Saints @ Panthers: Game Predictions
Hard to believe we've already reached the final regular season edition of our weekly prediction contest.
Before we start with this weeks predictions, let's give it up to last weeks winner, Miagi Say You lose, who ran away with it. Here were the three correct guesses that got him the big W.
1. Both teams combine for 275+ rushing yds
2. Both teams combine for 500+ yds passing
3. Game winning FG of 40+ yds with 3 mins or less left in game
Of course, here is your contractually obligated picture of a Saintsation.
But it's a new week now and everyone starts fresh. Make your three predictions for this Sunday's Saints game against the Panthers. Now!

Saints 28 Pampers 18
Mike Bell leads all rushers in yards per carry.
Matt Moore is sacked greater than two times.
Saints defense creates greater than one turnover.
Brees gonna throw down the Saints... Wide open Devery Henderson! Nobody's within twenty yards of him! He could do the backstroke into the end zone from there! And he'll take it in for a seventy-five yard touchdown strike!

Miagi wins the one in front?
Okay, I’ve got to really try this time. Wait, I’d only get a crawfish and a Dixie. Aw, hell…
Okay:
1. Brees plays only in the first half.
2. Brunell’s passer rating is higher than Brees’.
3. There WILL be another serious injury…probably defensive or on the offensive line. And Payton will be criticized even though he tried to rest as many players as he could. The man can’t win. (Except games. And Super Bowl championships. Here’s hoping, at least. Gotta think of a segue out of this. Ah, I have it…)
Bonus prediction: Game ends in a low-scoring tie. Probably won’t, but if I get this one right it will be epic.
BURN THE BLACK PANTS!!!
my 3 guesses for the game are these:
1) M-E screams “Gaaaa!!” at least once in the first quarter.
2) M-E pays at least $10 for parking. Him screaming “Gaaa!” at the parking attendant doesn’t count in #1.
3) M-E finds the Panther faithful to be mostly nice to his wife and him. (my grammar alarm is ringing, but I don’t how to fix this sentence…)
final score:

I don't know if it's quite fair to change predictions
Those who waited were smart to wait. But if it’s allowed, I wish to change some of mine.
1. Brunell’s passer rating will be higher than Moore’s.
2. The Saints will have a special teams touchdown…just to further cause conflicted feelings about our special teams.
My third prediction remains the same.

Saints 27 Panthers 24
1. Brunell passes for at least 100 yards.
2. Brees gets his completion percentage record.
3. Garrett Hartley hits all of his kicks during the game.
27-16 Panthers
1. Hartley attempts at least 3 FG’s
2. Panthers rush for 150 yards or more
3. Drew Brees plays less than half the Saints’ snaps
Saints 30 Panters 10
1) Grants has 2+ sacks
2) The Panthers rush for LESS than 125 yds
3) Adrian Arrington gets activated from the Taxi Squad
You gotta go there to come back
I'll be pleasantly surprised if the Saints win (I think)
Panthers 28 Saints 20
My HOPEFUL predictions that result in a Panthers win:
1. Only key starters with no injuries play for a limited amount of time (no more than a half).
2. No Saint sustains a significant injury or further hampers an existing injury.
3. Saints lead at half time.
I say I “think” I’ll be pleasantly surprised with a victory by meaning I don’t want to trade a critical injury for a win in an otherwise meaningless game.
Panthers 24, Saints 20
1. Brunell throws AT LEAST one touchdown pass.
2. Carolina runs for more than 150 yards.
3. Hartley hits AT LEAST two field goals.
"Gowin on fourth and 14 will punt it away. He hangs it very high, angling it for the near sideline...HAKIM DROPS THE BALL!!! HAKIM DROPS THE BALL!! Moore and Stewart play spoiler, dominating once again. Moore in 3 consecutive games out plays the NFLs best QBs in Farve, Manning and Brees. Carolina once again shows the NFC South who their Daddy is.

You guys crack me up...
…first of all, how can Moore out play Brees when Brees is SITTING ON THE BENCH?
Secondly, “who their Daddy is”? Really? What freakin’ version of reality are YOU living in?
The Panthers are fighting to make it to .500 right now, the Saints TCB all year, and are sitting on a 13 win record, they’ve COASTED the past month and still split their games.
It’s guys like YOU around here that make me hope that the Saints backups and practice squad BURY the Panthers tomorrow.
I still don’t think they will, but I will love it if it comes down that way.
Panthers fans are so butt-hurt right now that it’s pathetic, and I should know I live amongst them day in and day out.

Obviously you haven't watched football this December
You guys are 2-2 against Washington, Atlanta, Dallas and Tampa Bay. The Panthers are 3-1 against New England, Minnesota, Tampa Bay and the Giants. Having just outscored MIN and NYG 67 to 16! The Panthers are playing MUCH better than you right now.
To be honest, I hope you guys lose tomorrow, but then pull things together and win a Superbowl. Partly because I really like Drew Brees, and also so we can whoop up on Superbowl Champs in 2010 ;)
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
I've watched a lot of football this December....
….let me help you sort it out:
The Saints SECURED THEIR DIVISION ON 11/30 for all intents and purposes – they were 5 games up on Atlanta with 5 games left.
When is the last time anyone saw the Saints run a 4-wide set on offense? Last time I remember any serious attempt to use it was in the MNF game against the Patriots. Think about that.
When is the last time anyone saw the entire starting defense or offense on the field? Guess when the NEXT time will be.
The Saints have been COASTING for the past 4 weeks, and went 2-2 during that time, the Panthers have been playing BALLS-OUT and gone 3-1. Good for you guys. Hope that keeps you warm at night, while you’re watching the Saints in the post season….

Ok so you are right
How you play in December has nothing to do with how you play in the playoffs
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
Last year
the Steelers went 3-1 in December, barely beating the Ravens (some would say they really didn’t) and the Cowboys. They won the Super Bowl.
In 2007, the Giants went 3-2 in December, including 1-2 in their final 3 games and 0-2 at home. They won the Super Bowl.
In 2006, the Indianapolis Colts went 2-3 in December, winning only in the comfortable confines of their dome. They won the Super Bowl outside, in the rain.
In 2002, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went 3-2 in December. They won the Super Bowl.
Late season skids are commonplace (usually caused by the wear and tear of a successful season), and don’t indicate much of anything. I know you can come up with teams that went into the postseason hot as pistols (like the 16-0 2007 Patriots, for instance), and that doesn’t indicate much of anything, either. Teams win or lose depending on a lot of factors.
BURN THE BLACK PANTS!!!
Taints 14, Panthers 28

Stewart takes over 2nd half and scores 2TD

I'll be your huckleberry- Doc Holliday to Ringo
Truth is you guys started the season better than anyone
But in December you are 2-2 playing horrible. The Panthers are 3-1 in Dec despite having a much tougher schedule. We will be watching you in the playoffs, and I’ll even be pulling for Brees… I really like the guy. But it is clear who the better team is right now and tomorrow will confirm that.
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
Tomorrow won't confirm a thing
since we’re playing our 2nd and 3rd teams. It won’t decide anything, either. That was all decided long ago, and y’all had your chances the same as we did.
Last year was your year; this year is our year. Next year? Who can say?
BURN THE BLACK PANTS!!!
Fair enough
I just don’t understand why you guys would rest starters the entire game. That is typically a formula that doesn’t work. Plus you need a win to restore some friggin momentum.

The cats play great in Dec. you guys will be oh I dont know 8&8. Not enough to get you to the playoffs . AWW!!!!!!!!

Let 'em play great in December...
…I’m more interested in seeing a team play great in January and Feburary.
Guess who’s team AIN’T gonna have a chance to do THAT?
:-)
I’m really not that concerned here, SP has been resting anyone with the slightest nick or sniffle since 11/30, he’s been playing with about half the offensive playbook.
They may go one-and-done, but that will utterly surprise me. I think he’s been getting ’em ready for the playoffs since December 1st, and it will show when they start playing meaningful games again.

I thimk this will be a statement game going in to the playoffs i dont see Drew Brees coming out early
1.Drew Brees throws for 3+ td’s
2. Robert Meachum scores atleast once
3.Will Smith gets 2+ sacks
after the game they give McCray a 7 days sober pin
Ok lets make an gametime adjustment Saints 31 Panthers 17
1.Chase Daniels throws 2+ td’s
2.Roby catches atleast 1 td
3.Will smith gets 2+ sacks
Bonus-Aujen Cajun ends up enjoying the game after all after spending all that money on tickets he realizes the Saints back ups are better then the Panther starters
Panthers 31 Saints 27
Hamilton scores 1+ TD.
Daniels takes at least one snap.
Saints D has 2+ interceptions.
Saints 24 Panthers 27
1) Brees hands the ball to Lynell Hamilton three times, puts a hat on and coaches the rest of the game.
2) Brunell has 2 TD, 1 INT, 200+ yards passing
3) Hamilton has 100+ yards rushing
BONUS: pantherfan95323 spends the offseason telling everyone how great the Panthers are because they beat the team that won the Super Bowl to finish their season.
Irony: An atheist Saints fan.
UPDATE
Gotta change predictions, based on the fact that the Saints have decided to START Brunell, and Bress is listed as the #3 (emergency) QB behind Daniel.
1) Brunell plays 1st half, 100+ passing, 1 TD, 1 INT
2) Daniel plays 2nd half, under 100 yards passing, 1 TD 0 INT
3) Hamilton has 100+ yards rushing
Score and bonus predictions remain the same.

hahahaha!
the saints won’t win the SB, might make it, but won’t win. San Diego and Indy are way better teams. Current team that can compete with SD are the Vikings (in my opinion of course) they are similar teams, SD might have the advantage in ST area. Drew Brees is one hell of a QB and the squad is amazing when it’s working but throw Brees off his game and everything falls apart. I would congratulate any NFC South team to win the SB but it’s not going to happen this year. Plus now I heard Brunell was starting, this isn’t even a real game now, it’s going to be all Panthers and see who on 2nd and 3rd team can make 1st team next year. With the sitting of Brees the saints are going on cruise control into the playoffs, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing for a team that will lose 3 straight going in to the playoffs.

Oh Man, I want to be in that number; when the SAINTS go marching in. (To Miami) WHODAT
ST - maybe the better team is the team who has first round bye, won the NFC South, has homefield advantage
how the Panthers are playing now is, well basically , irrelevant. You will still be watching the playoffs and we will be participating. We took care of business early and lost our hunger which is not surprising. The only thing that counts is we get healthy and play well in the playoffs. Sundays game doesn’t matter to us- we are starting Brunell and sitting PT , Colston, etc. It’s your super bowl, it’s not anything to us. If we had the choice, we would pass on it.

Actually, it's the teams that play well in December that play well in the playoffs
And resting starters doesn’t help a team win… It just protects the coach from the humiliation of losing a player to injury.
I’ll be fair though… You guys are a MUCH better team this year than the Panthers. HOWEVER the Panthers are the much better team right now, and the way they are playing would probably make a deeper playoff run. But we ruined our opportunity earlier in the season.
So you guys are in, and I hope since you won’t have opportunity to figure things out on the field, that you figure it out mentally, and make a run at the playoffs. I’ll pull for you against anyone but MIN.

Interesting to me, anyway.
I like it when fans of other teams come here with valid insights and criticisms. Open discussion is great. Trash talking? I don’t get it. I never have. What’s the appeal in coming to someone else’s place and boasting of something which hasn’t happened yet and which you can’t influence in any way? Most of the time you just wind up looking foolish. Is that its appeal?
