Defensive line lineup against the Cards...

I know all of us are somewhat unsure who will fill Grant's spot on the defensive line this Saturday, but I was wondering what some of you thought might be a possible lineup. Personally, I think DeMario Pressley and Sedrick Ellis at DT and Will Smith and Anthony Hargrove at DE, with a generous amount of Bobby McCray and Jeff Charleston mixed in. I thought Pressley played outstanding last week against the Panthers and think that he and Ellis make a formidable DT tandem.

Also, do you think with both Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter back and healthy that Darren Sharper will be able to roam the defensive backfield as he was earlier in the season? Will Roman Harper be able to move up into the box and blitz as he was? These types of formations and plays, in my opinion, were what made our defense what it was during the first 6 games of the season.

Presselys done a great job this year

What exactly are we losing with Grant? 400 lbs off the line is about it. I for one love Charleston. He gives 110% every play bc unlike fat @ss he’s playing to keep his job and earn his 475,000.

Hargrove has looked pretty good this season.

Moving him from Tackle to DE might be what the line has been missing. He’s hungry for playing time and has the skill set in his natural position to make some plays.

Is Hargrove quick enough to play DE?

Fat, dumb, and happy. Hell, two out of three ain't bad!

It’s his natural position. He looked pretty good at it in preseason and only moved inside because we needed him because of the lack of other top options there.

Didn't know he started at DE. Thanks.

Apart from the "110% effort" and "comeback player status",

Hargrove is also not a whole lot smaller than Grant, and he’s been playing at DT all season, which was a switch from his chosen position. He is unquestionably quicker than Grant(this year, anyway), but he brings essentially the same skill-set as Grant. He’s a good bull-rusher, and he can play the run from the end, which is something we could’ve used out of Grant all season. I really hope he gets a lot of rotation at DE, and then at DT on 3rd-and-longs, with McCray or Charleston rotating in at DE for those. I’d rather like to avoid seeing Spicer at all, unless he’s got one good game in him, ala McKenzie vs. New England.

And Statwise

Tony Hargrove had 5 sacks this year, with a lot of his time being at DT. Grant had 5.5 sacks. I think Tony will take advantage of this opportunity!

Thanks much, y'all. Since I can't "see" the games on my computer I rely on the feedback from CSC to get the whole picture.

As usual you seem to have your collective fingers on the pulse of the team and give out good information to us “foreigners.” Keep up the good work!

it must be tough not getting to watch your favorite team. fortunately, you won’t have to anymore. on gameday, just go to atdhe.net and scroll down to find the saints game(there are a whole bunch of links on the website and the saints game vs. whoever they play will be one of those links). click on that link and you will have your viewing pleasure. :)

I actually like Charles Grant

But the shakeup his injury has caused to the D-line may go down as a good thing in the long run. Wouldn’t be surprised if a more speed-oriented attack generates more pressure from the edge.

i'm going to give my lineup for this week

Smith, Ellis, Hargrove, McCray. I went with this because we’re playing the Cardinals. They’re goign to pass it alot and we HAVE to have pressure on Warner to win I think.

Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!

by skinnykinney on Jan 11, 2010 4:47 PM CST reply actions

I’ll go with at ( LE) Mc Cray (DT) Hargrove (DT) Ellis (RE) Smith and my (DB’S) Greer , Porter, Harper, Sharper. (LB’S) Vilma , Shanle and Fujetta. they need to bring back Mike Mc Kenzie for more depth at (DB). the key to winning this game is to stop the run first at the point of contact, they will be trying to get there running game going right off the bat, then they will try to take shots down field, once our (DB’S) start to cheat up to help in the run support. its going to be very important that our front four do two thing’s,CLOG middle and PRESSURE the outside. once you getting some hits on Warner and get in his head, you can ride him all night long. he is just like Romo, we gave him to much time.

by KENTROO'S on Jan 11, 2010 6:08 PM CST reply actions

I think we should start Smith, Big Sed, Pressely/Ayodele, and Hargrove

at first in case they try to establish run. Then as they focus on passing switch Hargrove to DT and McCray/Spicer to DE. Who are our best run stopping DTs in y’alls opinion? Who are our best pass rushing DEs in y’alls opinion?

by ReggieVilma on Jan 11, 2010 8:09 PM CST reply actions

finally

someone mentions Ayodele. I like this kid and I think that he will have some playing time and do well in the next game

by Saintsfan75 on Jan 13, 2010 4:07 AM CST up reply actions

McCray

is hurt. He’s been having back problems, and it shows in his miserable tackle and sack totals this year. Don’t expect magic out of our pass rush just by inserting our “rush specialist.” Hargrove is a better bet…and he may even be better than McCray even when McCray is healthy.
