kicked out?

I really think that John Carney and Garrett Hartley should practice their kicks on the sideline during games by kicking each other in the head.  Heck, maybe even have Scott Fajita come back just to hold the "Fat Punk Kicker" while Carney tees off.

Star-divide

OK maybe it's not that bad but I wouldn't be mad at all if the Saints wouldn't attempt a field goal unless it's to tie or for a game winner.  Even if it's 4th and goal from the 30, go for the TD and either score, get a penalty, or gain yards on the play before turning it over on downs.  I hate field goals, if/when you miss then the other team gets the ball from where it's kicked.  Why not go for a 1st down or TD that way you push them back for the turnover or even have them intercept it deep on your side of the field where they would have to go that much farther to score.  If you cross the 50 then you should always go for it.  Especially for the chip shots that have suddenly become not so easy money for Saints kickers...  Extra points?  screw em.  Go for 2 every time they score and hopefully you get at least 50% of them.  They should only go for the "sure" extra point at the end of the game for a tie or win...

I'm no "rocket surgeon"

but I’d say J Rock, if that is his real name, is a bit displeased with the kicking game.

But he has point CC… it beggars belief that we cant find a kicker that makes a 30 yarder. Carney is not the answer – he should be a consultant/mentor if they think Hartley is the long term solution otherwise fire them both

I agree. If we’re going to miss FGs, we might as well miss them with Hartley. It’s not mechanics, it’s mental. I can only hope he’s given another shot at winning his job back, which I didn’t think he’d get until Carney’s miss on Sunday. But what do I know? I’m just another couyon with an opinion. This place is full of ’em. (winkie face).

he should be a consultant/mentor

Why? So he can teach Hartley how to miss kicks? Oh wait, Hartley already does that well.

It appears Carney is doing worse than he really is because of Hartley's early season history.

After all, Carney only missed one. He should have made it for sure, but every kicker misses one once in a while. Now if Carney misses another one within his range pretty soon, then that’s one thing. But, he could easily make the next 15-20 field goals so let’s not rush to judgement.

J Rock, please keep your Sunday job. You certainly have no place in coaching.

Even if it’s 4th and goal from the 30, go for the TD and either score, get a penalty, or gain yards on the play before turning it over on downs.

Here’s another way of phrasing that. Either score or leave three points off the board each drive and ultimately lose the game because of it. Would the Jets have won last night, had they employed your sterling logic against the Vikings’ stout defense? Surely Nick Folk’s contributions didn’t play into that W.

Why not go for a 1st down or TD that way you push them back for the turnover or even have them intercept it deep on your side of the field where they would have to go that much farther to score.

Unless they have a clear path to the end zone, DBs are typically instructed to bat passes to the ground on 4th down. Why would they intercept, when they can break up the pass and take over at the line of scrimmage?

Extra points? screw em. Go for 2 every time they score and hopefully you get at least 50% of them.

Ah, yes. “Hope” is something that should factor into every game plan. I suppose NBA coaches should grow some balls, and instruct their players to take three point shots every time down the court. Heck, all they have to do is “hope” that they make 67% of them to guarantee that they come out ahead. “We just won the opening tip off. Cross your fingers, gentlemen.” Too bad Jerry Tarkanian never thought of that. He could have upped his scoring exponentially and saved a fortune on towels in the process.

They should only go for the “sure” extra point at the end of the game for a tie or win.

Are PATs somehow worth more in the final seconds of a game? If a game is close enough for a PAT to tie or win it, odds are you’d be kneeling the ball (a “surer” thing) to clinch the win, had you not bypassed on FGs and PATs over the course of the 59+ minutes of play prior.

I made a comment about the Jets using their kicker to put points up last night and it seemed to not be well received. Those 15 points in kicking points is what really won the game in my eyes.

yeah, the kicking game is more important than many people seem to believe… especially when you don’t have an offense like we have had the last few years.

I think having those points up on the board would at least prevent the team from giving up later in the game, right?

lmao

I think I really would be the worst coach ever. But yes I’ll take your advice and stay in production lol. But I do have to say that if the Jets had our kicker/s, they would’ve missed at least 3 of those 20 yarders then Favre would’ve won the game in OT. I was only exaggerating my point of wishing they would go for it on 4th down more often, not REALLY 100% of the time… But hey there were more votes against kicking/kickers than for. just saying.

by J Rock on Oct 13, 2010 12:23 AM CDT up reply actions

Most of us knew you were being facetious and were just fed up with the whole issue.

But, you’d probably make a better coach than me. I’d have the team, not only going for it on 4th down, but running ALL flea flickers! All day long flea flickers, all the time, every play! That’s how I roll.

yeah

or even the double reverse ala the Tampa Bay game a couple years ago. I would rather see an attempt of another one of those moronic plays than to watch another rediculously close missed chip shot…

by J Rock on Oct 14, 2010 8:53 AM CDT up reply actions

If our playcalling was better and I felt confident that would could pickup first-downs on 4th down, I’d say go for it… but, alas… It isn’t and I’m not.
