Saints coach Sean Payton says he'll plan on playing Will Smith and Charles Grant this Sunday against Detroit -- unless the NFL tells the club the defensive ends' suspensions are enforceable.

I'll say it again...
the NFL has made a farce of this. Teams need to know how to proceed with their pre-seasons, their roster cuts, their opening day plans. This affect so many people- such as Spicer and Pressley, etc , not just Smith and Grant, just to name a couple. it stinks like rotten goodell cheese.

Just think
if they both play, then Goodell comes back, claims that he made it perfectly clear to Saints officials that they were to have served their suspensions — i.e., a communication breakdown — and strips us of the victory after the fact, like they do in college when a team uses an ineligible player. Can you imagine the fallout? Do you think Benson would immediately clean house in that situation?

That would be
the most glaringly inconsistent punitive measure imaginable for Goodell to make, possible only if he truly didn’t care about the fallout from his small market franchises AT ALL. Not to beat a dead horse too much, but if the Pats can keep victories which put them deep in the playoffs after flagrantly and unapologetically cheating, then how would Goodell take an earned win away for a blameless miscommunication over a trifling wang-measuring dispute between the NFL and NFLPA?
