude talk. He’s said it, “I can run between the tackles it’s just a matter of getting the opportunities…” things like that when you come from winning the Heisman and being the #2 draft pick. You’re looking to be a star. Dude is highly competitive and getting 8 carries a game isn’t going to make him happy. Blame it on “keeping him healthy…” but I’m just saying.

I think he'll restructure next year.
As much as it appears we don’t need him or whatever, and that he’s a superstar who may not be able to accept this diminished role, he must also understand that he’s really in the absolute perfect situation right now for him. He’s proven that he is, at best, a slightly above average pure running back with tons of upside in the other phases of his game. He’s playing on a team that is currently playing championship-caliber football, and knows exactly how to use him. He looks like he has no problem with his role right now(as in he doesn’t seem “pouty”, like some other superstars), and he is positively affecting the outcomes of games. The first one sucked, but he’s picked up since then, and made a couple of real impact plays in the last two weeks. He may be less great than his draft position, but what first-round offensive skill player isn’t? He still has the hearts and minds in N.O., even if there are a few haters out there(I’m looking at you, Wilkerson).
On the flipside, as much as I think we don’t really need him to win games, I think he helps. A lot, some weeks. And I would hate to have to go up against him on another team. Also, he would have to consider how much he really wants to sacrifice to be the high-priced superstar of some miserable team that would pay him. Do you think he imagines he would fare really well behind Oakland’s O-line? Or KC’s? Or Washingtons? And what if Tampa or Atlanta decided to go for him?

Nah someone like like the Pats would pick him up...
And you’re right I’d hate to see him on another team, but it’s like Phil said I’m getting waaay ahead of myself. We’re just a quarter into the season and who knows what his load will look like, if he’s healthy around game 10.

...REGGIE...REGGIE...REGGIE
Do yall remember chanting his name? What happend to us. Why have we turned our backs on a piece of this puzzle that is just as important as any other piece. Defenses key on Reggie Bush period. Defenses know were Reggie is at either on or off the field because they know that if they don’t we will be chanting his name. I am a Saints fan and i would stand behind any decision they make on this but i believe that coach P and Mickey understand what they have in Reggie and are pleased in the player he is becoming.
Trade him? What would be Reggie’s trade value ? Mabye a third round pick and a no-name lineman or defensive back. I say keep Reggie and let him do what Reggie does best. Scare Defenses into making crucial mistakes.

Totally agree...
I’m the biggest Reggie homer alive (I have to be) I’m just saying this might be the reality. I’m not suggesting we trade him just observing.

I think Mc Cray is underestimated
We all know he can pass rush, but I think to say he would get run over and over again is exaggerating. He got major playing time last year when Grant was out and it wasn’t all passing downs and he did fine.

I think he'll restructure
I think in the back of his mind he knows he’s making too much right now. I don’t think anyone except for our leaders, Brees on offense and Vilma on defense should be making that much money. I don’t see Reggie consenting to a trade unless it’s a championship calliber team who would use him in the right way. I would have said the Colts untill I saw Brown last week on MNF. He looked good for them but Reggie would’ve fit right in there. Anyways, I don’t want to lose Reggie even if it means we have to pay him that much but we can look on the bright side and say that Grant/Smith are still here after not earning their big paychecks the past 2 years.

OK
Remember when we traded Pat Swilling cause of his lack luster of sacks and tackles in his last year.
That was because he was allways blocked by two or three players from the other team. If Reggie just for being in the game takes 2-3 players to watch him even before the ball is snapped the Saints win. Thats 2-3 players not guarding other players or doing their assignments. I say keep him. Play him at all kinds of positions WO-Slot-RB ETC:

Have to Agree with TAY
the chances of Pay-Loo paying probowl money for a situational player is slim. one of two things has to happen in order for the Saints not to part ways with Reggie:
1) Reggie has a horrid year, and his ego is hurt enough to take less money to stay. (which means we get him at a bargain price)
2) Reggie has a breakout year, and Pay-Loo decides to cough up enough money to keep him.(which means his salary will probably still be large)
A mediocre year or another year plagued with injuries will ultimately result in Pay-Loo and Reggie parting ways.
Dud has spoken.

Do you think...?
Do yall think that if Coach used Reggie as a Wes Welker type route runner, could he be a pro bowler?

I've
always promoted using him as a wide out more, and it looks like theyre doin it more now.

how about if we win the Superbowl and Reggie..
doesn’t put up hall of fame statistics but “merely” contributes heavily in rushing yards, passing receptions, TDs, return yards, and constantly makes defensive coordinators pull their hair out converning themselves with Breescolstonbushbellmeachemmooreshockeythomasmeachemhendersonarringtonhamiltonthomasevanshill????

I think he still has def coordinators planning against him
now with the run game getting some play, he’ll be a little more free. The Jets are a defensive team for sure but I have a feeling they aren’t going to focus on him as much and slip up. Each game he’s getting better. I predict 10 carries for 70 yards with a punt return and 6 receptions for 50 yards. Watch! But if he keeps getting limited touches idk. He’ll break one for a return sooner or later, teams are just really preparing for him…

i agree
that Ryan won’t prep so much for Reggie this game. He’ll just tell his players to make sure they cover their assignments. I could see Reggie/Drew really taking advantage of someone on this defense with a pumpfake. Get him to run out 7 yards, run towards a sideline, pumpfake kinda close to the sideline then let Reggie turn towards the endzone where he’ll only have to beat 1-2 guys.

Now remember
In the 2006 game. The Ravens, under Rex-bag, did pretty well considering against the Saints. They completely shut down the run, and although Brees threw for 383yds and 3 Tds he also threw 3 picks. Reggie had 21 yds on 9 touches. So it looks like Rex-bag can shut Reggie down if he focuses on him (didn’t he put Scott on him that game?) However, we threw the long ball well against the Ravens when they fo cused on Reggie. The jets will have to pick there poison. Its just what they commit to as to wether Reggie has a big day or not. They may want to let Reggie catch dumpoffs and such rather than giving up bombs too devrey and colston when they blitz. This jets team can’t put up as many points as that Ravens team I dont think.

would like to see....
Game 2 – Bell
Game 3 – PT
Game 4 – Bush!
You know the Jets are going to watch the film on the Bills game.
Hmm.. they have to respect Colsten.
Ut oh, they got to keep a guy on the Shock.
Damn safety support on top for Henderson
Hey Coach Ryan…. we are running outta DBs here and we still got both Bush and PT to cover. If Bush swings out we are going to have to put a LB on him.
I think we are going to see our O move the ball at will against these Jets.
I thnk we are going to see a huge game for Bush.
