I have found it very comforting that Drew Brees' passer rating actually goes up to 111 when other teams blitz. It's pretty good on non - blitzing downs, but 111 vs the blitz is like- well maybe that's why the Eagles and other teams didn't blitz. Statistically, it becomes an opportunity. In fact, who is it that blitzed this season and was effective vs the Saints? The only team that really beat the Saints was Dallas and they got pressure with 4. To me, that means that Minnesota's key to victory is to get pressure on Brees with a 4 man rush. And, for the record, they are capable of doing that ( provided that Edwards plays AND is healthy). They have a good 4 man front. If they do, it could be very tough, but I also think Payton (and Brees- in tandem) are so excellent at making adjustments and not going down the same road all night. If it starts out sour, it will turn. But, I think over the past 4 years this QB and these O-lineman have shown they, along with the help from the game plan and/or pass protection help in the form of RBs and TE/FBs, have proven that they can handle any 4 man rush. If they need 5, they'll have 5. If it takes six, they get 6. If it takes 7, they will still have receivers who can either get open, or catch high passes vs. short defenders, or they have receivers who can catch passes short side -opposite. They also are very good at avoiding/preventing the rush and doing things to counteract it such as screens, reverses, and hot routes, etc. Fortunately for the Saints, they have the offensive personnel ( when healthy), to counter many, most or maybe all of the things defenses throw at them. It just has to be a night when Payton is "ON." He's been on all season and we are home. That's a great thing. Again, Minnesota is formidable- they could sack Brees a couple of times. But I just don't see a 6 sack night on the horizon and that's what it would take (inmo) for the Saints offense to get stifles by the Vikings. As far as Saints defense vs Vikings defense, that's a different story and I will post later on that, but sufice it to say, if it's a shootout in the dome, I like our chances. We get more turnovers and our 12th ( and 13th) man will take over.
