The National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane warning for New Orleans!
Hurricane Brett is expected to make landfall on Sunday the 24th! It appears that the Superdome is most likely to get hit the hardest. After hurricane Brett has left the area watch the skies above New Orleans as they turn different shades of Purple and Gold. Please stay tuned for further developments!
Just got this picture and above paragraph in an email. What do you think? How does this make you feel?

When asked by the dental office receptionist if she would please take a picture of Brett Farve at the game, suzjo4 replied “Yeah I’ll take a picture of him on his BACK on the Superdome floor. How’s that??”
Misrepresented that quote to Giselle, it was suzjo4 who actually did say “F da Wikings!”

Oh I’ll be getting my ass kicked sometime because of her, for sure.
No, I do not feel that good

...
Those who never experienced the horrifying events of Katrina will never understand it. I try not to let it get to me…
But man, that totally lacks tact.
"HOT BOUDIN! COOOOOLD COUS COUS, COME ON TIGAHS, PUSH PUSH PUSH!"
tactless
Like, "Saints are gonna bust your ass like the I-35W bridge collapse." That’s not funny at all. Maybe it’s my delivery.

And that's 13 horrific deaths...
not 2,000.
"HOT BOUDIN! COOOOOLD COUS COUS, COME ON TIGAHS, PUSH PUSH PUSH!"
PS:
Just as LSU’s uniforms are not “purple and gold”, nor are the vikings’ colors.
That’s yellow.
pure and simple.

With such an odd shaped eye, that storm is totally unstable.
It’s guaranteed to dissipate before it can even make landfall.
Brees gonna throw down the Saints... Wide open Devery Henderson! Nobody's within twenty yards of him! He could do the backstroke into the end zone from there! And he'll take it in for a seventy-five yard touchdown strike!

And why the hell is it that every time we get to an NFC championship game, our opponent's fans think it's cool to bring Katrina up?

I think the Saints will see a disaster (the Vikings) move into New Orleans on Sunday, Brett will definately make landfall, and they seem too forget its a night game, so the skies might be purple and gold during pregame, but will be black and gold by games end

How would you feel if a Saints fan posted such an image and our board rallied around it
Completely tactless as well.
I find it no worse than the fact that some of the options in our nickname voting were “the Perfect Storm” and “Category 5.” It just calls the Vikings a hurricane about to hit New Orleans, and doesn’t mention Katrina.
1) Stand Up 2) Get Crunk 3) ????? 4) PROFIT!!!
Yes, let’s never make reference to Hurricane Katrina again. Except in water cooler conversation and on local radio talk shows at least a dozen times a day. That way it’s like it never happened.

The Miami Hurricanes
didn’t change their name after Hurricane Andrew devistated that area. Just a thought.
We live in a world
Where Scott Baio just had to profusely apologize and try to prove he isn’t a racist because he posted a twitter image of an angry Michelle Obama and said “Wow, he has to wake up to this”

But in seriousness, making light of a disaster is very classless, regardless of how you or any other Saints fans take it. Just know that most Vikings fans aren’t like that.

F you too
And I didn’t get mugged and raped on the way to work.
Now, Now...
I understand the “F you too” comment because DBMC wrote “f them,” but the remainder of your comment was totally uncalled for. Hurricanes and snowfall are acts of weather that man has no control over. Someone being mugged and raped is a completely controlling act of man. And my response would be “Good for you” on behalf of those unfortunate people that actually have and will get mugged and/or raped on the way to work (not just in NOLA, but anywhere.) Hope you feel good about yourself…

I'm not that offended by it
Katrina jokes are classless, but I hate to give something like this a second more of thought than it deserves. I think it’s poor form, but I also can’t expect those people to understand what me, my family and friends went through because of Katrina. I don’t expect them to understand that I had to make my home in Virginia because of Katrina and that while I’d love to move back under ideal circumstances, I can’t. The pain that comes with what I experienced, and to what we all experienced with Katrina to a certain degree isn’t changed (for better or for worse) because of this stupid thing above. I will say, though, that Karma has a way of working things out. I’m a big believer in that, that you reap what you sow. I think whoever sent you that picture Dave will get his in time.

How many sports bloggers have used the phrase “drinking the Kool-Aid” without thinking twice? Hell, I made reference to it yesterday as a poor man’s substitute for the Purple Turtle and several of you LOLed or rec’d it. What if the relative of a victim of the 1978 People’s Temple massacre were to read that? Would that not conjure up painful memories? OMG, “Purple Turtle” is even kinda sorta spelled like “People’s Temple”. How classless would that be? Katrina was over four years ago. How soon is “too soon”, exactly? I lost both an aunt and a co-worker in the storm. I respect their memory, I would never go out of my way to bring up their deaths OR Katrina in front of one of their loved ones … but to avoid the topic all together at the risk of upsetting someone you don’t know is a bit ridiculous, imo. At the same time, I’m not going to photo shop a graphic of Braylon Edwards and Lito Sheppard lying beneath WTC rubble, with the headline “BURY THE JETS”. With the airliner reference, it’s difficult to brush that off as a non-9/11 related jab. Hurricanes, on the other hand, bear down on the Gulf Coast three or four times a decade, easy. Far more than 2,000 people have died of the West Nile virus over the years. Should we stop mentioning mosquitoes? I guess all I’m saying is, while everyone should have SOME sense of tact, there’s really no need to tiptoe around on eggshells every time some remotely controversial topic comes to light. Especially when it’s all in the name of good fun (a GAME). If you can’t deal with the inevitable associations most people are going to draw between hurricanes, mosquitoes, crime, political corruption, sexual relations with cousins, bad Dennis Quaid accents, etc., with New Orleans, then you probably live in the wrong part of the country. Thicken up that epidermis, holmes. Something.

And we can't expect you to understand
what it’s like to be driving to work and have a bridge collapse. So we’re not offended by your board mocking it.
Where is it being mocked??
Read his post again. He says "Tactless. Like, “Saints are gonna bust your ass like the I-35W bridge collapse.” That’s not funny at all. Maybe it’s my delivery. He says saying that would be tactless and not funny. The “maybe it’s my delivery” note is meant more as a dig at himself in my opinion. Other than that the only reference I see is comparing the death tolls. Sorry..maybe I missed something but I don’t see any mocking regarding the bridge incident.

That was utterly classless
I mean, I didn’t even go through Katrina, and had left the area years beforehand. But I saw the twin spans afterwards (in pictures at least). I know what people in that area went through, to at least some degree. Anybody who would make a joke like that is heartless and clueless. I don’t expect them to fully understand. Heck I don’t either, I wasn’t there. But a tiny bit of sympathy is in order from ANY actual human being. The designer of this doesn’t qualify.
Now I’ll also agree with other people that it’s not really offensive. Tasteless. Classless. Idiotic. Yes, yes, and yes. But offensive is an over-abused buzzword with no real meaning anymore, and anybody who wastes their time being offended is only hurting themselves.
But it’s still utterly classless and very, very rude. After this, the only fair and adequate karmic repayment would be for Brett and company to leave utterly humiliated. I hope we get to witness that.

Yes its tasteless, but
I do feel that NOLA natives can refrence it how they wish without being seen as tasteless. Having never been to NOLA I would never do it myself so yes this person and others show great disrespect. Maybe its the reference of a specific event as opposed to a strong weather system in general. There are the Miami Hurricanes and other such teams around. The point being, they arent calling themselves the Miami Katrinas so maybe thats the difference. Here in Kansas we reference tonados all the damn time in the military, school teams etc. But I do side with the locals because I know I would be offended if I had the Greenwich tonado that whiped out an entire town (and it still is nothing but a blip compared to the devastation of Katrina) thrown in my face. To sum up my rambling, others should show some respect and the locals should take pride in surviving and thriving after something happens to them.

the red headed step child of the 2009 season
I’m pretty sure that when SportsCenter has a segment that completely ignores one of the teams in the game to focus on “OMG oldest quarterback in a championship game OMG gunslinger,” the team that is ignored is more worthy of the term “red-headed stepchild” than the one getting all the airtime.
Or how an ESPN reporter said that maybe it should be New Orleans musicians making team songs instead of Prince. Because we’re not important enough to check that there actually have been a ton made.
That kind of media bias keeps you from being able to use the term “red-headed stepchild” unless you’re particularly a fan of lying.

The one commonality the bridge collapse deaths and a large portion of Katrina deaths share is
both were due to infra-structure decay rather than natural disaster. Your tax dollars at work.
I thought the large portion of the Katrina deaths
were due to people not leaving the area. While infra-structure decay had a hand in the flooding that caused most if not all of the deaths, if people had left the lowest areas there would have had markedly fewer deaths. Of course, I think it would be classless to use a reference to any natural disaster in the context of a game in a pathetic attempt to hype up my fan base, but that’s just me.
"The Saints made the right decision signing Drew Brees-not just in terms of his arm, but because of his heart and mind." - Marshall Faulk
infra-structure decay rather than a natural disaster?
thousands upon thousands of cars were flooded, we saw them all over the city…brain-decay on the owners part for not getting in them and carrying 6 people out of the mess…getting hit by a hurricane is like getting attacked by a SNAIL….the only infra-structure decay would be the school busses and city busses etc… that did not carry in-firmed and transportationless people out…
Gris Gris Man, Voodoo Surgeon General and Master of Witch Doctory

I’m not trying to compare the deaths on the bridge and the drowning deaths as common in forseeability. Obviously, a hurricane bearing down on your area allows ample time to evacuate. Obviously, a lot of people who should have evacuated didn’t for a variety of different reasons. In retrospect, the vast majority of lives lost in New Orleans could have been avoided for no other reason than evacuating. There would have still been billions in property damage, but the death toll would have been much, much smaller.
With all that said, had the bridge or the levee been adequately maintained to begin with, there’s a good chance we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now as it pertains to New Orleans. It has been well established that government inspections of both had shown them in dangerous need of repair. But decisions were made to allocate tax dollars elsewhere rather than make the recommended improvements.
I was in Houston watching the news coverage of the storm when I heard an “on the scene” news person make a statement to the effect that the Mississippi gulf coast had taken the brunt of the storm and “it appears New Orleans has dodged another bullet” compared to what was originally forecasted. Shortly thereafter, the levee broke and we all know what happened afterward. It’s a fact that both the bridge collapse and the levee breach were also forseeable and could probably have been avoided altogether.
I don't think out-of-towners realize the impact of Katrina. So, I don't take particular offense.
We have to admit that it put New Orleans prominently back on the map (via almost wiping it off). “Those” people just naturally put the two together.
The image speaks for itself: The outside of the hurricane blows and the center of it sucks!!!!!!
Now, having said that, let’s shove a few storm shutters up the Vikings butts and splinter their will to survive!!!!

Although I’m way on record as not liking Farve, it’s a personal thing. Difficult to not respect the majority of Viking fans that have been on our site this week.
God help us if we have to hear from Jet’s fans for the next two weeks.
We could always point to the fact that we already beat them once!
That might calm them down some, or more likely just inflame them even more…

You think you know, and you don't know, and you never, ever will.-Jim Mora Sr.
Wow
So the response is to take an easy and somehow acceptable shot at the I-35 Bridge Collapse.. not because you mean it but because you want to show us what it would be like?
Yeah okay, that makes it right.. And then follow it up by belittling the 13 lives lost because an interstate collapsed…
And to even post this as if it’s an indictment on the fans of Minnesota, when it was one idiot who ARGUABLY COULD HAVE BEEN A SAINTS FAN.. trust me.. it’s a very possible reality.. just to fire up your morale for winning and gaining the moral high ground.
It’s disgusting.
Please note my comment above...
Change that to “Vikings fans have been the best group I’ve seen all year except for Secondeye”.
You’re disgusting.
Cough, ban, cough.
Brees gonna throw down the Saints... Wide open Devery Henderson! Nobody's within twenty yards of him! He could do the backstroke into the end zone from there! And he'll take it in for a seventy-five yard touchdown strike!

To quote Jerry Seinfeld...
“It doesn’t offend me as a jew. It offends me as a comedian!”
The worst thing about the pic (or the millions of others just like it from the opponents of all Louisiana-based sports teams since Aug 2005) is that it’s just not the least bit funny, or clever, or original, or smart, or amusing.
Offensive? Meh. It’s too lame to be offensive. We’ve all seen this same “joke” done over and over and over and over and over. It’s far too easy. A monkey could “think of it.” It requires absolutely zero intelligence, sense of humor or creativity.
I think (hope) that all but the most pearl-clutching of oversensitive, maudlin drama queens are long past genuinely getting their feelings hurt by things as banal and trivial as this. Which isn’t to say that it’s not “classless” or whatever. Clearly it is, but so what?
The problem, in my opinion, isn’t that it’s classless. It’s that it’s just so very stupid and unfunny.

Wow.
That is the most pathetic, tacky, poor taste I have ever seen. If I didn’t hate the Vikings before, I do now.
Saintsational has stated that he doesn’t know where the image came from. It was a viral image that showed up in his email.
You have no idea if this image came from a Viking fan or not. More likely it’s some idiot just seeking attention and this is exactly what they are looking for.
Here is what Saintsational posted on the DN response to this post…
This was sent to me as a forwarded email from a Saints fan friend as if to say, "Can you believe this?" A viral thing. It was not sent to me directly from any Viking fan or anyone having to do with SB Nation whatsoever.

You guys have no clue if a Vikings fan even did this but you are treating it as such.
There is garbage like this all over the internet. How is this main page news?
This is a "football blog," right?
And since the Saints and Vikings ARE playing each other, THIS becomes, ahem, “main page news.”
"Gowin on fourth and 14 will punt it away. He hangs it very high, angling it for the near sideline...HAKIM DROPS THE BALL!!! HAKIM DROPS THE BALL!! Brian Milne might've fallen on it at the ten yard line! It's the New Orleans Saints' football! Brian Milne, the most unlikely hero of them all, falls on the fumble, the muff by Hakim! There is a God after all!" -- Jim Henderson

Wow, you are probably right
this was done by a Cowboys fan.
But no! Not even the self-proclaimed most obnoxious fans in the NFL for the Cowboys did this. Is there a way for the Vikings logo to end up triumphantly mocking babies at a Haitian refugee camp too? This was really next level.
Secondeye, I think I can help you through this. Now, listen carefully ~

"Don't ever sell your saddle, cause life's a long, long ride."
come on, dont blame the team or fans for something a kid probably made in his highschool class
this is garbage, classless, but come on. you cant blame the team for this. i see people are using this as some kind of motivation for tomorrow?! well here is your motivation saints fans. the best two teams in football are meeting, we knew we were gonna see the saints at about week 5 in the nfc championship game unless some kind of miracle happen and it didnt so this is what we knew would happen. finally its here, and ill be honest. i watched a lot of saints games this year and as a team, the VIKINGS are better. all over the field the VIKINGS ARE STRONG and dont expect 2 punt returns from reggie bush to make it a game this time because its not happening. this game is to be won by the vikings or lost by the vikings. the vikings have to play bad tom, sorry today for the saints to win. THE VIKINGS ARE BETTER. ohh and another reason that picture is CLASSLESS is BRETT FAVRE’S immediate family was effected by KATRINA as well . SKOL VIKINGS

First post on CNC
Good luck today gentlemen. I thought the picture was totally classless and it does’t represent the great people from the state of Minnesota or the Vikings fan base. I’ve been a Vikes fan my entire life and I was in the gulf region during Katrina so I know what you went through as does most of the nation.
"Skol Vikings! Let's win this game Skol Vikings!
