What's going on with Stanley Arnoux?

According to the Saints' website, he's not on the active roster, and he's not on injured reserve. Did he simply never sign a contract with the Saints? Is he on the PUP list? With all the recent roster activity, he seems to have fallen off the face of the Earth.

Anybody know?

He hadn't signed

before he got hurt. They’re going to have to do something there. Otherwise, his agent will wind up filing a grievance and it will get ugly. They’re probably waiting until the Grant/Smith situation sorts itself out. That will give them a roster hole to move him in and out of. If the suspensions are overturned, they’ll have to figure out another way to shuffle him through to IR. I’m not sure why they didn’t just get this over with after letting Harrington go early, prior to the actual 53 man deadline. Maybe Arnoux’s agent is on vacation or too busy dealing with other (healthy) players who just got released. I know he’s not making jack right now, so it shouldn’t be too long before the pot boils over.

Coldpizza

you know you really have a wealth of knowledge, especially in certain areas, and in that way you are a great asset to CSC. But I also think you have a knack of pissing people off for no apparent reason and it just seems that things would be better if more people would feel comfortable throwing things out there for you to contribute to in this forum…. and not have to deal with whether or not you are going to be in an “attack” mode. That may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but hopefully you get my drift. We are all Who Dats at heart.

He should...

thank his folks for giving him access to Saints’ history and be humble about it. Having that kind of legacy and keep nurrishing on it in a very condescendant way is close to a criminal offense…

Seriously, behave!

I haven’t attacked anyone. If you feel threatened by me, ignore me. I’d offer the same advice to anyone that is taken back with anything I post.

Here's your answer, M-E
The Saints signed fourth-round draft choice Stanley Arnoux to a four-year deal Monday, but he will spend the season on injured reserve after tearing an Achilles tendon during the rookie minicamp in May. Here’s the team’s press release:

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the team has signed linebacker Stanley Arnoux, the second of their two fourth-round draft choices this spring, to a four-year contract and plan to place him on injured reserve. The rookie out of Wake Forest suffered a torn Achilles in a rookie minicamp practice in May and will miss the 2009 season.

Here’s the Times-Pic link.

How did they

sign him to a contract with no roster vacancies?

Who cares?

[ breathes sigh of relief ] Just so long as the deal is done. I didn’t want to see Arnoux somehow slip through the cracks.

I care

that’s why I asked. Mainly just wondering if I missed a roster transaction. Maybe it’s just as long as you don’t exceed 53 players by the end of each business day or something along those lines. The only way Arnoux could have slipped through the cracks is if he would’ve remained unsigned all year. In that case, he could have been redrafted. He probably feels he still has a chance to compete for an OLB spot here next season. That and I’d imagine it would be a b*tch to limp around looking for a non-football job in the meantime. If it was a hand injury or something a little less minor and the Saints were stacked at the position, he may have had better options.

My guess...

is they signed him and immediately listed him as on the IR so he wouldn’t count against the roster. I’m sure it must be something along those lines.

“or something a little less minor”

make that “less major” (than an Achilles).

PUP

Is there still the Physically unable to Perform(PUP) or is that another sport, no info in front of me, or is it just the IR?

You think you know, and you don't know, and you never, ever will know..Jim Mora Sr.

Yeah the PUP should have been an option if they thought there was any chance of him recovering by the seventh week of the season. I’m pretty sure he’d qualify under the rules as I understand them at least. I guess they don’t think he’ll be recovered enough to do this.

I wonder why

they didn’t use the PUP for Vaughn. Wasn’t he supposed to be pretty close to fully recovered?

I think the PUP is only for players who were injured before the start of training camp. But I’m not 100% sure on that.
