Rethinking Expectations

Damn.

That was FUGLY.

It's taken me 2 days to even log in to CSC after that pitiful loss to the Cardinals. I don't have the words to express my disgust. It's basically a feeling I haven't felt since the Aaron Brooks days: direct shot to the man-pouch.

The Cards beat us by ten and didn't even score an offensive touchdown. WTF? (and could someone explain to me the Holy Roller Rule? I didn't think Levi brown could advance a fumble? Not that it mattered.)

Party's over. We have no running game. Clearly, Betts and Ivory were unemployed or undrafted for a reason. Without a threat of running, teams are taking away the big pass play. I'm hopeful PT and Reggie will help turn this around when they return, but I'm not holding my breath. The O-line is playing well below thier ability. We have no pass rush. Brees is pressing. The list goes on.

It's been a long time since I've watched games not expecting the Saints to win. I'm definitely at that point now. I'm not saying we need to panic-- at least the rest of the NFC sucks too. But it is certainly time to reevaluate our expectations. At this point, top seeds and homefield advantages are out. But, I think we can stumble our way through the regular season and make the playoffs as well as any other mediocre NFC team. If we can just get in the post-season, I'm hopeful we can put together a run. We've got the talent, but for whatever reason, we just haven't put it to good use.

See poll after the jump. Discuss.
